How can I save the world when I've lost so much?

My heart is broken. One of my fated mates was taken from me, and I don't know how I will ever feel whole again. Part of me believes he's still out there. Part of me would risk anything to find him. But there are bigger things at stake now and time is running out.

Soon, The Shadow King will rise and I will be expected to defeat him.

I know I'm powerful. My mages know I'm powerful. But we're about to discover the final piece to the puzzle that is The Phoenix Prophecy, and I'm not sure any of us are ready for what we'll be asked to sacrifice.

‘Flames’ is the fifth book in The Phoenix Prophecy series. It is a full-length paranormal romance novel with MM and a cliffhanger. Check author's site for TW.

how are y’all gonna keep referring to Sam as her brother in the beginning while he’s ‘dead’ but they’ve BEEN doing the dirty😭

miss ma’am worked so hard in the previous books to explain their relationship as fated since they haven’t seen each other for 20 years and aren’t related at all, only to have them all act like they’re siblings again in start of this one??? then he comes back and they’re f*****g again!!!! BFFR. gave me the ick.

i can’t believe i couldn’t find a single review that mentioned this.

anyway, i swear like half of this book was smut scenes and the plot felt so one-dimensional. disappointed

We start here exactly where we left things with that previous thrilling finale. Sam is now trapped in another dimension a place of nightmares and Nova holds Kole responsible when she realises just how he withheld vital information namely his previous vision from her. The danger intensifies as the shadow king prepares to rise and targets Nova with everything he’s got it’s her blood that holds the key to his resurrection.

We are now finally approaching the finish line and the end is definitely now in sight. Nova will have to make some heavy choices if she wants to rise from the ashes fulfil the prophecy and finally defeat her enemy. This finish was equally heartbreaking and poignant as Nova and her men finally comprehend just what she must do if she wants to survive. I’m now looking forward to learning how this all is resolved.

Another brilliant instalment.
I intend to write a full review for the final book and the series as a whole rather than these individual ones ☺️

Frustrating (spoilers)

Now, this series is by no means horrible. But I this is one of those rare moments I have when all the sex is super annoying. Nova and the guys are being intimate more than they are focusing on developing her “phoenix abilities”. She’s strong, she’s not a pushover, but I personally feel like she’s useless.🤷🏽‍♀️ I would love this series if there was more plot and less..idk sex fillers?

Nova was incredibly annoying. Like more so than the other books. Why does she continuously act as if she’s the only person who has had bad shit happen to them?! Thank god Luther doesn’t give a hoot about people’s feelings and snapped her out of it 😂😂

We made progress in last book with the prophecy, and we get a smidgen more at the end of this one. Definitely slow paced and filled with random spicy-ish (I say this because it’s mainly the same moves/words, just different people. Minus the one where Mack takes charge) scenes which would be fine if this wasn’t the 5th book… like let’s get a move on, your lives are at stake folks.

Also, wtf happened to Nico?! If he doesn’t survive this… I’ll do absolutely nothing but dang, he should be added to the harem. He needs love and our pack of messed up individuals could put him back together.

Anyway, I’m still here and I’ll be reading the next book.

You cannot say you are saving your brother and constantly refer to him as your brother and then have sex with him. The language is bad… sometimes it’s formal and sometimes it’s not. There has been no character growth and any there was has given me whiplash because of came from nowhere. I’m only still reading to see how the prophecy comes to an end.

Well I asked for book 5 and wow…what a rollercoaster ride of twist and turns Flames turned out to be. We are dropped right back to where Embers finished and the action continues and although we are starting to get some questions answered, more are being thrown in the mix too. And the spice….OMG! Judging by the series so far I think the next and final installment Fire Bird is going to be EPIC!

DNF at 40%.

I couldn’t do it anymore. I really tried but every other scene is sex.

Every tragedy is “fixed” with a sex scene immediately after. People have died, others being mauled, her fated five are missing, gravely injured, and psychologically worn and all they ever do is just have sex. I wanted to push through to see how it ends but I just started dreading it. It got worse and worse.

3 stars because it’s easy to read, short chapters, and the overall plot has so much potential but holy H.E.L

4.5 out of 5 stars!

First and foremost! These books go in order and leave off on cliffhangers! If you haven't read the first four, then this review will be confusing and contain spoilers! There is one more book after this before the series is complete!

"Want to Johnny these wolves?" - Luther

The Shadow King is coming and wants The Phoenix! With the loss of one of her mates Nova is struggling to remain strong as she tries to prepare for the impending doom. She believes her mate is not lost but how can, she be sure? How can she get him back if he is still alive?

The spotlight is shining brighter on Nova as the clock ticks down. There's a piece about The Phoenix Prophecy that's missing and has yet to be figured out. Will Nova and her remaining mates be able to figure it out? Will they even want to know what the missing puzzle piece? How will this all end?

"A fire witch cannot be burned by a magick flame." - Luther

It has just been one thing after the next since the moment Nova set foot in Phoenix Falls! She hasn't gotten much of a break or time to really process her emotions and work through her grief. New grief has been added on and it's hitting harder than anything, the bond she shares with all her mates is a strong one.

Her powers are growing by the day in preparation for the Shadow King's return. Gearing up for her to defeat the Shadow King but is she powerful enough? How can she defeat this being when her heart is so heavy? I really loved watching her powers grow and this one scene where she completely stunned a certain MMC. The MMC then proceeding to brag about her and how her magick has advanced.

I loved the amount of support within the group dynamic. The understanding the cast had with one another and how they made sure to let Nova know she wasn't dealing with things on her own. That she had people who loved her and wished to be with her no matter what. Hard decisions being made, trust in each other being tested, and so much more. Nova isn't the only one battling her emotions and feelings of loss.

I loved getting to see more of Tanner and his personality. I also really liked how he was forming a bond with someone, and everyone could tell he was. Got to see more of his abilities and what he could accomplish. Luther's arc has been one of the most interesting ones for me. How far he has come since book one! Mack will always have a spot in my heart and Snow. . .I want to cuddle that big polar bear!

Kole and his brooding personality along with his want to drink from Nova. I admired and understood why he did what he had to, keeping to rules and codes of conduct. I enjoyed watching the struggle and drama surrounding his character. I still love Kole and wish I could get a tattoo from him! Just I love the individuality of the guys and what they bring to the table.

The cliffhanger from the last book was intense but this one. . . It will break your heart and the author even wrote in the acknowledgements an apology! I love cliffhangers, especially well written ones that have you begging for the next read! I thought it was well done and I loved how it all played out. We have one more book and I am very interested to see how this will all end. I'm hoping we will get somewhat of a HEA!

This book does contain language, violence, blood, and some gore. Eve's a bit insane and I'm pretty sure her unique drug addiction hasn't helped anything. Blood magick is used and some of the things surrounding Eve's character may be disturbing to some. Past traumas and history with physical abuse is brought up in this read, there's a brief scene with a seizure episode.

We are still getting spoiled with little recaps about the previous reads. I love that the author's sticking to multiple POVs within the books, so we get to understand and feel what the individual characters are going through. The spice in this book did not disappoint! We are still getting all the different variations of actions, no FF action in this series. I love that there's some bi representation within the group dynamic, Nova fully approving!

Just I am ready for the next and final installment in this series! I love the book cover art for this series and just all of the characters within the pages. Including the villains and how they're written! Ugh one more book and then I will have to say goodbye to the cast until I reread the series.

Enjoy the dark why choose romance as The Phoenix Prophecy unfolds! Don't forget to give the author some stars!

"He does not hate you." "Ah. He does." I lean over and kiss her cheek. "Maybe. But it doesn't matter. I love you enough for two people." Book 1 pg. 247

***Spoilers Ahead***

I did end up finishing this series despite the rating being 3/5. (It's worth noting that I automatically give 3 stars if I FINISH a book, because my ADD will not let me finish something I don't REALLY like.) I did like the books overall, I think the biggest reason I finished was because of how much I liked the characters. I usually don't mind a good insta-love story, especially when it comes to fated mates, because it makes sense with fated mates. However, it wasn't yet accepted that they were fated mates and already one of them was telling the FMC that she loved him. Which is just kind of cringy to me? I just felt like the overall plot was almost an afterthought. The world wasn't really explained as much as I would have liked, leaving me confused in some areas. There were also some chapters that were from the villain's POV. Which I don't mind, but it was kind of a curveball and I had no idea what was happening and had to read the chapter twice. I loved the love stories between the characters, and I think there is a lot of potential for the fantasy plot aspect it just felt lacking. Like we kept leading to something great just to be a bit let down.

Note to the author: there needs to be a better trigger warning, please!

Nova has survived being beaten, raped, and branded by her boyfriend. One night when she is sure he will finally go to far an kill her, something ignites inside her, literally. The next thing she knows her apartment, her boyfriend, and herself are on fire. She somehow ends up completely unharmed. Only problem is, she lives in a city that is run by the Anti Magick Alliance so when the paramedics notice her clothes are burned but she is not, the whispers start. Luckily, her neighbor shows up to help her get out of the city before she is classified a witch and burned at the stake (maybe literally?) for using her powers against a human. Her neighbor drops her off at the bus station, gives Nova her coat and $200 and tells her to flee.

She flees to Phoenix Falls where she meets a group of men that take an instant interest in her well being. Kole, a seer and earth mage that is a recovering blood addict. Mack, the "daddy" of the group, professor, sheriff, and a polar bear shifter! Tanner, a water mage, and more importantly an empath that knows what Nova needs before she does. And Luther, a fire mage and officer in Mack's department.

They are convinced that she is part of a prophecy that will save supes and humans alike from the shadow king that is determined to return to earth to rule, and he isn't working alone. He has a the Human Extinction League, led by Ragnor, to help him return. And he is willing to do and use whoever he needs to, to accomplish it. Including his son, Nico.

Nico is a celebrity known for trying to bring supes and humans together, he also happens to look a hell of a lot like Sam, the foster brother Nova thinks she killed when she was a child. When Nova is led to believe Nico IS Sam, she risks everything to protect him. Luckily, she has her men around to save her from continuing to make the mistake of trusting him. But trusting him led to her finding out that, although Nico isn't Sam, Sam is still alive. Nova and her men are determined to find and save him.

Nova is lucky enough to have these four men in her life to help her not only survive, but also fulfill the prophecy she still isn't convinced she is a part of. There is just one problem, the prophecy calls for **5** mates. With how she is feeling towards Sam now that they are older, it makes sense that he is the fifth mate in the prophecy, and with the voice that keeps speaking to them telling them to find "the wolf shifter" it can only mean him, right?

The six of them must be willing to do whatever it takes to save everyone and everything from the shadow king, including sacrificing each other. Will their love help them on their journey? Or prevent them from doing what is necessary to succeed?

Reviven a Elena.

WOW, just WOW. It was insane the roller coast we were put on from the start. I can only imagine how Nova feels about everything that happened with Sam. And then what happens with one of her other mates and the following fight. UGH, I know why she feels the way she does, but oh girl you know it’s not that simple.

I did love seeing more from Luther and Mack 🥵. Ugh the two of them with Nova, sheesh just feel like melting in a puddle. Also, we get to see snow a bit more, or Ball whichever name you prefer to call him 😂. I know that Nova goes through so much, and the guys are all going through it with her. She is upset about Sam, and we’ve got Tanner coming up with ideas, Luther putting his foot down, Mack trying to keep the peace, and Kole with all his feelings.

Even with the plot line thickening, Cara adds in the 🌶 scenes where they make sense and it doesn’t feel like they’re just thrown in. I also like that we got to see Luther and Tanner?!!? Yes, please! We get a few chapters of Sam and I was glad we weren’t in the dark about him the entire time. I don’t want to give anything away with that situation but, UGH.

Kole, wow he plays such a big part in the last few chapters of the book. We also see the group realize that the lies need to stop and that they really lean on each other. But the last few chapters, sheesh I felt like my heart was being ripped out. I cried actual tears when I was reading a bit of it.

Also, I can’t wait for the last book, seeing the Shadow King, Ragnor and Eve get what’s coming to them. UGH, this is going to feel so good. Also, seeing the Phoenix Rise, that’s going to just be epic, I know that Cara will do it justice.

This is a new author for me and I saw this series advertised and just thought it sounded really interesting. Y’all when I tell you I DEVOURED these books. I read all 6 in two and a half days. What was sleep?? I needed answers!

Nova, our FMC, has lived her life thinking she’s human until one night while defending herself from her abusive boyfriend she suddenly sets some magic free. She has to escape or others she’ll be hunted down. She ends up in Phoenix Falls where she meets our guys. Upon meeting her they’re sure she’s the one that’s destined to fulfill this prophecy they had discovered and save everyone.

I loved this story. Not only was the premise different than anything I’ve read before but it constantly kept me on my toes. Each book ended on a cliffhanger that made me grateful this was a completed series. When I thought I had something figured out another curveball was thrown at the characters.

The relationships between Nova and each of the guys was absolutely beautiful. Tanner, our empath and water mage, is so sweet and I adored the retriever energy from him. Kole, seer and Earth mage, he’s broody and has this trauma he’s working through but his bond with Nova is everything. Mack, shifter and air mage, he’s the big brother/Daddy of the group and man let me tell you…he’s definitely a Daddy. Sam, werewolf, he’s got that same retriever energy as Tanner and is just so sweet and protective. Luther, fire mage, he’s broody and grumpy and we love him all the more for it.

This series was spicy, it was funny, it was heart wrenching, it made me cry, and I loved every minute of it. It’s slept on and I’m going to recommend it to everyone. Go read it.

Holy pancakes what a book.
True to her word the author sure did make me feel all the feels.

Nova and her guys cant seem to catch a break, it made me so sad but then again it gave me hope too, not many funny ha ha moments felt this book was more serious, which is obveious with what is coming.

At times i was so scared and filled with dread, even at one point close to the end i was so keyed up i almost vomited..

This book is so haunting it is beautiful.. cant wait for the final book but on the other hand i dont want this story/series to be over its so amazing.

What i love is how its not predictable in a way, sure ive had guesses and thought i knew what was to come but more times then not i was wrong and that i loved.

My heart nearly shattered at the last 2 or 3 chapters i felt so sad for the guys but ive held hope and thank fluf i did because holy macaroni.!

With the clifhanger less brutal then i thought it was going to be i think am ready for the last book and cant wait to read and review!

So let the wait begin to the next and final book! 2023 is going to start off right for sure!

These books are starting to meld together. That is partially my fault for not writing the review till I am already deep into the next books. But also I feel like this series should have been 3 meatier books and more heavily edited. Some stuff that happens just doesn't matter. Like there was this whole thing where Kole was mad that his mom broke the seer rules and that there were going to be consequences... then it was never mentioned again. Little stuff like that where it could have been edited out and some of these books combined. I like where the story is going, I always love reading about bad ass bitches and I really hope that is where Nova is going. She has been due an upgrade for a while and I am excited to see her power up and really be the leader of the group, no more damsel in distress, that has been done. Granted, I think this series did it well but I am over it now. I want to see Nova kick some ass.

Potential spoilers ahead

After Sam falls into the Shadow King's realm, and his mother returns from the dead, Nova is crushed, devastated and terrified of what this means for her and her mates.

'Flames' was by far the most action packed and thrilling book yet of the series, it kept me glued to the pages from start to finish. I feel like this series and the writing just gets better and better, as it continues, I literally devour them within the space of a few hours.

I really enjoyed the range of perspectives in Flames, especially as so many different characters are going through their own personal growth, development and arcs.

Get ready to inhale the spiciest book so far, with a plot that is constantly unravelling, and stakes that get higher and higher, this series is captivating, compelling and will keep you enthralled from the moment you dive into this world.

"You have to believe it will all be okay in the end."

This book is classified as Paranormal Romance, and is book five of a connected series. It does not have a trigger warning list.

The book is written in first person. This book has multiple point of views: Nova, Sam, Luther, Mack, Kole, Tanner, and Ragnor. Nova, Luther, Mack, Kole, and Tanner are in books one through four, while Sam is in books three and four. Nova, Luther, Mack, Kole, and Tanner are grieving the loss of someone during the first attack, while on the run from what is happening. Ragnor is a werewolf who just wants his wife back.

The reason I gave this book four stars instead of five, and the only reason, is due to the lack of trigger warnings. The book has a link to scan to get to the trigger warnings, but the link is broke and comes up as "does not exist".

Absolutely amazing!

Wow, oh wow. How to explain what I just read? Um, amazing? Nova and her guys are back with Flames that picks us up right where Embers left us and it’s a fast on-edge pace pretty much the whole time. We find answers, see relationships grow and love deepen, and wish we could close our eyes to pretend some things may not happen all while being drug through our feelings from the powerful way this story is written.
Nova, Tanner, Kole, Mack, Sam, and Luther can barely all be together calmly or peacefully for more than a few hours but they make the most of their time, even when it’s not all 6 of them. I still adore all of the guys and absolutely despise Ragnor and Eve. I’m so ready for Fire Bird already and I know it’ll be a masterfully epic ending!

I always love an action packed series, but with these people I’m starting to think they just deserve a solid break… I can’t imagine the kind of anguish Nova has already experienced throughout this series and this book is the hardest so far. Only a few sentences in and I was once again enraptured by the storyline, feeling my heart break alongside Nova. This is the kind of series where I love a devoted harem! Nova deserves all the love and care she can get, but she gives her men just as much of herself, if not more. This book builds up in a big way to the grand finale that’s destined to happen in the final book. I can’t wait to get my hands on it!

This series keeps getting better and better! I’m obsessed and I never want this series to end.
The chemistry is AMAZING! The world this author created is literally out of this world, makes you never want to leave. These men are some of the most loyal, protective, caring men ever and the love they feel for their girl and each other is some of the best I’ve ever read!
Nova is one of the strongest FMC’s, she’s been through so much but she still has the biggest heart!
Daddy Mack, Tanner, Kole, Sam and Luther! The best men ever. They literally worship the ground that Nova walks on and if I don’t have a man who treats me as amazing as they treat her then I really don’t want him.

so exciting!

This was another wonderful addition to Nova’s story! This part of their journey was so much more emotionally intense. Between the emotional and physical injuries they sustained, the trauma of what the future holds, and the lingering remnants of their past still causing issues- I was reeling the entire time!

I loved the small progress we got to see in each of their relationships with both Nova and each other! From Kole and Nova overcoming their issues with Kole’s Seer limitations, to the progress made between the others! And Daddy Mack taking charge! Talk about starting a fire!

I am excited to see how the series concludes when the final book releases!

The roller coaster that is Flames....wow!!! This book picks up after the end of Embers and leaves you with one heck of a cliffy. Honestly, I'm not even mad about it. I thought it was the perfect way to end book 5. Cara did such a great job moving the story ahead, giving the characters more depth. Rounding out the relationships. And those smexy scenes...woooo girl! They were smoking hot! I adore how creative Cara Clare is when I comes to writing these scenes. I can't wait for Firebird to come out in January. I think I'll be a bit sad as it's the last book out of this series.

Flames - book 5 in The Phoenix Prophecy and it definitely is not showing any sign of letting up on its fact paced action and great plot twists. This book picks up right where book 4 ended with the repercussions of Sam disappearance is affecting all of them. I did love the dynamic Nova (FMC) and the guys - Tanner, Kole, Mack and Luther but to be fair ive loved that from the first book. That cliffhanger ending was just knockout! I cant tell you how much im dying to get my hands on Fire Bird - book 6 now

By the moon!!

I really tried NOT to finish this one. I wanted to put it off as long as possible. I didn't know how I would survive this book hangover, but this one actually seems to be the least painful of them all. Nova and her boys actually have some real solid happiness. There are still some major hurdles, but even on the run they are able to make some good memories. I hate that there is only one book left to go but I know this is a series that I need for my shelves. I plan on revisiting often!

Cry baby

I usually don't leave a review till I've finished a series but I just can't wait most books I read I find amazing and most of my stars are a 4 but I've givin this book a 5 and if I could give it more I would. I don't find many books that can capture me with the story and plot and make me cry but man o man did this book get me. I've loved the series so far but this book I cried for 4 chapters keep up the great work Cara I'll be looking for more if they're all like this great work now on to the last book.

DNF 38%. I had so much hope for the series, but it kept getting worse and increasingly boring. Nova has had no character development and I feel is getting more whiny and annoying. as well as, after Sam went to the underworld they kept referring to him as her brother after they clearly made the distinction that he is not. Gross. I decided to DNF because it’s a waste of my time and I don’t really have an attachment to the characters after 4 1/2 books. And honestly they could’ve made this series 3 books instead of 6.
