Summary Legacy Academy is the premier destination for the legacies and descendants of the world's gods. All who attend are taught to master their abilities and embrace their heritage. Attendance at this fine establishment is coveted by many, but not newcomer Lena Basil.
Blindsided by her parents' impromptu relocation, Lena finds herself immersed in an environment more foreign than she's capable of comprehending.
Powerless and defenseless, in more ways than one, Lena is forced to find her place amongst freak mishaps, magical cohorts, entitled deities, and the worst of them all... herself.
The feisty, young female lead is thrown suddenly into a world of magic and secrets. Her palpable mistrust and confusion ring lour throughout the prolific writing, as she is thrust into one adventure after another. I enjoyed the read immensely and am really looking forward to the next volume, where I’m sure she will grow into her own.
Amazing book. It was one of those special books that once you pick it up, you never want to put it down. I wanted to read this like I need to breathe air. It quickly became a comfort book, and I think everyone who loved going on journeys with Percy Jackson or Jacob Portman, you will fall in love with this book. It never felt like reading, it felt more like I was hitting play on my favorite TV show.
I was gifted a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
My rating: 3.5 stars Magdalena Basil isn't happy with her parent's decision to move to Astoria where she will start at Legacy Academy. Lena doesn't know it, but Legacy Academy is special, it is a school for the descendants of Gods or those chosen by the Gods, their legacies. Lena is stunned to learn all of this, because she is just a normal girl....right? Lena soon finds a group of friends she becomes immediately close to. Lena and her friends must work together to save Legacy Academy from unknown forces that threaten to destroy everything they know and everything that Lena is quickly learning that she wants to keep safe.
I enjoyed this book, I am a sucker for any kind of fantasy novel and if that fantasy novel just happens to be YA then I am sold! I liked the relationships that Lena developed with her group of new friends and the relationship she shared with her parents even became stronger and grew deeper (something that anyone with teenagers knows doesn't usually happen often) throughout all of her struggles at Legacy Academy. I also really enjoyed the fact that the author included a non binary character, that is the first time that I remember having read a book where he/she wasn't the only thing used.
There were a few instances where I did get confused while reading, thinking that I had missed some important information because I had lost a sense of what was going on and I thought that maybe I was just unable to focus, so I would go back through to search, but the information was just not there, and it felt a bit like reading a different book in those instances. I think the author has the potential to create an even better story if they chose to continue Lena's adventures, I will be patiently waiting for book 2 of Legacy Academy! And in the mean time, I recommend that you give Legacy Academy a try!
Book Reviewer Stars: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Book: Legacy Academy Author: A.P.Goodman
What a great book! I read it in 2 evenings. Looking forward to book number two 😃
You really get sucked in to the world of Lena and how she finds out who and what she is. Her whole life she thinks she’s just a normal girl who doesn’t fit in at school. Now at 14 she needs to move to a new town Astoria and a new home. Only to end up at a school for descendants of the gods! How will she fit in? What will she do when everything she thought she knew was not that at all. I really likes the friendships she creates and the bond with her parents but also the struggles she faces in the friendships at Highschool. It ends with a great cliffhanger.
If you enjoy a good action, fantasy, YA book then this is definitely the book for you! The story is flowing and has me laugh out loud at times. Really good job done by A.P.Goodman and a great start as a Author ✍️
I was gifted this book by the author in exchange for an honest review. Legacy academy, in the town of Astoria is a school for descendants of gods or those chosen by gods. Lena and her family move to town and she quickly learns this fact. She is not normal like she thought she was. Everyone in the school has some kind of powers including her family (previously unaware to her). Lena must work hard to learn about herself, her powers, her parents part in this, and how to fit into this new place. Finding her place even with new friends is difficult as many trials are thrown her way. I enjoyed the story line, it was very interesting in itself. The book was fast paced and plenty of action. Plenty of knowledge given to the reader without feeling like it was forced. The bonds created between characters was beautiful. I give 4 starts and not 5 because I felt parts were too rushed, not descriptive enough. It became a little confusing as they jumped around scenes very quickly without enough of the description as to what changed or the description given was dismissed quickly. Some of the holes made me have to reread whole paragraphs searching for information I may have missed (I didn't miss the information, it wasn't there). Some other questions I did have but I won't include because of spoilers. There may have been inconsistencies but over all I enjoyed this book very much. I suggest it to anyone that likes a quick, fun fantasy YA novel that does leave you with some interesting cliffhangers. If there is a book 2 for Legacy Academy I definitely look forward to reading it!

A book about a school for descendants of the Gods you say? Well, count me in, lol!
Lena Basil (our MC) has just moved to Astoria with her family. She is quickly given a tour of the city and realizes something isn't quite right. Upon her enrollment in Legacy Academy, it doesn't take long for Lena to confirm her suspicions. Something is definitely wrong here! Lena quickly finds that her classmates range from Oracles to Ghouls and everything in between. She has been blindly accepted into a school of magic for the descendants of the Gods.
Poor Lena must work twice as hard to discover her powers, build friendships, and uncover the truth of her legacy. She must decide in trusting her gut or conforming to the social norms of her newfound school. Will she find her place amongst her peers or be an outcast forever?
Things I really liked about Legacy Academy:
▪️Fast-paced storyline ▪️Lots of good dialog ▪️The name of the town ▪️The strong bond between Lena and her parents
If you're looking for an action-packed fantasy YA story, check out Legacy Academy!
Ok, so the author is a friend of mine so take this review as you will.
In the beginning things were moving so fast I had to either take notes, ask the author, or back read to see what I had missed. I actually put down the book for a few weeks b/c I just felt so lost. There is a 3rd person narrative but it all comes from the pov of Lena. Which might have been where my confusion was. I see the narrator as a fly on her shoulder and that threw me for a loop I guess.
As the book progressed I got more and more sucked in. Scenes seemed to flow together without much issues, the last few chapters sped by! Gave me animoprhs meet mythogy vibes. I will say that there are a LOT of characters to keep track of. I know a lot of series take a good chunk of time to develop characters and etc, so I'm really excited to see where the next two go w/out having to trudge through the backstory parts.

I love a good YA book and Legacy Academy hit the spot! A high school with descendants of Gods? It's definitely my kind of book. I started reading and couldn't put the book down. I recommend reading this book. It's so worth it!
I loved the characters, their personalities, and their humor. I knew it was going to be a great book when I was on page 2 and read how Lena felt their new house was old and abandoned and looked like it had been way back from the early 2000s. As someone who grew up in the 90s/early 2000s, I found this humorous.
The suspense, love, mystery, magic, all contributed to making this book a great read. I can't wait for book 2 to come out to read more on Lena's life and relationships.
When I read the synopsis, I was really excited for the concept of a god like school. Sadly, the execution fell short. The reading experience was jarring as we jumped from one plot point to the next and I constantly kept feeling like I was missing half the story. Lena goes from meeting Selene/Diablo to being in love and knowing everything about him in 2 pages.
The bones of a great YA adventure story, in the vein of Percy Jackson or similar, are here, but I found the pacing to be way too fast. Plot points, the romance, the genre shift from magical school to rescue/rehab for the gods, theological statements about major world religions, and character development all flit by with little emotional weight. That being said, a reader looking for a quick jaunt with some fun characters might find a lot to like.
I love the premise of this story- a school for those touched by gods… the characters all have unique talents, but I felt a little out of the loop. There is a back story there that I feel would help with the character development of this book. The action was fast paced and kept me guessing. I’m interested to see how the story develops further!
I loved it. I wouldn't go to bed until I finished the book. The characters and interpersonal relationship's really draw you in, and I can't wait for the next one!
Lena has been uprooted from her home and taken to live in Astoria where she finds herself attending the Legacy Academy. Before long, she finds that her peers are special—gifted, even—and that the attendants of Legacy Academy are either legacies or descendants of gods. In finding her place there, Lena learns about friendship, about family, and most importantly, about believing in herself.
I really enjoyed this story! I am a sucker for character-driven stories, and I found the protagonist and all of the side characters really likable and interesting. I did find myself wanting a little bit more when it came to the gods and some of the characters’ back stories, but this is only because I found it all so interesting! I couldn’t put it down. I definitely recommend—to readers of YA and otherwise! I can’t wait to read more by A.P. Goodman!
