Hmm, I actually moved on to book 2. At least this book only had 2 love scenes in it and they weren't doing it every other page. There was more room in this novel for a plot.

I'm getting used to this weird world of Broken Heart, OK, filled with vampires and lycans. This book was told from the perspective of the town librarian. She has a teenage daughter who finds a vampire hunter boyfriend (!) and she is in love with a terribly handsome, ancient, brooding vampire.

Yeh, I'm not sure of the attraction to these domineering, possessive men. Doesn't do a thing for me but sure turns Eva on.

I do own book 3 so I will be moving on!

"The sun weeps because it can no longer caress your skin or warm your lips." He sifted his fingers through my hair. "I do not envy the sun, Eva. But I truly hate the moon, because its light touches you in all the ways I cannot."

Isn't that the SWEETEST thing evah!

description

ahem...so continues the adventures of the eleven people that was turned into a vamp in our dear vamp town Broken Heart Vampires. The second book, however, tells the story of Lor, Patricks identical brother, from book one and Eva, one of the newly turned single parents of BHV.

For first timers, better you read book one and make your way to the top for everything to make sense.

I liked Eva's voice better than i liked the first one. She is more realistic, less annoying, and more calm if not mature than our previous one. Not that i hate Jessica, but compared to Eva, she does feel unreal, and has the tendency to annoy you in the slightest possible way and you get tired of her humour.

Lor is different from Patrick. Lor is more...silent, brooding while Patrick from book one is funny and flirty.

I like the plot, it was fun, intertaining, at the same time full of twists and turns, and besides, Eva's powers are awesome!. I sure don't mind becoming a vampire *grin*.

Off to book three!

ok, at first I will admit that these books had little appeal for me. But as i started to read past the 4th chapter I started to get into it. It wasn't a page turner, but interesting. The characters were spunky and intriging.
Take a Mother turned vampire, A teenage daughter, and a freaky condition and a wounded soul... Yeah thats the gist of the book.
Although the author gives us a whole new twist on vampire romances, I,m still waiting on that great story that i will want to read again and again.

I had to give the author another chance, still even thought the blurbs sound good I just can't connect to her characters. In this book Lorcan is just thrust headfirst into loving Eva,no explanations, no real conversations about why, ditto with Eva. Five pages in and WHAM. I mean in the first book Bardsley got away with it as she introduced the whole magic Fae ring to the mix, but here no enchilada.Maybe that's the way it's suposed to feel, like love at first sight or such but I just don't buy it. I also felt that the plot of the book was very... umm jumpy. Events that seem unlikely happen because, well because. Overall I was disapointed wtih this book, I only kept reading it to avoid studying for an exam, but I couldn't even enjoy it,I feel cheated.

Very funny, and very fast paced! I flew through this book in maybe two hours. Well.. that could also have to do with the somewhat large font. I also skimmed over the little mini short stories embedded in the book. They were written by one of the characters, and I just didn't care lol.

I've been having trouble getting a hold of these books through my library, hence the long period of time in between my reading the first book and this book. We'll see what happens with the next book in the series.

The second in the Broken Heart Oklahoma series, "Don't Talk Back To Your Vampire" tells the tale of Broken heart librarian Eva. Eva was killed and turned into a vampire a few months back, when Lorcan, a vampire suffering from a disease called 'the taint' went on a spree and murdered several housewives and a househusband. These deceased were immediately turned into vampires by a vampire polictical group with plans to take over the town and turn it into a safe haven for all things unworldly. Eva and her 12 year old daughter are adjusting to their new lives, when Eva finds herself with new vamp side effect powers. She has an effinity for animals and they are drawn to her. She is also able to mind read animals that were once human. This just gets her involved in a mess and a power play when the band of Wraiths and even an Ancient want to get to her. Locan tries to protect her but he has his own secrets. This book was a quick, lighthearted read. At times the story is humourous but I think the author thinks she is funnier than she really is. That is unfortunate because from her notes and other things I have read I can tell she is just a fabulous person. I am all for quick, quirky reads but the biggest fault of this series it that the author doesn't do enough description and she leaves things hanging frequently and the reader is expected to fill in the gaps. The basic plot of the series is a winner. The characters, although they too could use some more definition, are good and likeable. I love the kid/parent interactions but there need to be more of them if this series is working the mommy angle. Still, I really enjoyed this one more than the first and I have the next one in my room, ready to be read. I can hope this series will continue to improve. I hope it does because I do see a lot of potential.

This is the first book of this series that I have read (and honestly Jess seems like a more interesting character so I think I would have liked the first book better) so I was real confused with the wraiths, lycans, taint, Roma, and what the difference between all of them are. Confusing. Also, I spotted a plothole/inconsistency in the book and that made me more annoyed with the book.

I found this book very disappointing. It was pretty boring and predictable throughout. It seemed like Michele Bardsley chose the wrong POV for this book, because Eva basically sleeps/is in quarantine/is drugged/is in prison through all the exciting parts of the story..so what was the point! Most of it is other characters explaining what has happened to her. She's supposed to be smart, but the writing and the way she thinks REALLY doesn't reflect that (more confusion..).

I didn't get the romance with Lorcan either.. well until the end when he explains how he came to fall in love with her. There's a tacky dream sequence in there somewhere that is supposed to document Eva's character arc with regards to Lorcan (I think... it wasn't explained). My favourite parts were the stories written by Lorcan about the first and second Master vampires.

To sum up, I had to draaaaag myself through this book. There were characters that I just couldn't get into, plot inconsistencies, constant confusion with new terms being thrown out, unexplained actions by the characters, Eva's unrealistic powers (she bested a 4000 year old vamp just by looking into his eyes and telling him what to do? when she's only a three-month-old vamp? REALLLLYYYYYY?) and oh yeah, I skipped over the sex scene because it's boring and so badly written. Sigh.

I personally did not enjoy this book. As I got to the middle I kept wishing for the book to hurry up and end cause I was really bored with it. I did not read the first book and maybe this is why I was bored with this one. The characters didn't really develop for me. Eva did a little bit, but Lorcan's character was just kind of blah and he was so depressed all the time. At times I would forget that he was even part of the story. Then there is a part where Eva argues with an enemy (won't spoil) but that was kind of un-exciting as well. I was really left with wanting more spark, more romance, more something! I didn't care for the made up words, the Gaelic speak, and some of the thrown in Mythology.
And a good thing to know, is there is a little glossary at the back of the book that explains what the Gaelic words mean, what the made up words mean and some explanation of Vampire lore etc. That would have been helpful to know before I read the whole book. Found it after I finished this book. So overall, thumbs down.

Evangeline is a young single mother who gave up much to raise her teenage daughter. She is an uneducated woman by institutional standards, but as a self taught learner she is a brilliant woman. When she is killed and turned into a vampire her life makes an abrupt turn. She gain some kind of Dr. Dolittle ability and can talk tot he animals. * Yes, there are many jokes there.
Lorcan, the tortured soul vampire, tainted and crazed commits sins he can't forgive himself for. He carries his guilt, never allowing happiness to interfere with it. He may just the ultimate key for the survival of his people when his taint is cured. He feels guilt, and maybe something more for Eve, at the least he owes her protection.
There is danger, action, fighting, budding love, adventure, lame jokes, furry fun, nibbled necks, ancient wisdom, and just pure enjoyment between this cover. This series is like a cold drink of water on a hot day.* Vampire Light* Fun quick and sexy.

I liked this second book in the Broken Heart Vampires series a bit more than I liked the first for some reason. I will go on to read the next book in the series eventually. I think there are about 5 or 6 books in this series now.

I think I liked this book more that the first one because:

a) The backstory had already been set in book 1, so there wasn't so much bouncing around between the current story and why/how the characters got to where they were today
b) The main female character (Eva LeRoy) is a self-taught librarian and she and her daughter use some fabulous words. It stretched my vocabulary!! (I LOVE words)
c) I've bought into the premise of Broken Heart, Oklahoma so now I can just settle in for the ride.
d) I like the love story between Lorcan and Eva. It wasn't as angst ridden as the first book.

If I weren't 'researching' this genre, I would have never even touched this one after the first. This one, while slightly better, stars a heroine who dropped out of high school because she got pregnant. But she loves to read, you know, classics and romance and celebrity biographies. I kid you not. And according to the trashy world of this book, which sadly I'm sure exists, she don't need no fancy paperwork like a high school diploma to prove how much she loves to learn. And all that book learnin' she's done apparently qualifies her as the town's new school teacher. Yeah, this is the type of world I want to imagine existing....I can't wait to get through this series so that I never have to think of it again.

I could not put Don’t Talk Back To Your Vampire down and finished it the day I got it. In this sequel to I’m the Vampire, That’s Why, we get to know some of the other citizens of Broken Heart, and to know them is to love them. This time, the story focuses on Eva, the town librarian who was turned in the first book in the Broken Heart series...

The Second book in the Broken Hearts Vampire Series.

This story centers on the town librarian Eva LeRoy. She is one of the 11 residents of Broken Heart Oklahoma who were attacked that fateful night three months ago and turned into Vampires. Since then the town was pretty much bought out by the Vampires and the Paranormal Society and the New Vamps are trying to adjust to raising there kids and making a life for themselves while learning the ropes of being Undead.

Eva is a single mom (as are most of the residents of the town - they call it Broken Heart for a reason people!) and her and her 15 year old daughter are making the best of the new situation. Part of Eva’s new superpowered Vamp Skills is an ability to attract animals - and apparently talk to & Control shapeshifters. This comes in mighty handy when some strange shifters come to town looking to cause all kinds of trouble. Sadly word gets out and soon the bad guys are really interested in Eva for this skill as well.

Lucky for Eva she has a champion in her corner. The very vampire who rampaged the city and turned so many fine folks into the undead - Lorcan the Loner. But is his interest in her purely motivated out of guilt and a need to make amends - or is there some steamy lusty thoughts under those sad sad eyes? (OH PLEASE - what do you think???)

Another fun book that I just DEVOURED. I loved the vocab lessons thrown in. (Don’t Grex - it’s fun stuff!) It was just a really fun read and I seriously just could not put this thing down. Read it all in one sitting. It was awesome.

And on to the next one....

The Setting — is back to Broken Heart, Oklahoma where the Consortium has moved in, bought up all the property to create a sort of paranormal haven. They sleep during the day and at night – the locals come out!

The Characters — are some returning, like Jessica, Patric, Lorcan, and the werewolves – and you see them in all their former, hilarious glory. Then there are the new ones, like Eva, the main character of this novel. She’s been the towns librarian for some time, a single mother of a teenager. The characters aren’t as continuously funny as they were in the first book, but Bardsley’s writing is still delightful.

The Plot — as I understand, arcs over all of the books. In this novel the focus switches from the love interests of Eva and Lorcan to her daughter falling for a vampire hunter (seriously!) and the growing danger of something else that lurks within their very midst. I love the multiple story lines going on and how it’s all reaching to something that’s probably not even available yet – since the 7th book comes out this fall and there’s a place holder for the 8th.

I’m making myself not run out and get the third book right now because I have a lot of stuff to read still yet.

This installment of the Broken Hart Vampire Series involves Eva LeRoy the town librarian - who I am sad to say isn't the librarian at the end of the book. That saddens me - as I could have really rallied behind a Vampire Librarian!

This book follows with the same themes as Bardsley's first novel - but focuses on Eva. The book does follow up slightly with regard to Jessica and Patrick who were the focus of the first book.

I would imagine every book from here on out will focus on a different new vampire or "Turn-blood" as the ancients call them.

I found it to be an enjoyable fluffy romantic read with blood sucking tendencies! I think I shall be flying through this series as they are quite the page turners.

Onto the next tome!

The vampires are quite different from other author's concept of them. It is a well-developed paranormal universe with great characters. Each vampire line has special skills, and I really loved the heroine's skill of attracting and communicating with animals or shifters in their animal forms. The story follows well from the first book, picking up with another couple, but still letting us know what is happening with the lovebirds from the first book. The enemies were intense in a new way, and the day was saved, but the fight isn't over. There was also some humor that kept me chuckling.

The premise of this vampire book is intriguing, but drags in places. The heroine, Eva, is fairly well developed and her relationship with her human teenage daughter is real. Eva's relationship with the hero Lor seems real on her part, but is flat on his. Since the book is written in first POV of Eva, we never really get a chance at his feelings. The little sex in the book was engaging, but not enough.

The story was worth the read and I loved the exotic words Eva and Tamara, her daughter, used. I will probably give the series another chance in hopes of the writing improving.

Broken Heart Book 2/15
Stars 4.5/5

This is Eva and Lorcan's story
Not gonna lie, I liked this one better than the first one. Almost couldn't put this one down, was able to get into it right away. Plus we got to learn more about the mysterious Lorcan. I love the fact that the author added other languages, unfortunately I don't know them. So it takes me a little out of the story to either look them up in the back of the book or to google it. Same with the main characters word loving quirk. I do love that the author includes most of the translations and definitions but I almost wish it was in footnote format instead...maybe? Like I said, I really enjoyed this book, that was just me nitpicking.

The town of Broken Heart gets expanded a little bit in this book. We got to see how the town is changing into something that the vampires can use. We can see how the town will evolve over the next few books to accommodate the new occupants.

This book, Lorcan was the main character and we learned a lot about him. I enjoyed how Bardsley used snippets of Lorcan’s own writing to give him history and information about his past.

“I do not envy the sun, Eva. But I truly hate the moon, because its light touches you in all the ways I cannot.”

“Do brave deeds and endure.”

For a romcom that I found at my local Savers, this is quite the quotable book. The entire thing was way more than I thought it would be- in a good way. It was like if True Blood and Friends had a baby. The romance was ROMANTIC, baby. Seriously, what were they putting in the water back in 2007? Best era for romance books and I won’t argue about it.

It was cute, same as the first. Though I felt like she made Jessica more unlikable in this one by making her a bit less intelligent and a bit more crude. I had to drop it down to 2 stars instead of 3 because it just didn't keep my attention like the first one even though I liked the main character more.

I loved Eva! When she recalled her Mom’s advice, her ability to forgive and her fierceness of her love for her daughter. I love that animals loved her. Animals can always tell a good or bad person. Lorcan, I liked especially how devastated he was when he had the taint. Loved how Eva tried to help him forgive himself.

This was a good book just not what I expected, this one tells the story of Eva LeRoy and Lorcan. I thought it was going to continue with the original Patrick and Jessica. So I don't know if the rest of the series tells about the others in the group or goes back and forth between them. It was still very good and I really enjoyed it. I look forward to the next one.
