Oh. My. God. Is all I can say! It was prefect, even Toklo was awesome!
I loved seeing more black bears and white bears, and grizzles!
It wasn't a romance book, --nah-nah, Mom!--- it was a sweet story about bears that travel together....it was awesome!
And yes, even adults can read this book! 5*'s!

While I think this has really strong positive messages about being more aware of the other creatures on the planet besides humans, I thought at times it could be overly preachy. I also found Lusa to be somewhat annoying at times. Overall, I enjoy the story though and will continue because I know Tui T. Sutherland helped with this series.

Loved reading about my bear friends again.
Too bad there was no map in the book to follow their journey (the first book in the series did).

I liked the book because they were basically trying to survive and I love books where they have to survive. The story kind of switched like every chapter to a different character, so it was kind of confusing. The white bears stole a black bear, but the black bear got away by other bears distracting the one bear that stole the black bear. This was a great book because I like reading about bears attacking each other. It just interests me. The book is also about how one bear has to survive basicly on his own, because his mom and brother died in the last book. The Seekers series is great, so you should read them.

I enjoyed the Warriors series and also enjoy Redwall series for a similar reason. Seekers seems to have that same element. When you use animals to tell your story you can follow big truths like courage even better than if you are using humans. In Great Bear Lake there are big themes, like courage ,jealousy, abandonment, and faith. Some reviewers dislike the ecological doomsday piece.. but missing polar ice is a fact right? I will probably keep reading about these bears on their journey.

Read this during the semester for comfort because I never finished this series as a kid lol. Then I remembered why: it's cause barely anything happens in these books. I enjoyed the characters and though them all endearing, but there's very little plot until they actually make it to the lake 2/3 through the book. For a kid's book it's not bad, but Warriors was a far better series and I remember why I didn't like this one as much.

High three stars. I would say this book is a bit worse than the first one, but still holds up surprisingly well.

Story-wise, we have focus on things aside from just walking, which is a nice change of pace. The end of the book deals with more inter-bear relationships and drama in one setting, which kept the story fresh and finally stopped the traveling issue book 1 suffered from.

Unfortunately, I do think the characters were weaker in this book. None of them were bad, but in my opinion none of them were quite as well-written as in the last book.
Kallik is still pretty basic, though I do think her wanting to join the others at the end makes sense. She doesn’t really change in this book, which is fine, but that does mean I have almost nothing to say on her.
I think Lusa was the strongest this book. Once again, her naivety makes her endearing, and her motivations are so clear that it doesn’t feel repetitive when she does ‘typical main character’ things. (Like saving people in trouble, always being morally right, feeling like they ‘belong’ somewhere, being super loyal, etc.) I think Lusa was written very well, and she was definitely my favorite this book.
Toklo has some good moments this book, too. His scenes with Ujurak and later on Pawprint Island kept him from feeling one-dimensional, which is what I was really worried about this book. Even his issues with swimming were handled very well. My only issue with Toklo was that when he wasn’t actively being developed, he kind of took a backseat role. Towards the end this was less noticeable, though, so I don’t even think that’s a big issue.
Like Kallik, Ujurak also didn’t change much in this one, but again I don’t mind it. I think him and Kallik staying static while the other two got more focus was a good decision. Sometimes having every character changing all the time can be overwhelming. That said, I do wish we knew where he went while Toklo was on Pawprint Island. He just kind of disappears, so his reappearance feels very much like plot convenience. Aside from that, I hope we get interactions between him, Kallik, and Taqqiq. Right now he has two distinct relationships- one with Toklo and one with Lusa- and I’m hoping that his relationships with the white bears don’t feel the same as either of the others. I hope that each friendship will feel unique so the characters can bounce off each other and keep an interesting dynamic while, inevitably, walking. It’ll also give Ujurak a bit more to do and a bit more, you know, character. He’s not boring by any means, but he does feel unchallenged if that makes sense. I’m not sure how to explain it, but to me it seems like he hasn’t met any hard to overcome challenges so far. I’d like to see him struggle with something, and I can’t remember if he does from my last read-through.
Taqqiq doesn’t do much this book, but I do think his personality change is believable given the time skip from when we last saw him in book 1. That being said, his subsequent flip back felt a bit clunky. I don’t think it was bad, I just feel like it was paced off or written weirdly. I don’t know; something was off about it.

Well, half of this review turned into “what I want to happen next book”, and the rest of my comments were actually pretty positive, too. . . Maybe I like this book more than I thought.
I’ve been pleasantly surprised with my reread of Seekers so far; hopefully book 3 keeps up the streak!

I like this book better than the first, but it has the same issue of a lot of unimportant stuff at the start, then it gets really intriguing. Still, this is something that's worth a read, if you like any of Erin Hunter's work!

Personally, I didn't find this book right for me. I am the kind of person to easily forget what I read. This book is slightly more than 300 pages, and I forgot most of what is in the book.

This book was very well written in my opinion. It had very powerful words that describes the scene very well. I think the author did a very good job writing this book.

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes fiction books. Also, I would recommend this book to any animal kind of person. Overall, I thought this book was okay.

The book overall was a fascinating, and interesting book. It was based off several bears who seemed to have great character development. The plot was also very interesting. The only thing I found dull about the book was at some moments it was very predictable.

Book Review
My book is called Great Bear Lake by Erin Hunter. The age level to my book is ages 8-13. My book is about four bears that adventure to a place called great bear lake. On there way to the lake the bears Toklo, Ujurak, Kallik, and Lusa have many challenges and they don't have a lot of help along the way. They are yet to find the lake but are still searching.
I think the book was really good at separating what character is speaking. And I think that's a very important part of the book. The main idea of the book is determination. Like when all the bears were starving but all of them insisted to keep going and chug along. Toklo was very naive and was strict but really started to warm up during the end of the book. Ujurak was the leader in the sense because he led the way to the lake and was very nice and thoughtful. Kallik was a “new bear” she lived in a zoo her whole life. And Lusa was a little cub all on her own until she finally found the group near the end of the book.
I think this book was a really good book for people who like spirits and animals. And this was a pretty good book all around. It wasn't too hard or to easy it's a little long for my liking but that's about it. I think the author should involve more characters in the book and add more chapters. Other ways this book was a great book and I loved it.

The book was a adventure worth the reading, it took me time to understand what was really going on but I finally did. The end was a little sad because after Kallik found her brother, he didn't even want her around, he could have cared less. But then she made him see what he was doing was wrong and now Toklo, Lusa, Ujirak, Kallik, and Taqqiq are traveling to where the spirits dance and where the ice never melts. This book is very touching about nature. All throughout the book they kept bringing up the fact that the wilderness is changing and food is becoming scarce and hard to find food. This book makes me think that we should try to wonder what the animals have to do to survive, while we push them further out of their territory, we put houses and farms where they use to live, and what do we do to show we care? Nothing, we do absolutely nothing, and when we do, it never will last long enough for animals to feel back at home. We take their fish, their homes, their territory, and raid their lands with our roads and greed for more space. It's wrong and we should learn from our mistakes.

I thought this book was well-written. The characters were more fleshed out and you knew more about them and what they were doing and why they chose to all go to the same place. I really like that they introduced a new bear named Ujurak and how he could shape shift into anything. The only thing that I wished was in this book was a map at the very beginning showing the bears journey like there was in the first book. Overall, it was a very good book and I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a very cute story or anyone who enjoys animals.

As the intended audience is between eight and eleven years old, I am surprised to be enjoying the first two books in the series so much. I am thinking that the quality and depth of the story/writing has to do with the collaboration of multiple authors? I find myself connecting with Luca, and appreciate her kindness and courage. The most interesting bear is the one that shape shifts and I find myself wanting to know more about what he is and how he got his power. I'm looking forward to the next part of the journey.

Overall I think this book was good. It was well written and fun. I had high expectations as I am a big Warriors fan and this book fell short, it was not as engaging as the Warriors series and I was bored in some parts. Some will say it's "preachy" but I don't think it is. I really enjoyed the characters and their personality traits and want to find out more about them. I guess I have the rest of the series for that though. The author limited the plot to global warming so the problem was hard to solve. It wasn't the most satisfying ending/solution but I wasn't too mad about that.

My favorite part was when Taqqiq started to be nice again and defending Miki. My least favorite part was when Taqqiq twas trying to take over the forest from the black bears with his mean friends like Salik. I was so surprised when he was found again, because I wasn't expecting it at all. I really liked the fox friend of Kallik, and I was sad when the fox had to leave. The next book will be the first of the books where all three of the main characters are travelling together.

My kids and I read this book together, and while we loved the story there were times that it is incredibly drawn out. I have found that my stepdaughter loves to hear the story, but not enough to want to listen to it everyday. That makes it seem even longer. However, we enjoy the story of the bears and how each of their journeys has brought than together. It is a good read for elementary students.
