Mike loves hanging out in his father's weird little museum on Fear Street. It's full of cool stuff -- a guillotine, a mummy, a bunch of spooky wax figures. Mike's favorite is a suit of armor. At least it was his favorite until he saw a pair of glowing eyes inside the helmet. Until the knight lifted its arm and pointed its sword at Mike's chest. Until the knight challenged Mike to a battle. A battle to the death.
Robert Lawrence Stine known as R. L. Stine and Jovial Bob Stine, is an American novelist and writer, well known for targeting younger audiences. Stine, who is often called the Stephen King of children's literature, is the author of dozens of popular horror fiction novellas, including the books in the Goosebumps, Rotten School, Mostly Ghostly, The Nightmare Room and Fear Street series.
R. L. Stine began his writing career when he was nine years old, and today he has achieved the position of the bestselling children's author in history. In the early 1990s, Stine was catapulted to fame when he wrote the unprecedented, bestselling Goosebumps® series, which sold more than 250 million copies and became a worldwide multimedia phenomenon. His other major series, Fear Street, has over 80 million copies sold.
Stine has received numerous awards of recognition, including several Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards and Disney Adventures Kids' Choice Awards, and he has been selected by kids as one of their favorite authors in the NEA's Read Across America program. He lives in New York, NY.
Fright Knight continues the run of awful books in the Ghosts of Fear Street series, and tells the story of a small museum that comes into possession of a haunted suit of armour. The story was okay but very mediocre filler for the first half, but man does this one ever fall apart in the second half of the book. It's pure nonsense, and the author was clearly just making things up as they went along. The ending is also incredibly stupid. And why does the cover art show the haunted suit of armour glowing green from the inside? In the book, it glows red, and this is mentioned many times throughout the story. So even the cover art is bad on this one. It's a terrible book and I definitely don't recommended it.
This book is just pure dumb. Normally, dumb stories that promises something fun with the pay off is what makes typical R.L. Stine stories (although it isn't actually written by him) good enough but this book sets up something okay but how the rest of the story unfolds is just pure dumb and there's little to no logic at all. I assume that the author is just writing this on a whim with all the action that is happening here.
This is a story where something just happens just because.
Wow, the most amateurish writing I've seen in a long time, maybe ever. It departs from horror and instead the story feels very much like adventure and fantasy. It's weird to see the themes of the reluctant hero, the doomed lover, the misunderstood knight, the evil magician all wrapped inside less than 120 pages. Despite the simplicity of the tale, I was confused when this spell ricocheted or that thrust of the sword missed. Goosebumps is the best of all R.L Stine series, this particular one, not so much.
The concept was interesting, but the story itself was executed poorly. It was boring until pg. 50, halfway through the book. I liked the Knight ghost. The setting was uninspired. I was expecting a medieval castle. The protagonist, Mike, was okay. Carly, Mike's sister, was annoying. Mike's Dad was probably my favorite character, because he was funny. I wouldn't recommend it. It's one of the lesser Goosebumps/Fear Street books and probably wouldn't be entertaining to young kids.
I didn’t want to read this one. The cover is bad, the blurb sounded typical, and the reviews were all over the place. But, it’s GoFS, and I needed to read it to complete the series. Making this more fun by doing this back-to-back with Ghost Knight from Deadtime Stories, I went into this one with blank expectations and left utterly baffled by how much I enjoyed this one. The writing is on-point and the author—Connie Laux—cooked real hard with this one. The characters are all genuinely decent and likable, and it makes the partly heartbreaking twist with Mr. Spellman more impactful since he was a genuinely nice person, with hints and context clues strewn about. Our villain reveal slaps and the villain himself overdid what was needed and sold the idea of what they are. No bs, straight throttle. The actual Knight stuff was decent and the resolution to all of that before the book’s end is fitting and refreshing, subverting my expectations entirely for what was to most likely have been an “unfinished business from an evil knight” story. It’s great. Truly. The final chapter is a sweet send-off that didn’t shit the bed (against my fears), the entire book is set at one location, allowing for more on-point storytelling and less fillers, and there’s some great magic/ghost element in here all-in-all. The setting is also very neat, reminding me of The Beast of Skull Rock by Matt McMann. This is easily a must-read Ghosts of Fear Street read, even with its few flaws: the dialogue. A lot of lines in here are utter cheese and didn’t jive with me but weren’t abhorrent enough to deduct much. There’s some light pacing issues and there’s an instance of our hero’s father kind of being stupid in the middle portion, and whilst it’s explained well enough, I can’t help but not entirely feel that it works even with this story, especially from a tonal pov. Overall, 9.5/10. My negatives are really just nitpicks, and this utterly deserves it’s place as an all-time high for the series alongside Fright Christmas, The Ooze (the book after this funny enough), Body Switchers from Outer Space, and then-some. Better than Ghost Knight.

This was a horrible read. Took me 3 months to finish this one. Why must ask. It was super boring, and the second half of the book was terribly written. Not recommended 😕
Granted, there's only so much you can do in a brief YA novella but "Fright Night" felt stale even by its own genre standards. Having inhaled these Ghosts of Fear Street novels to pass a slow week, there wasn't much to recommend most of them, and this one, complete with ghost knight, evil wizard and obvious twist, even ends with a lame fake-out ending that felt more like a weak "Goosebumps" installment than anything else.
I thought this was a good book it is about a kid named mike who likes scary thinks and he gets a armord knight sent from his uncle and some people say its haunted so mike gets exited then one night he hears thumbing its coming from where the knight is then its just his sister playing a prank on him.
I think R.L. Stine should keep Fear Street and Goosebumps two seperate things... The whole mini-series of the "Shadow World" appears like Goosebumps-stuff happening in Shadyside and I expected much more from it. Pro: They are short and quite easy to read.
Bryan Guevara How would you react in a similar situation?
