Although I started looking at Dore trying to find some of the 200 or so sketches he did of his then-lover and my ancestor Cora Pearl, I have grown to love his work and eagerly await the library's 'misplaced' copy of 'London'. In this book, subdivided into chapters detailing his life and works (satire, adventure, horror, awe, realism and compassion)with a list of books illustrated by him, also contains excerpts of praise from Van Gogh.

A passionate account of his life. Enjoyable in that sense… perhaps a little overzealous, but I think that’s down to taste. If you only care about the pictures inside, you numbskulls, then it shall suffice. I am so pretentious it’s draining me
