Pulse: City of Angels

Rate this book
My name is Eve. I'm your average twenty-five-year-old living in Los Angeles. By average, I mean an angel-demon hybrid who is wanted by her father, Lucifer. As it turns out, my dormant powers can do some serious damage to humanity. Lucifer wants nothing more than to force me to do just that. To make matters worse, he has stuck his own private and utterly annoying demon babysitter on me.

All I wanted was to kick ass at my new job, party with my friends, and bang my insanely hot vampire boyfriend non-stop.

But no.

My blood is the key to a downright nasty apocalypse, and this is putting a giant monkey wrench in all of my plans. So what do you do when your father, who happens to be the devil, wants to use you to unleash chaos on earth?

You run. Right?

Trigger Warnings: mentions of rape, love triangle situations, violence, graphic and sexual content. Please read at your discretion.

NOTE: This is NOT a standalone. This is the second book in a four book series, so it is recommended that you read Pulse before Pulse: City of Angels.

Pulse : City of Angels by Andrea Lee is the second book in the series which I found much better than first book. As the story on Eve's life develop more on this book , plus the added element just keeps you hooked.
The last book ends on a cliffhanger , where Eve confronts Lucifer also her father , she finds herself making a deal with him in this book, that she would go to Hell after 3months as she needs time to part her Human life , her friends and Will. Meanwhile , she works with Will to formulate a plan so that she doesn't have to go to Hell. But destiny has something else written for Eve.
In this book , I don't know why I didn't like the character Will as much as I did in the first book, rather there is a new character development Jarek , the demon who is supposed to keep an eye on Eve ,untill she returns to Hell. He is funny , sarcastic and intimidating in his own way. I secretly kind of wish Eve and Jarek end up together .🤞😋
As for the story , I'm eagerly waiting for the third book 📖 , very much intrigued on the thought of war between Hell and Heaven. And how Eve plays an role in it . Does she get back her power ? Does she end up with Will ? Although I miss Sage and Colton's bonding with Eve .. I would want the author to keep some of there roles bit more in the next book. 😁😁

After reading books 1 & 2 back to back, I find myself psyched to read the third book and then realized I would have to wait at least six months before 2024. :(

We return to see how Eve is doing and that there are problems with Will and the vamps he runs with. We find out about more of Eve’s past and what happened when she was little. It is really sad, but it is what made her the person that she is today. Everything happens for a reason. But now there are slayers after her and there is a demon who is her protector, as she made a deal with her daddy. So much goes on in the first two books, so be sure to read book 1 first or you will be totally lost.

She is spending more and more time away from her friends. They are feeling left out and are getting mad at her, which is just sad, because she is trying to protect them from stuff that would make their heads explode metaphorically speaking. So many different types of supernaturals are in this book! I really enjoyed it and can’t wait for the next one. However, I am livid at what Will tries to pull. I also have a love/hate on for Jarek, the demon who is Eve’s bodyguard. It’s true- he never lies to Eve. I think mostly because if she or her dad catches him, he would literally be toast. Lol. I find him to be annoying and yet hysterically funny. Also, he changes a lot in the book and I’m impressed. He is a hottie too. Lol. His phone number alone had me laughing so hard I almost fell out of bed. ^_^

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

So this book picked up right where the first book left off. We are thrown right back into Eve trying to navigate her life as an angel/demon/human hybrid.

Now I was Team Will the first book. Thought they were so amazing together. But then he goes and pulls that bullcrap?! Like no 🛑. He has some serious groveling to do in the next book and I hope Eve makes him work for it.

At least Jarek was honest from the get go! He owns up to his demon tendencies. He’s only not saying what he’s not allowed to unlike Will just being selfish.

That cliffhanger though 🙃

Thank you Andrea for the arc; this is my honest review

FIVE STARS ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Poor Eve goes through so much in this book. She’s such a strong heroin and I love her so much for that. I can’t wait to see how far she’s comes in book 3. Where do I start with Will… This book made me question my love for him a couple times. But I understand where he was coming from with everything that he did. Will always has Eve’s best interest at heart so try and keep that in your thoughts when you read. I still love him and he is still my number one vamp book boyfriend. I really loved Jarek! His dark sarcasm and humor are everything! I laughed so much in this book and also cried a few times.

I received this as an advanced reader copy from the author and this is my honest review.

I LOVED this book. I liked it better than the first. The line formatting is much better and the overall plot kept me interested.

My only complaint is that Wills character royally pissed me off. I hope he figures it out in the next book. I love Jarek and thought he was hilarious but I will always be Team Will.

Can't wait for the third book!

I recieved this book as an ARC reader and this is my honest review.

I really enjoyed this book. I am not sure if I like it more than the first, but its definitely a close call.

It has everything in it that makes for a good paranormal book: vampires, demons, angels, werewolves....

I LOVE Jarek. I still prefer Will for Eve but Jarek was so funny. Very much looking forward to seeing how Eve handles herself in hell.

I would like to first thank the author for providing me with an ARC of the book in exchange for an honest review.

This one was my favorite of the two in the series so far. I feel like the world building was stronger and the writing has most definitely improved. When I was reading, the flow was just better overall and I was really able to delve into the story .

I really like Eve in this book because I feel like we see more character development. The poor girl has been through so much in such a short amount of time and not to mention that she has escaped death on numerous occasions. I would have literally lost my mind if I were her. I really appreciate seeing her begin to stick up for herself more and gradually gain her footing in this new world.

I was quite shocked at first to see that the romance will turn into a reverse harem, but I now see that it makes sense in the grander scheme of things. This being said. Will disappointed me because you think he would have learned his lesson from the last book, but I also understand that it was all coming from a good place. He is incredibly possessive of Eve so I don't know how this RH will develop, but all we can do is wait and have faith in the author. Jarek was not likable at all in the beginning lol. I wanted to punch him a couple of times in the throat especially when he would call Eve a b**ch. But you know what, considering that he is a demon and now knowing his history, it all makes sense. He kinda grew on me towards the end because of the nickname peaches to be completely honest. I am quite the sucker for cute nicknames and he has always been nothing but honest about what his nature is. I am excited to see his development and how he will continue to soften towards our FMC. The tension between Eve and Jarek was very good and their dynamic was quite funny . I wonder if we will only have Jarek and Will in this harem or if there will be more individuals later on. Reverse harems are personally not my cup of tea and I have only read like 2 others, but my mind might have been changed :). The tension by the 3 aforementioned characters is almost palpable and so I can't wait to see how it progresses.

I think this apocalyptic war between Heaven and Hell is fascinating and it really brings into question moral boundaries and social conventions. I love discussions in regard to morality and what lines people are/aren't willing to cross. I feel like the introduction of this topic more thoroughly into the story is what got me really excited for the next book. I cannot wait to see how Eve continues to change and adapt. I especially, am anxious to see how exactly she will bring balance and peace to the realms.

Overall I can say that I did have a good time. I really hope to see more badass moments from Eve in the next book and I already envision her sitting on a throne. I would definitely recommend this to fans of reverse harems, paranormal romance, and those who enjoy exploring the lines of morality in books. This story has great potential and I can't wait to see what the author will do with it.

Eve is your average 25 year old living in LA. If average means being an angel-demon hybrid who is wanted by her father, Lucifer. As it turns out, her dormant powers can do some serious damage to humanity. Lucifer wants nothing more than to force her to do just that. So I really enjoyed the first book in this series and thought it had an awesome reveal at the end that made me want to keep reading the series. I have to admit I was a little disappointed in this one. It picked up exactly where the last book ended which was nice, but I don't know this one was a huge disconnect for me. All of the characters seemed like the worst most needy and childish versions of themselves. We are given more factions of supernatural beings, without much explaining of them or their purpose. I have never disliked a character as much as I did Will in this book; he was overly possessive and it wasn't an attractive look on him.
Eve was very needy and ignoring all the red flags in her relationship in this book, which I have to admit made me lose some respect for her as a character. Also this is labeled as a reverse harem, but it is in fact most assuredly not that. All this aside, I think that Eve's story is interesting and I am curious to see where exactly the author takes this. I will be reading the next book in the series because I think the series has some serious potential.

BOOK:-PULSE CITY OF ANGELS BY ANDREA LEE.
BOOK REVIEWER-OKOKO AYEZU TAMARAPREYE.
SYNOPSIS
A fictional prose story about the many tricks of the devil. The story discusses the handsome devil and his sending his demon minions to do his dirty work;the blame passing by humans as seen of Will passing the blame to Eve; Lucifer infiltration of humans as he infiltrated Eves inner circle through one of her humans; the shortcomings of men and the devil ;ever changing behaviours of men and hurting loved ones contrary to our nature;man's nature of being both Angel and demon in certain cases and willing to sacrifice themselves for the betterment of mankind like Will;making decisions we are not proud of;the devil's ploy and hope to make those that live right join him as we see Will's thoughts concerning Eve and Lucifer;the devil's attack on the fallen and righteous;fall from human to pure demons;mind violation; temptations and conscience prodding to desist from them;fear of pissing off the devil instead of otherwise;humans with concern for humanity as bridge between heaven and hell and agents to restore balance in heaven; All humans having a ratio of good and evil in them and the ease of the monster taking over;female genital mutilation;succession in family business and the need for a balance; amongst others. It raises questions whether one who cannot not beat the temptation to be a devil had to better join the devil and whether we should expect compassion from demons or his incarnates in human form.

I hope to read Pulse 111 : Descension ,when it's out in 2024

I got sucked right into this book because I was anxious to see where the story picked up from the first book, and what was going to happen.

As a character, Eve has been handling her unique situation exceptionally well; in the same situation I would have had a nervous breakdown about a hundred times over by now! Once again, there’s a lot going on— Eve’s trying to get into the swing of having a hot vampire boyfriend while trying to move up in her career, stay alive while being hunted for some reason by Slayers, learn to control her growing wings so that they don’t pop out at inopportune moments, and - oh yeah- deal with 24/7 handsome and annoying demon babysitter Jarek.

I like the introduction of Jarek into the mix. I found him devilishly ( no pun intended) enjoyable! His comic relief was much appreciated. I also like the slow burn of awareness/ attraction between Jarek and Eve. Supernatural politics can be so heavy sometimes but I enjoy the chess-like moves between entities — vampires, werewolves, Lucifer and his demons, the Slayers, the Order, the Commission. There’s a big showdown coming, and I can’t wait to see how all of the pieces come together, what Eve will do now that she’s prematurely housed you-know-where, and where this is all going to leave Eve, Will, Jarek, and all of Eve’s human friends when it happens.

N.B. I received a free ARC of this book, but I’m leaving my review voluntarily.

This world in this series just gets better with each book. I was a big fan of the first one but this dives us deeper into what's to come and the unexpected leaves me in aw. Not very often do we get to see Angels and Demons mixed with Vampires and Werewolves but I am here for every bit of it. The two worlds combined just draws me in instantly and I get lost in the world. (A good lost!) Eve is smacked with so much this book and the woman just keeps pushing no matter what.

Eve is such a strong MC. After everything is constantly blowing up in her face she continues to push her way to what needs to be done. The decisions she has to make in the book keeps me on my toes and curious as to what is going to be thrown at her next. Will...I loved him in the first book and I really want to keep loving him for her but this book makes it hard to get a good read on him. I want to say I understand why he does certain things but there's a part of me that thinks what if. I'm hoping book 3 will make me love him again. Jarek is odd....he's one of those characters that you love to hate one moment then you hate to love him the next.

Loved this follow-up book!

I am loving this series so hard! The series continues with Eve, now knowing that she’s the daughter of LUCIFER, and he wants her to take over for him in Hell. She makes a deal with him for 3 months to say her goodbyes while secretly looking for a way out of it. He sends one of his lackey’s, Jarek, to keep an eye on her. Jarek initially drives her INSANE since he always knows what she is up to and hinders her from doing what she needs to be doing. She and Will get into a huge fight when truths are discovered about what he was going to do, albeit unwillingly. When Will has to travel to find information on what is going on, it drives a larger wedge in their relationship when she believes he’s back with his ex, Edith. After she is nearly killed by another group trying to kill her, Jarek has to take her to hell, and she finds out what is REALLY going on… and it's worse than she thought. But is Lucifer being honest with her? Or is he really the father of lies?

OMG, I can't wait until the next book comes out so I can find out with Eve, Will, Jarek, and everyone else!

Note: This is the second book in the series and cannot be read as a standalone.

This was an enjoyable read! This book contains really heavy elements such as talk of the world ending (as does the first), but in contrast, is not too heavy a book to read.

The feel behind this series is somewhat reminiscent of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the 90's version) and likewise contains a myriad of creatures that are more than they appear.

The story has a lot of banter and action, and was a fun read. It picks up from the first book, so the great characters of book 1 are in this instalment (save for one) and some new characters for a fun twist!

there is plenty of development in the character relationships and a lot of mysteries are revealed, while others are brewing!

This was an exciting book and the next one is certainly highly anticipated!

I was fortunate enough to receive a copy of this book from booksirens and voluntarily leave this honest review.

The book picks up where it left off with Lucifer revealing himself as Eve’s best friends boyfriend. This creates a chain of events to occur that will eventually cause Eve to either land up in Hell or stay on Earth.

Eve’s mission is to stay on Earth but finds her self constantly followed by a demon named Jarek. Eve’s vampire boyfriend, Will, is trying to make sure that she stays on Earth while the demon, Jarek, is there to make sure she gets to Hell.

The dynamic between Eve, Will and Jarek brings a lot of tension to the pages of the book. You are always questioning who Eve can trust. The tension in the book only builds as Eve struggles to figure out how to get out of the clutches of Hell as well as her mixed feelings toward Jarek.

I am really enjoying this series and can’t wait for the next one.

I thank Author Andrea Lee and @katieandbreypa for an ARC and I am voluntarily leaving a review. So before I start I would say that it would be beneficial to read "Pulse,Book 1" first. This book will be easy to get into regardless but it would be great to have the back story. I enjoyed this book a lot and am fully invested in where things go from here. Eve is thrust into a world of demons, vampires and other creatures but she is oddly not too afraid of them. It probably has to do with the fact that Eve is a hybrid of angel and demon. A vampire, werewolf and underworld bodyguard are all in love with her so there's that...Her father wants her to become the new boss so he can step down. Any guesses as to boss of what? I don't want to spoil it for anyone. Suffice it to say that if you love supernatural stories with spice and action,go get this book! I honestly can't wait for part 3!

The story continues. Eve, struggles with her feelings. She is no longer safe anywhere. The Lux, the Commissions and the Order want her dead. Who should believe them? Her father, Lucifer, or her sweetheart Will. And now there is someone who tells her everything, but not the whole truth. Jarek. A demon that Eve finds attractive. He is her protector, bodyguard and ultimately her kidnapper. Eve has nowhere left to go. Her love with Will may or may not be over. And now Eve is with her father, Lucifer. Eve, is in hell. Oh my goodness, I'm not getting enough sleep because I couldn't put this book down. Just had to read it. And everyone, friend and foe, is now holding their breath. What will Eve become? An Angel to do something good or is she the substitute for her father, Lucifer. My advice would be, buy these books, take a few days off and read. Highly recommended.

I had a fun with this read. I was able to just sit back and enjoy the ride.

Andrea Lee wrote fun characters Eve (FMC) is funny, sarcastic, vulnerable, yet resilient with her hybrid magic. Will (MMC) is just a sexy vampire boyfriend, protective, and hopelessly in love with Eve. I dig their relationship! I Love Sage and Colton and their side character energy!

The conflict was clear and honestly I wanted to know how Eve and her crew were gonna get out of the underlying predicament with the big bad.

The pop culture references and the element of comedy that Jarek added was a nice touch!

The story was perfectly paced and the love scenes were well done.

Overall, It was just plain entertaining. I’m sure books 3 and 4 will not disappoint.

I seriously loved this book!! I really liked the last one but this one I love even more!! I was hooked right away. I always enjoy stories and books like this. Angels, demons, vampires, werewolves.

My feelings for Will has been all over the place. But I’m still angry at him!! I don’t know if I would trust him if I was her.

I love Jarek! A demon who isn’t actually all that terrible. I think of him as morally grey. Yes he has done some terrible things and is a demon. But doesn’t seem like a horrible person though. I’m team Jarek!! 🥵🥵😏😏

I’m upset that it ended so soon!! I need the next book!! I need to know what’s going to happen next! Why did you have to end it like that???? 🥺🥺

This is Book 2 of the Pulse series. If you did not read Book 1, you will be lost. Book 1 ends on a cliffhanger, and Book 2 picks up right where it leaves off. This book has multiple POVs but mainly follows our FMC, Eve. It focuses on Eve trying to navigate everything she has found out about herself and where she comes from. We have werewolves, demons, vampires, and every supernatural creature in-between in this series, which keeps you reeled in. Note: This book also ends on a cliffhanger. This is a nice Paranormal Dark Romance series to get into.

🌶🌶🌶

After reading the first book I found it had some similarities to both 'The Vampire Diaries' and 'Twilight' in terms of the vampire lore. It seemed a bit simplistic. However, this book marked a significant improvement in terms of the writing, character development, and overall storytelling. The author did an excellent job of fleshing out the characters, expanding on the plot, and creating a richly detailed world filled with multiple mythical creatures. The protagonist, Eve, discovers that she is a Demon/ Angel hybrid and the daughter of Lucifer, tasked with restoring balance to the world. I'm ready to dive into the third book and see how the story continues to evolve.

I enjoyed this continuation of Eve's story. I'm eager to see how her decisions in this book affect the balance between Heaven and Hell, as well as on Earth. But why did Will have to go shady? My vampire man, I was rooting for you and now I've got feelings for a demon boy and ugh. Will is like the hero of the story; he would sacrifice Eve to save the world. Jarek is more of a villain, and I hope he will burn the world down to save her. I only hope that our girl survives the chaos and madness long enough to become a force to be reckoned with! 2024 can't come soon enough... I need answers!

I loved this just as much as the first book, poor Eve just goes through so much and no spoilers but seriously Will, seriously ! Jared grows on me more and more, I love his humour, so sarcastic. That ending though, I love and hate cliffhangers equally, I need to know what’s going to happen next, like yesterday, I can’t be left hanging! If you can’t tell I loved this and I will be reading the next as soon as I’m allowed the pleasure

This was a better read for me than the first one because it answered quite a bit of the questions I had in book 1. What was fun about reading this is all the suspense thrown in to make an entertaining book! I was glad to have this book at my disposal at once because cliffhangers aren’t really my favourite. So this gave me quite a satisfying end. The addition of new characters also made for a better storytelling.

Much like the first book, this one had me guessing, and I was rarely right. The ending wasn't quite what I expected, but left it in a way that I want to read the next book.

There was a good bit of action, though I feel like it was slower-paced than the first. I wonder what's going to happen in the next 2 books. If they are similar to this one, then the series could be condensed. Other than that it's definitely a good read.

I enjoyed this continuation of Eve’s story as she continues to find out more about who she really is and what she’s capable of. I will say that I liked Will much more in the first book so some of his character decisions/actions in this book were a letdown. It will be interested to see what happens with Eve and her relationships in the next book. I’m curious about where Lee is going.

I received an arc for my honest review.

so freakin good!

I really loved the character development Eve is going through as she continues to learn more about who/what she is and how that is going to affect her life. Watching a main character battle with their logic and feelings is so much fun!

Very excited to see what awaits these wonderful characters in the next book!
