Ashby's interpretation was very true to Anne's character, and presented it in a way that hits the major story beats well enough for a familiar audience to be thoroughly satisfied. I did think that perhaps Marilla's character over-utilized the device of talking to the audience/herself to describe what she's thinking or feeling.

There is a reason that Anne of Green Gables is a timeless classic, and Ashby's adaptation is successful at mediating that into stageplay format.
