Chelby has escaped Sector Nine’s detention center and avoided execution, but her troubles are only just beginning…
Her sleep is disturbed by terrifying nightmares of Fae assassins shooting down a blue dragon. As the dragon turns to stone and shatters, Chelby wakes up to a blazing inferno in her room.
She lost control—again—and there are consequences.
Too many lives are at stake and Chelby is too dangerous to stay in the dormitory.
Dr. Gould has no choice but to move her to the therapeutic center until she can master her fire abilities. Banished from her friends and taken out of training, Chelby sees the center as a pretty version of jail.
Will she be stuck there indefinitely, or will the continuing revelations about her origins change everything for her?
Sector Nine is up to their old tricks again.
They’re using the Edinburgh orphanage Chelby lived at while she was a kid as a front to develop super soldiers to hunt down supernaturals.
The orphanage is the key to her past, but the only way she can go with her team is to prove to Dr. Gould that she can control her powers.
Can Chelby break through the fear holding her back from getting the answers she needs? Or will her family connections get to her first?

Operation: Cupid by co-authors Michael Anderle and M. Guida is the second installment in the authors Paranormal Mercenary Corps series. This book picks up 2 days after Chelby was rescued from Sector Nine's infamous prisoners under the control of her stepfather Robert Brooks. Even though she's safe with her team, her sleep is disturbed by terrifying nightmares of Fae assassins shooting down a blue dragon. As the dragon turns to stone and shatters, Chelby wakes up to a blazing inferno in her room.
I stand by my points in my first review of book 1 - yes Chelby is still emotionally stunted and now the introduction of a potential love triangle (is actually just annoying and everyone could see it coming). The capitals for the screams, gunfire etc remain annoying and actually don’t read well. These make it seem as though a child is dictating these parts.
However, again it continues to be a light, fantasy read. I enjoyed it as I enjoy most books, I enjoy reading and seeing what other worlds people can bring into play. Therefore, as I feel this world has premise, I enjoyed it.
Too many times the story stated things and then later the characters acted like it was a big surprise. Most of the books with Michael Anderle's name attached to them have been well thought out, written and edited. This one lacks A LOT! The whole series so far is NOT what I expect from a book published by LMBPN. Everything is too hurried without giving the characters any depth and constant inconsistency. Going to skip the rest of this series.
It was so enticing that I couldn’t put it down, this book grabbed my interest from the very first page. I had to know what happened next. The story is well written with a very good storyline. Welcome to the Paranormal Mercenary Corps. Chelby has escaped Sector Nine’s detention center and avoided execution, but her troubles are only just beginning. Her sleep is disturbed by terrifying nightmares of Fae assassins shooting down a blue dragon. As the dragon turns to stone and shatters, Chelby wakes up to a blazing inferno in her room. She lost control, yet again, and there are consequences. Too many lives are at stake and Chelby is too dangerous to stay in the dormitory. Dr. Gould has no choice but to move her to the therapeutic center until she can master her fire abilities. Banished from her friends and taken out of training, Chelby sees the center as a pretty version of jail. The orphanage is the key to her past, but the only way she can go with her team is to prove to Dr. Gould that she can control her powers. Can Chelby break through the fear holding her back from getting the answers she needs? Or will her family connections get to her first? I guess we shall find out. So with all that and more this story pulls you in and holds you tight. I can’t wait to find out what happens next. I highly recommend to everyone.
Chelby was rescued from sector nine’s prison but it has left her with more nightmare/memories. After she almost sets her dorm on fire she is relocated to the therapeutic wing to learn more about her powers without endangering anyone. Here she is undergoing more training, both fighting skills and power management. The commander, her uncle, also helps with some of her memories. There is a captured sector nine soldier. Brody, that recognizes her from a picture and will only talk to her. It seems the picture was of her dead mother and was found in her foster fathers’ office. Brody was caught stealing the picture, imprisoned and tortured by sector nine and intimately rescued by the PMC. This all leads to a rescue mission at the Scottish orphanage that both Chelby and Brody attended. This book has a fair amount of action, magic, lots of learning about the past, learning more about powers and surprises. Chelby is only eighteen but most of the time acts much older with occasional forays into teenage action. This is an easy, quick read with interesting characters and character interactions. Enjoyable.

The 2nd book in this series has me wanting to read the next as we meet Brody, a human with dragon blood, an experiment by sector nine into creating a super soldier, Chelby finally shifts into a very powerful purple dragon, and she finds her father who she thought was dead, and Jonas and Brody are both fighting for her attention.
While I really believe this story has potential, it is currently beyond ridiculous. Part of the issue is the time-flow--I could swear only days have passed but suddenly the team is going on a mission. Has two months passed? Where and when did all this supposed bonding take place? They're a "family"? While there are definitely parts of this book I enjoyed, I was not able to stop scoffing at the unbelievable actions and reactions of the players. Brody and Chelby stage a rescue with no plan, just her naive belief that she'll figure something out. There is no chemistry in the near-kiss scene--it was just weird. The whole thing is like a series of unrelated images strung together in some weird montage. I'm willing to keep reading in the hope this improves, but so far I'm really disappointed
Read the first, hoped they'd pull it together in the second, but it was worse. Cupid premise forgotten by chapter two, characters make cardboard look exciting, plot holes the size of dragons, team thrown into combat with almost no training and inept (and stupid) main character that the "leaders" are hiding all the useful information from. Obligatory lust triangle (won't call it love, one guy has known our "heroine" for ten minutes) just to provoke completely unprofessional actions that would cause removal from any sane team. And nobody even wonders how the bad guys knew they were coming? I can't believe Anderle put his name on this mess, but his standards have fallen a lot, so...
I still don't like the heroine, if anything my annoyance with her has doubled. She's not even trying to get stronger or better all she does is lie, refuse to eat, sweat and panic. All she has to do to gain control is to turn into a dragon, but oh no woe is me the assassins will get me. Because she's so safe as a human.... Then low and behold "I want to take back the throne" with what intelligence??? The supposed closeness of the team is perplexing to me, when did she even start liking Jonas?
I just couldn't, I would have thought two authors would make a book better.
Chelby has been rescued from the labs she was being held in, but now she has to come to terms with who and what she is.
Keep your tissues handy towards the end, because even though there is a limited amount of action in this book, there are some sad parts. Chelby definitely learns a lot about herself in this one, and there are some interesting new characters to appear. An enjoyable addition to this series, despite a potential love triangle forming! Recommended for urban fantasy fans.
Operation: Cupid (Paranormal Mercenary Corps Book 2)
Operation: Cupid (Paranormal Mercenary Corps Book 2) 🔥💓💞💕 Chelby is starting learning about more of her powers and her real family, and the team is starting to learn to work together. There is so much going on in this book, like a craxy rollercooaster ride with plenty of action and some intense situations. I really LOVED 💖💕💞😍💓 💘❤💓💟💗💜💝 💙💚💛love the book and did not want to put it down. I am looking forward to book 3 and see what happens next. I definitely recommend this book & series!!!.
I’m often disappointed by the second book in a series. It often feels like a n artificial bridge to a later book. This was a pleasant exception. The adventure continued with increasing urgency. Chelby’s growth was believable even though one outcome was telegraphed early in the book. The characters in the second PMC team were barely there, but that didn’t distract from the development of Chelby’s team. Once again, there was a satisfying conclusion that also set the stage for the next book.
Emotions are fickle things, twisting in the wind at every change. It’s so easy to point fingers of at anyone else and not accept kindness for what it’s truly worth. So much can happen in a very short time. We gotta grown up and face the pain rather than shifting blame.
Chelby is learning more about her powers and her family, while the team is learning to work together. There is a lot going on in this book, with plenty of action and some intense situations. I really enjoyed the book and did not want to put it down. I am looking forward to the continuing story.
Super series; exciting, intriguing and very enjoyable!!!!!
Congratulations to M. Guida and Michael Anderle for this amazing series. It’s extremely hard to find such interesting and exciting authors who not only write intelligently but also provide top rated plots, characters and excitement in the stories. I’m really looking forward to the next book.
This series has captured my interest and has me reading for a long period of time when I only planned on a chapter or two. I'm on to book three and hopefully I will want to move on to four. Characters are still a little vague but I hope that will change as I continue the journey. Thumbs up from me.
This was an ok book and story line. Like many of the books in this genre/shared world, it was quick to ready with a long and arduous story line that ends quickly and decisively. Entertaining and worth the price as a Kindle Unlimited option. I wish these had more depth but appreciate authors using Kindle Unlimited.
Sequels Don't Always Live Up to the Original. This one Does!
This story picks up right at the end of Book 1...which was riveting to the end!
There is adventure, fantasy, tentative G-rated romance, danger, memories of past trauma and terror, rescue, loss, grudges, and more. Well written, great plot with mix of mystery and reveal. Highly recommend!
This was an excellent second installment to the first book. I have always been fascinated by stories about dragons. To find out Chelby is a dragon drew me into this story. I can't wait for the next book to come out.
Wow, I’ve been waiting for this. I loved the first book and this one didn’t disappoint. The action was exciting and some of our questions are answered. But there’s obviously loads more to come. Bring it on. Soon please.
More action, intrigue, and revelations. We get a little better insight into Chelby's background and have a new hero show up. Al in all a good read. Anxiously waiting on the ext book.
Chelby and her team lost the battle. One was lost forever and will never fight another battle. One positive that came from this battle is Chelby was able to change into her dragon. Not just any dragon, Chelby is the purple dragon
Good story so far I like it but not as much as M Guida other book series she has done.. I’m not a fan of Chelby the main character though she annoys me I can’t seem to like her.
I really enjoy strong female characters, and Chelby didn't let me down. So many things going on with lots of character developments, really an exciting story with lots of emotional roller coasters; can't wait to start the next.
This is the second book in the series and picks up right where the first book ends. They are still fighting Section Nine and Chelby is discovering her powers and her memory! Good read!
