Interesting premise with lots of potential, but in the end it just seemed to fall flat for me. I couldn't feel anything for the characters which, to me, is of the utmost importance when I read a book. I just kept pushing on reading hoping for more...

When I was offered ‘Shimmer’ for review, I jumped at the chance because I had enjoyed Mr. Passarella’s “Wendy Ward/Wither” novels. Overall, I liked ‘Shimmer’ but it felt as if there should have been more information about the Walker family included. ‘Shimmer’ felt more like a second book in the series than the first or a stand-alone. I liked the characters, their odd abilities, and their battle against the darkness. Yet again, while the Walkers have always been shadow walkers closing rifts, there isn’t much said about how this particular evil had interacted with the family before, etc. I hope the author is planning a ‘prequel’ to ‘Shimmer’ which I think will help this book flow a lot better.

This was a brisk YA paranormal story with swords and sorcery set in modern day America.
