Rehoming a mermaid caught in an oil slick? No problem. Getting a girl out of a devilish deal with a social media sprite? Easy-peasy.
But when every troll in the city is suddenly made homeless, fairy tale expert Dr Epiphany Alexander faces a task like no other.
Can she keep the trolls and the public at a safe distance from each other? Can she fend off the advances of elderly gents who find her strangely irresistible? Most importantly, can she do any of these things without falling foul of the enchantments, tricks and traps that are part of any encounter with the folks of faerie?
The trolls have been evicted from the bridges and Epiphany has taken them in. They are helping around the property. But there are too many. She finds a job for all 25 at a bowling 🎳 alley . A cute story with fairies, trolls, and pixies. I would recommend this novella and authors too readers looking for a quick read. Quite an interesting time spent with Dr. Epiphany Alexander as she proves she is a master of folklore research and the dealing with assorted beings from that realm. She is an advocate of treating all creatures, human or not, with compassionate intelligent understanding. Discovering someone needing her help in finding the source of garden destruction and culprits, a set of bridge trolls is discovered: why they appeared, the bargains she must strike with the pixies in her yard, and the help from a fairy godmother, bring her resourcefulness within failure and loss of professional reputation. Any tales about what kind of creatures live in that other world, how they live, and what they think will change more than on fairytale you heard in your youth. As usual these two authors have teased the humor, ridiculousness, and eye-googling thoughts from the pits of maturity and set your inner self free! I felt years younger upon reading this book and will go back for more.
Expert in all things "fairy tale" Epiphany Alexander has a huge dilemma all the trolls in the city are made homeless. She is tasked with finding them a new home. But the trolls are destroying homes and gardens and liable to eat pets and locals. Add to this Epiphany has to fend off the peristent attempts of two elderly gentleman who are attracted by her charms. All while walking the fine line between fairy enchantments and tricks. Can she possibly stay out of their traps AND rehome the city's troll population? A fun novella size story in the Sprite brigade series. A decent read but not half as good as Candy canes and buckets of blood.
More a novella than a novel but showing all the usual Goody & Grant features. A world is created just a little outside ours but with set rules. In this case the world of faery co-exists with the world of humans, though communication between the two is possible. The tale showcases the G & G humour to good effect too. My only quibble is that it is too short. I don't think there are any other Sprite Brigade volumes, which is a pity as Epiphany is a likeable and interesting character of whom I'd have liked to know more.
I have enjoyed every single book by Heide Goody and Iain Grant that I have read and all have made me laugh. This one was no different. The trolls are funny and Dr Alexander has possibly one of the most interesting jobs in the world! But no better, or cleverer, woman for it.
I really enjoyed this book. I grew up in Sheffield didn't move away till 1992 when I moved to Germany. The book was funny, some places in the book were familiar to me. I just wish it was a bit linger
Brilliant as normal, well as normal as you can get with these two authors. A hilarious and extremely witty little tomb this is, with fairies and trolls what could possibly go wrong. Oh and you will pee yourself when you are the brilliant book puns scattered throughout. So click buy and get fresh underwear!
