Crucifixion to Creation: Roots of the Traditional Mass Traced back to Paradise

Rate this book
Crucifixion to Creation shows that the roots of the traditional Roman liturgy can be traced from the Crucifixion back through the worship in Solomon's Temple to the Tabernacle made by Moses and through to the Garden of Eden and even beyond.

This book examines certain eternal elements of Holy Mass, the immutable pattern underlying them, the personal cause of the unity in all Creation, and the greatest wonder on Earth. Before drawing suitable conclusions, the book surveys how drastic changes in the Catholic Church since the 1950s rip up the ancient roots, obscuring the Way to God.

What was lost by our first parents in Paradise was returned myriadfold by Christ on Calvary. The Mass of Ages transmits to us that Life from the Cross which exceeds the life -- on offer or forbidden -- of every fruit in Eden. Crucifixion to Creation is written to elevate our participation in Holy Mass and to awaken the deepest love for Tradition.

You know it's a good book when a) you can have to stop every two pages to process the depth of what you've just read and b) cannot write a review that properly expresses your appreciation for it, let alone adequately describes the quality writing of the text itself.

I can say that this book not only helped me better understand the Old Testament, but it has also spurred a better love for my Lord Christ and an awed appreciation for His Mass of the Ages. Read it, please. *Forrest Gump voice* That's all I have to say about that.

This was amazing! I have a new understanding and appreciation for the Old Testament. There were so many things explained and I was trying to wrap my head around everything... I'm going to have to read it again. This was definitely my favorite of this series, even though the others were excellent as well. It was amazing to see the roots of the Mass (the Traditional Mass) traced all the way back to basically the first word of the Bible! It was very deep at times, definitely take your time. I read it on the Kindle, which was really nice for reading footnotes,( which I highly recommend you read.)
Overall, a very interesting series... Good for meditation and increasing your knowledge of Scripture and the Mass. Highly, highly recommend!

If you are familiar with the stories of the Old Testament then this book is in a lot of ways mind blowing. Father Mawdsley shows how the traditional Latin Mass traces its roots back to creation. In fact because the Passion of Christ is the single most important event that has ever happened and because for God time doesn’t run like a clock every thing in the Old Testament is to prepare us for that Passion. The Mass is now the expression of that Passion in linear time for everyone after. The Passion of Christ is eternal and therefore the representation of the sacrifice of Christ at the Latin mass is the most beautiful expression of all that the Old Testament has taught us about how God wants to be worshipped with the added elements of his New Covenant.

3.5 - I really liked this!

I learned a lot about the connections between the old and new testament, some of which blew my mind.

However, some parts were slow and redundant. I also felt the author lost track of his pacing and the purpose at times. Despite these issues, I feel more educated on the faith and on the biblical roots of many elements present at the Mass.

Excellent work by Fr. Mawdsley demonstrating that the elements of the Traditional Latin Mass are found, even if in seed form, beginning in Eden and continuing to develop throughout the Old Testament until their fulfillment in Christ.

Yet this book is not an apology for the TLM. Rather, it’s a rich examination of biblical theology and typology which shows readers God’s truly infinite knowledge and wisdom and that none of even the finest details of biblical history were coincidental or random. You’ll walk away with a greater reverence and awe for both our God and His written word from this text.
