Pieter Aspe was het pseudoniem van Pierre Aspeslag. Hij studeerde Latijn-Wetenschappen aan het Sint-Leocollege in Brugge. Na zijn humanoria volgde hij gedurende korte tijd de universitaire opleiding sociologie. Hierna werkte hij als magazijnier, verkoper, bediende, seizoenagent bij de zeevaartpolitie, fotograaf, studiemeester, handelaar in brocante, handelaar in wijn en conciërge van de Heilig-Bloedkapel in Brugge. Sinds 1996 was hij voltijds schrijver van misdaadromans.

Pieter Aspe was the pseudonym of Pierre Aspeslag. He studied Latin-Sciences at the Sint-Leo College in Bruges.

Pieter Aspe was a full time writer since 1996. Aspe wrote crime fiction novels with inspector Pieter Van In and D.A. Hannelore Martens as principal characters, who become lovers in the first book Het vierkant van de wraak. Most of the stories are situated in Bruges, Belgium. Next to this series, Aspe also wrote two YA novels, Bloedband and the sequel Luchtpost and two novellas, Grof Wild and De Japanse Tuin.

In 2001 Aspe received the Hercule Poirot Price for his novel Zoenoffer.

The first ten novels of Aspe were made into a TV series called Aspe by VTM (Flemish TV channel). This was followed up by a second and third season, but they weren’t television adaptations of the books. However the storyline of the TV series was further developed under the supervision of Pieter Aspe himself. After the first season of the series Aspe, the number of book sales increased significantly. He has currently sold over 1.5 million books in Belgium and The Netherlands.

His 24th novel Misleid was released in April 2009.

Super spannend weer, dat weet ik nog maar het boek is uitgeleend en de recensie natuurlijk nog in het boek. Wordt dus later weer vervolgd.

Denver Broncos safety Quinton Carter was arrested this past Saturday and is now facing felony charges after a visit to the Texas Station Casino in Las Vegas. Apparently he was padding his bets at the craps table meaning after the dice had been rolled he was padding ‘adding additional’ chips to the bets he had already placed, like source had informed.
Carter denied doing this when police arrived and made an official statement “Regarding the matter that allegedly occurred during a brief trip to my hometown of Las Vegas, I am fully confident that when the facts come out I will be cleared.” Of course as we all know “the eye in the sky” sees everything and security videotaped him adding $5 chips to three bets after the dice had rolled.
I reckon the truth will come out – or more likely the celeb/athlete will settle this under the table and get back to their high-dollar unstructured immature lifestyle … HAH! But wait a second you might be saying $5 chips in addition to the less than luxurious Texas Station doesn’t exactly equate to high dollar lifestyle that we have grown accustomed to with regards to these type of individuals.

Waarschijnlijk heeft de auteur te weinig inspiratie gehad om een echt verhaal over dit casino te schrijven., want het gaat vooral over relatieproblemen, drinken en roken. En ook nog over een commissaris die geheel zijn eigen ding kan doen, zonder echte represailles?

Een leuk boek. Was weeral even geleden dat ik een boek van Aspe had gelezen. Verhaal was wat voorspelbaar. Een beetje een Amerikaanse misdaadverhaal, maar dan op zijn Belgisch.

Typisch, hoe dit soort (goed geschreven) thrillers toch echt "fast food"-consumptieliteratuur is en niet echt beklijft. Dit boek had ik een paar jaar geleden gelezen en bij het opmaken van deze "Collection" had ik geen herinnering meer aan de story en de afloop. Dus herlezen en hoewel een aantal flarden terugkwamen was zelfs de ontknoping in het laatste hoofdstuk nog een verrassing. Toch een leuk boek om tijdens een zomervakantie door te nemen.

Spannend boek Van In op zijn best wel de typische Aspe stijl. Waarbij Brugge natuurlijk in de verf wordt gezet. Een mooi tussendoor verhaal.
