Tropical Depression

Rate this book
Galen and Shane are back! The boys from Rain and Whiskey have returned, and this time the weather looks a little rocky. Galen Frost, ex semi-pro football player and entrepreneur, had a lot of work to do. He's bought into a football team, and promoting and wheeling and dealing are the name of the game. He's so busy that he hardly ever gets to see his lover Shane anymore, which means a lot of lonely naps on the couch. Shane is just as busy, managing the bar he works at, spending a lot of time covering for unreliable bartenders and serving drinks to good-time party boys. Used to be Galen couldn't get enough of him. Now he can hardly pry Galen away from the phone. Shane starts to wonder where he stands in Galen's life, and what he can do to get back to the way it was. When Galen starts to forget their dates together, bad weather starts to build, jealousy and hurt swirling into a tropical storm that he and Shane might not be able to bend under. Can these two headstrong men find a way to shelter from the wind and rain?

Texan to the bone and an unrepentant Daddy's Girl, BA Tortuga spends her days with her hounds and her beloved wife, texting her grandbabies, and eating Mexican food. When she's not doing that, she's writing. She spends her days off watching rodeo, knitting, and surfing Pinterest in the name of research. Following their own personal joys, BA and Julia heard the call of the high desert and they now live in the New Mexico mountains. BA's personal saviors include her wife, her best friends, and coffee. Lots of coffee. Really good coffee.

Having written everything from fist-fighting rednecks to cowboy daddies to werewolves, BA does her damnedest to tell the stories of her heart, which is committed to giving everyone their happily ever after. With books ranging from hard-hitting BDSM, to fiery passions, to the most traditional of love stories, BA refuses to be pigeon-holed by anyone but the voices in her head.

It’s only a couple of days until the next book in this series will be published, so I figured it was high time I brought myself up to date with Galen and Shane’s lives so as to be ready for their next adventure. Galen, a former semipro football player who now owns a bait shop in Florida, and Shane who is a bartender, first met in ‘Rain and Whiskey’ - one of the hottest male/male romances ever. With matching libidos, it is pretty clear that they have a good starting point, and the first book was all about them getting to know each other, figuring out how a longer-term relationship might work, and establishing a very loving relationship.

Galen Frost and Shane Barton are having a great time making a life together in the Florida Keys. Shane still manages the bar, Connection, and finds keeping the books, as well as the responsibility of being there when staff doesn’t show up, a headache.

Galen Frost, retired semipro football player, has gotten involved in a new venture. All he really wanted to do was take care of his bait shop but now, as part owner of a football team, it keeps him on the phone and on the road.

Shane is like a drug Galen cannot live without, and Shane feels the same way about Galen. Shane is an easy-going guy who would never intentionally hurt anyone, and always wants to show his worth to Galen on the home front. When Galen is grouchy or upset, Shane wants to fix him, but he gives Galen his space. As both Galen’s and Shane’s jobs begin to interfere in their life, Galen starts to worry about Shane—Shane’s had some unexpected incidences happen at the bar. Galen is also possessive and is somewhat quick to draw the wrong conclusion, and that could destroy what he has with Shane. But, even when the everyday drudgery interferes in their life, it doesn’t stop their eroticism, passion and love.

When an invitation to Thanksgiving from Galen’s momma arrives, Shane’s nervous, for sure, as he never really celebrated Thanksgiving with his family. For ten years, he hasn’t had any contact with them at all, and it also dredges up some sad memories from the previous year for both Shane and Galen. But it’s different this time around, and as more of Galen’s family show up, Shane realizes this is his family now, too.

Tropical Depression is a steamy sequel to Rain and Whiskey. BA Tortuga delivers the continuing story of Shane and Galen and how they have progressed in their love-forever-relationship. She keeps us on edge, just a wee bit, with some of the tiffs the guys get into. But, the tiffs always lead to an erotic make-up session. Galen’s momma brings such sweetness and wisdom to the story, along with his Aunt and family members. And I certainly have to mention, Victor the gator, who Shane is always concerned about, as well as the new addition, Goober the pup. They both bring lots of humor to the story.

I really like the Stormy Weather series and am hoping for more. I highly recommend reading Rain and Whiskey first because it gives background on Galen and Shane.

Review:
I am going to start off by saying that I have read several books by this author before and have really enjoyed them. I even liked the first book of this series Rain and Whiskey. Book two, Tropical Depression was not what I look for in a story. Yes, there is a story in this book, but I found it very hard to follow. The story was way overpowered by the sexual content in this book. Galen (Len) and Shane are very likable characters. When there are actual dialogue and interactions, other than sex, they are fun, witty, playful and loving. The plot of this story was supposed to be about how these two men who love each other struggle with their relationship and the demands of work. I didn’t really see this struggle until the last 15% of this story. A couple that is ripping each other’s clothes off every other page is not struggling. Chemistry, this story has more than enough. The sexual interactions were indeed hot. Tortuga did an excellent job of showing that not only was the sexual relationship between Len and Shane amazing but that they really did love one another. The pacing did not have a good flow for me. One page they are having Thanksgiving dinner at Len’s mom’s house and then the next page they were back at their home having sex again. I didn’t even realize that they left Len’s mother’s house. The story ended on a funny note that shows how likable these characters really are. There was little to no character development in this story, but in defense, there was strong character development in the first book. To wrap things up, I would have really loved this story if there were more story and less sex. If however, you love reading about two sexy guys getting it on in every position, just about anywhere, go one click this book and enjoy.

Rating: 1.5 stars. I didn't read the first book in the series and if it is anything like this one I'm glad I didn't. This book was awful. I skimmed 90% of it. There was no substance at all. It was constant sex..sex and more sex. I wanted to read a book about the struggles of a couple trying to cope with conflicting schedules and I got some minor skirmishes between bouts of sex. Honestly not more than one or two pages would go by before the couple was going at it again. Also after skimming through this book, it wouldn't surprise me to learn the BA Tortuga and Sean Michael were the same person. The writing is exactly the same. Actually, this is exactly the type of book I would expect from Sean Michael and I wasn't expecting it from BA Tortuga. I'm just glad that I bought it on sale from DSP because it is definitely not worth the $6.99 that Amazon is charging for it right now. If you want a book that has actual substance, this one is not for you. Cannot recommend.

Ok so I am all for a book with a lot of sexy time but this book was an overload of it. I love a good book with with a good sex scene, who doesn't? But for this book I feel like there was all sex and hardly any storyline. When I read the description of this book I was looking forward to the storyline with some good scenes thrown in but that is not what I felt I got.

I am being honest when I say I ended up having a sex overload with this book and found that I was skipping over the sexy times, which is rare for me, but then I realized about 70 percent through the book that was all there really was to this book because I had skipped more of the book then I read about the storyline. I found that out of every four of five pages that it would have a paragraph or so about what was going on in the story but then it would quickly revert back to it being sex again.

For that alone I gave this book a three. And in my opinion that is really pushing it on scoring. In my opinion this was a book that was a porno flick in a book form which is fine other then the fact that from the description of the book it should have been so much more. If the description had not lead me to believe that there was a good storyline then I would have known from the start what I was getting into and would have rated the book into accordance of what I felt it was, an extremely erotic read. But that was not the case and that is why I am giving it a three.

The other reason I am giving it a three is because I felt like the characters in this book are depicted to come off as what some TV shows would describe and protest an uneducated "hick" would be and that does not set well with me. I felt these two men was not given justice for their characters. There should have been more substance to their characters the then "yeah, yeah" which is their favorite lines. I felt this was more of a cheap porno then two men that love each other. I know that is harsh of me to say but that is exactly how I felt while I was reading this.

I love most of B.A. Tortuga's books but this one was not up to the standards that I have come to expect from this author. That being said, I will not let my feelings for this book negatively impact me reading any future books.

From that review: " Now I love me some Shane and Galen, that's true. And goodness knows that sometimes in the swamps, there isn't much to do but kick back, drink, have tons of sex and love on each other. But oh my is there a ton of loving, sex, sex, sex in Tropical Depression. I'm surprised that alligator didn't come out of the pool and yell 'enough, boys, take a breather' at them."

Galen and Shane are now almost a family: Shane working as bartender in the club he now owns and Galen trying to find any occasion to distract him and take his man to bed... or in every available place.

But Shane needs something else to be a family, maybe someone to take care of. When Shane starts to be a bit too much involved with an alligator who chose their kiddy pool as new residence, Galen's mother thinks better to give Shane a puppy; Gooper is the new addiction to the family and now Galen has someone else that challenge him for Shane's attention. But Galen can't compete with the puppy, even if they have the same sad brown eyes, and so Galen and the puppy share the time without Shane, trying to cheer each other till night and Shane's return.

Now, don't get me wrong, even if what I described seems a blissful family life, these two are Galen and Shane, the same duo who spent almost all the time in the previous book in bed, and this one is no different: every chapter seems to start with an interesting family scene, but the end is always the same, with Galen and Shane that find one another way to make love... it's almost a marathon, and so I can understand why the puppy tries to steal every free moment of Shane outside the bedroom, since he knows that, one the man is inside that room, he is lost for him.

If you liked the first book and want an easy story, this time without any drama and with two men who seem to have never enough of each other, and a cute puppy to sweet all, this is a nice story.

Galen and Shane are still screwi-…you get the picture. In the second book of the Stormy Weather series, the sex : plot ratio is still in the favor of sex (hot, hot, hot!), but there are moments when the plot makes an achievement for more than six sentences. Which is positive, because you already know everything about their sex life and surely are wondering about their life outside the bedroom (or car, or the bar office…or several other places).

What can I say about Shane and Galen's second book? Hmm, here I go . . .

sex, sex, alligator, plot, sex, sex, plot, sex, sex, puppy, sex, plot, Thanksgiving dinner, sex, sex, sex

I loved it!

These, like Sean Michael's Jarhead books, are not meant for everybody, but if you give them a chance, you'll find lovable characters and humor in between all the sex.
