My second Ghosts of Fear Street book, and it was pretty decent, I liked it about as much as How To Be A Vampire.
The story closely follows that of It Came From Beneath The Sink from the original Goosebumps series. A cursed object, in this case, a blue toy monkey, brings bad luck upon its owners. This was a familiar (and even predictable) story but still a fun read. It doesn't go nearly as deep as some of the other Stine books in this niche plotline (i.e., Locker 13 and Birthday Party of No Return), and it feels a bit more kiddish/cartoonish than those; perhaps Winfrey's contribution aids in this sort of generic and formulaic structure. There wasn't much to it that stood out for me, but all the same it's straightforward enough and follows Stine's style of storytelling to where it's still enjoyable.
Overall, about on par with my previous GoFS read, probably a 2.5⭐ Could round it up to a 3 if rating among other middle grade horror. I tend to "pad" or "curve" my ratings a little bit when it comes to children's books like these.
The Tale Of The Blue Monkey from the Ghosts Of Fear Street series is a book I was excited for.The story starts with two kids Amanda and Daniel ,who are being babysat by their babysitter named Bess. The kids seem to enjoy her company.Shes always making delicious desserts and she tells spooky stories. The story she tells tonight is a book about this little girl who steals a toy monkey from this toymaker who apparently lived across the street from there very own house. It turns out the little girl lived in this very house that the kids live in.When the girl stole the monkey The owner basically gave it to her and claimed she was doomed. The reason she gave it to the little girl was because if the monkey is given away it apparently is cursed so it makes bad things happen. But the only way this works is if the monkey is given as a gift. The bad things that happen also start off gradually. The kids are pretty intrigued at this but are startled when a creepy guy pops up at there doorstep. The guy is no harm though as he's just Omar their landscaper who tells the kids he's still trying to get gophers for the kids' dad.The kids return their focus to the monkey and go looking and Daniel ends up tripping over one of the gopher holes finding the monkey inside a box in the process. After this the Monkey curse stuff begins. While Amanda is sleeping she feels something tighten around her neck and it's her blanket and she finds the monkey beside her on her pillow.Amanda ends up coming home and finding her shampoo spilled that looks like blood. She also finds her art project destroyed.I also think she stubs her toe or something minor. All of these end up just being her brother though. And I was pretty disappointed with that. But more happens. The two kids end up Locked in a room with the monkey and decide this thing is the real deal.So they have to find the answers to stop this thing. The Tale Of The Blue Monkey was pretty mediocre in my opinion. There were parts that I swore that I've read before. But i will say I didn't predict who the toymaker was.And this thing did get pretty intense at times and threatning.I give The Tale Of The Blue Monkey a three out of five stars.I also want to point out one of my favorite mystery characters was Mr.Kronk ,a wheelchair bound older man who does some pretty questionable things.
Danny was echt vervelend zeg.
Very mid first half with lots of bland fake outs, way better second half with great twists. I didn’t expect the giant twist that we got near the end, but I did understand a certain characters intentions early on from a scene in the book. The blue monkey is… interesting. I’m glad it didn’t come to life like some NOTLD crap. Had some good scares with it though. Ending was good. 7.5/10
