Annoying neighbours. Public transport. Finding a job. All things Phoenix never had to deal with, until now.
Phoenix Simpson has never lived a ‘normal’ life. Being the firstborn of a father who ran a notorious, illegal organisation, a life of crime is all he’s ever known. However, after too many close calls, Phoenix made the choice to put his life as a top-level drug dealer behind to prevent any of his brothers getting hurt again, or worse.
But it’s hard to get a job with a criminal record, a previous spent conviction, and a mountain of pride.
By chance, Phoenix meets someone with ties to his time in jail, a period he never talks about. Phoenix doesn’t want reminders of his painful past, but Jazz Appiah is giving him a chance that no one else will. A job offer. Eventually Phoenix takes the opportunity, and it is there that he meets dance teacher Ama Asante, a woman who doesn’t crumble under his dark gaze or cutting remarks.
As frustrating as this is for Phoenix, he finds himself growing feelings for her, and settling into a lifestyle he never thought he’d fit into. That is, until ghosts from his past life return and Phoenix must make a big decision.
