Pocahantas

The girl is the daughter of King Powhatan, and the Englishman is a white man. And the Indians of Virginia do not want the white men in their beautiful country. This is the famous story of Pocahontas, and her love for the Englishman John Smith.

Tim Vicary

His legal thrillers about a tough British barrister, Sarah Newby, have been compared to the works of John Grisham and Scott Turow. The second book in the series, A Fatal Verdict, was awarded a B.R.A.G Medallion for an outstanding independent novel, and the third book, Bold Counsel, was awarded the Awesome Indies Seal of Excellence. April 6, 2012I'm glad that I read a famous story. I thought Pocahontas was a character of Disney's cartoons. I learned she was real! She died young. It sounds like it is exciting to visit London, but it might be not good to live, such the weather and the crowd.

Read this for work. Going to count it towards my reading goal because why not 🤷🏻♀️
The rating is low because I don’t trust the historical accuracy of some of the events told. I’m sure some of it is factual, but it still read like it wanted to say white people are superior and Indigenous people are prone to violence.
Hoping to pair this reading with something written by an Indigenous author, so my students get a more nuanced perspective on Pocahontas.

انتظار نداشتم انقدر خواندن این کتاب کوتاه طول بکشه
اما به عنوان یه داستان کوتاه حرف های زیادی برای گفتن داشت
نمیدونم نویسنده اصلی کتاب تام ویکتوریه یا داستان رو بازنویسی کرده اما به شدت عقده و انگلیسی بودنش موج میزنه
من شخصا ادم جبهه گیرنده ای در برابر کشور ها نیستم اما طبق اطلاعاتی که درباره ی انگلیس و تاریخچه اش دارم، اینکه چه ادم های کثیفی بودن و چه مقدار استمعارگر بودن، حتی اینکه همین الان ۵۶ کشور مشترک المنافع داره که قبلا مستعمره اش بودن، و اینکه هرجا ردپایی ازش هست نابودی برده از هند بگیر تا ژاپن، یه دیدگاه نسبتا سنجیده ای به اینجور داستان ها دارم.
همون لحظه ای که نویسنده مستقیم تاکید کرد (چشم های ابیش) به نتیجه رسیدم خودشون رو نژاد برتر میدونن.
این داستان متجرای نسبتا مشهوریه اما اگر دقت کنیم و از یه نظر دیگه به ماجرا نگاه کنیم تمام مدت عموی پوکوهانتس درست میگفت و باید اینگلیسی هارو میکشتن و نابودشون میکردن. نه اینمه قتل و نژاد پرستی خوب باشه، بلکه به این دلیل که اونا عملا به خونهشون تجاوز کردن. حتی به خودشون اجازه دادن با وجود شاه اون سرزمین، اسم پادشاه خودشون رو روی زمین هاشون بذارن.
اگر بومی ها حتی یه ذره احساس مالکیت روی زمین هاشون داشتن الان تمام مردم جان اسمیت مرده بودن. اما طبق روایت های تاریخی واقعی در اون زمان بومی ها معتقد بودن زمین مثل مادرشونه و نمیتونن خرید و فروشش کنن. دلیل اصلی ماندگار شدن انگلیسی ها هم همین بوده که اجازه داشتن
یکی دیگه از لحظات داستان که خیلی برام جالب بود اون قسمتیه که پوکوهانتس به جان اسمیت هشدار میده که میخوان بکشنش اما یهوووو میگه تو پادشاه منی😂 خب اگه این دیدگاه کورکورانه ی اینگلیس پرستی نیست پس چیه

We read it in English class and it actually has a very sad ending so if you can't stand sad story endings, don't read it!!! but it was good anyway, except that Pocahontas' husband is different at the end and she doesn't have a child with John Smith :( I don't like John Smith, he was really disgusting :(

Pocahontas is a beautiful and brave American-Indian girl. She fell in love with Englishman John Smith, but he run away. After years later, she married other Englishman John Rolfe. She was the first American woman marry to an Englishman and come to English.

Can people from two different environments and backgrounds work together, or even fall in love and make it work? The story of Pocahontas takes us back in history to a time period when the English first discovered America. The story starts off with John Smith and his Englishmen voyaging to America and onto what Pocahontas and the Indians called their land. Both sides come together to help each other out since the Englishmen need the Indians for resources and the Indians need the Englishmen for weapons. The readers begin to believe that these two groups of people can work together to make living much better. Little do they know, the Englishmen become a threat to the Indians and the Indians feel like they needed to kick the Englishmen away since they were in America first. Even more conflict continues towards the middle of the story when Pocahontas begins to grow feelings for John but John knows this is not right due to the big age difference. Something occurs and John heads back to England leaving Pocahontas wondering about him and their love. In the end, The English and Indians lose some people through violence and Pocahontas is reunited with John but not in a way she or he expected.
I grew up reading about Pocahontas and the history behind the English and Indians. I enjoyed the story and be taught about history while learning about a love story as well. In elementary school and even now, I like when I can try and picture life in the past and how impacts the present. What interested me more was that the story incorporates history and a story together in one. It makes learning more fun when you can learn but still have fun while doing it. This is why teachers should know about Pocahontas. Although the story is outdated and not for the new generation, Pocahontas tells students about history and the discovery of America. Pocahontas can be used in history classes for 3rd grades once they begin learning about the English discovery. Not only that, but Pocahontas adds a little more with the relationship of Pocahontas and John Smith. The text and structure of this particular book, is more advanced with its short chapters, but there are some illustrations within the book that can be used as a visual to students. Pocahontas is a classical story that will allow students to think outside the box and imagine America as if they were the English and Indians.

During staying village, Pocahontas and John talked a lot and became good friends. After he came back to Jamestown, she often visit him. King still wanted their guns, but they refused. One day, Pocahontas said John, "I love you, so I want you as my husband." But John refused, after 2 month, she didn't visit Jamestown. While she didn't came, he was injured by gunpowder accident, so he came back to England to heal. She was told this fact by Jamestown's man and he said John might be dead, so she was really sad. After that, she married other English man and visit to England. Then, she got a letter from John. He was alive. She met him, but she already have husband, so she said him good bye. Soon after, she get ill and died.
This story is very sad. I just feel really hurt inside. At first, I was comfortable because it's a story about friendship between different races. But actually, this is a sad love story. Oxford books likely to be bad end. However, I like it.
