A standalone novel with character and location links to all the Calendar Murder Mysteries!
Two years ago, Meredith Blake was running scared, her life in tatters and her money rapidly hemorrhaging. When she discovers the quaint mountain town of Calendar, she finds everything she freedom, anonymity, and a second chance to build a new life. Here, she can start over by opening a fashion boutique far away from the nightmare her life once was, and begin to heal. That is, until Brad Van den Berg, the man who spooked her into fleeing in the first place, appears on her doorstep with a knife imbedded in his chest.
How did Brad track her down? Especially when she was so careful not to leave any traces for him to follow? And who stabbed him? More importantly, why does the killer seem intent on framing Meredith for Brad’s murder? Sure, she has plenty of motivation but she’s no killer, and she can only wonder how anyone discovered their connection. Local Police Detective, Sam Logan seems convinced of her innocence, but Meredith knows she has to prove it beyond a shadow of a doubt, lest the life she so carefully created swiftly comes tumbling down.
Calendar is a pretty tourist town, where strangers are plentiful, but Meredith has to decide on whom she can rely as a friend and who is actually her foe.

I am a big fan of the Calendar Murder Mysteries and Dress for Murder fit right in with relatable characters and a strong mystery. The woman now known as Meredith Blake has built a new life and a successful dress shop after leaving her abusive husband two years previously. Through the book she develops special friendships that are the hallmark of a great cozy mystery. We have met Sam Logan in the earlier books but this time the book is his as well as hers. The time with friends and the dress shop are fun and balance the murder for which she falls under suspicion. Well-paced and entertaining. The only negative is her interaction with the killer late in the book makes her look clueless rather than strong as I suspect that it is meant to. Although there are some overlapping characters, the protagonist is unique for each novel in the series so they can be read as standalones. Once again, I want the book to go on so I can spend more time with Meredith, Sam and her friends.
Camilla Chafer is one of my favorite authors and she did not disappoint with this book. Very interesting story line and believable characters. She leads us through a murder mystery while the main character struggles to rebuild her life. It’s a life that is so totally removed from the one she fled. Never feeling safe and constantly looking over her shoulder fearing her abusive husband will find her. Trying to clear her name with the help of friends when that husband ends up dead on her doorstep leads to a frightening conclusion.
Another good read from Camilla Chafer! I love that this book is a stand alone but has familiar characters. The back story of Meredith Blake was well told and I appreciate the author using this topic as it is something too many women experience and not enough can escape. The way it was written made you really care about what happened to Meredith throughout the story. The story had good flow and was a quick enjoyable read.
It’s hard for me to believe this is the same author who writes Lexi Graves books , which I love . I did liked that it was easy to read but sometimes the h was dumb as a box of rocks . In the first half of the book the h comes off as rude and unfriendly . She was supposedly a super model, married and living the high life. How could she be so trusting and naive after all these bad things keep happening.
An engaging story although I didn't always connect with the writing and found the plot a bit clunky at times. The characters were earnest and sweet. But I started to get irritated by how dense the protagonist was at times, it seemed to me.
