Our world collides with a strange and unforgiving dimension in this two-part novel, the first in an all new science-fantasy horror series.
In Forestrunner, a woman awakens on a mysterious, alien world where humans are prey to grotesque monstrosities. Injured, mutated and mysteriously deprived of her memories, she will master an array of martial and psychic disciplines, find love among the natives, and rise to lead them under the guidance of their gods, an eldritch pantheon whose motives may go far beyond mere freedom for humanity.
Back on earth, Alignment follows the actions of a government operative who leaves a powerful grimoire in the hands of a cult. Bent on revenge against its leader, an estranged father abducts his autistic son, hoping to exploit the latent powers the boy has yet to discover. Years later, as those powers awaken, he will find himself in the midst of the Astral Alignment, an apocalyptic event that threatens to rip the very planet apart.
I won the 2nd book of this series in a Goodreads giveaway, but I hadn't read the first one, so I bought it because I didn't want to be lost. I really loved this book and I can't wait to read the one I won. I was kind of confused in the beginning, but I started getting things a little easier. There was quite the twist and turn in the 2nd part that I did not expect to happen. I've heard of the Federation of Light, heck, I got my usual email from them today talking about alignment and I started to laugh. Oh yeah, I can't wait to read the 2nd book. This was so good, and you got me hook, line, and sinker.
I enjoyed the book though in parts it is confusing. I had to read a lot of parts twice. Part 2 was a little easier and had a lot of good horror in it. In all I would recommend the book to sci-fi readers. I received this book free through Goodreads. A
A world is collided with another dimension. It’s unforgiving due to magic, aliens, horror, government intrigue, secret society’s. It is a two-part novel. The first part follows a women who awakens in an unfamiliar place and is unfamiliar to herself. She goes through trials of strength and mental ability to master. Through her journey in an alien world she finds love and strength and rebellion in the fight for humanity. The second part of the novel follows an ex government operative who has his sights set on revenge on revenge. He does the unthinkable and kidnaps his son who he plans to exploit once his powers come in. The boy is just a means to an end. The boys powers awaken many years later and it is not pleasant. He is thrust into an apocalyptic event that just may tear the planet apart.
I really enjoyed this book because it has a little bit of everything and covers many genres and book tropes in one. I was hooked the entire time. There were so many fascinating things going on. It is a book that needs to be read carefully because the details are important and things can get confusing if something was missed. The pace of the book and details were great. The story flowed even in this two-part novel. I recommend this book to anyone because it basically has something different in it that each person would enjoy. Overall has great bones! The book is separated into two parts, with different storylines in each. The second half makes several references to the first, so it's easy to see how the two will fit together going forward. For me, the writing style felt abrupt and in need of a good rounding out. There were instances where I needed to go back and reread to clarify points, because they were glossed over or not clearly worded--especially in part 1. Part 2 felt more coherent and easier to follow. Giving the chapters labels for whichever character it follows probably would have helped, since the view points change often. Again, overall good bones! I think the premise is very interesting, and will be a cool tale once completed.
