EFT PROCRASTINATION ENERGY PSYCHOLOGY PRESS GLORIA ARENSON
As I procrastinated about reading this book in order to write this review (LOL!) I was convicted in several areas of my life. However, the more I read, the more the feelings of guilt and feelings of being overwhelmed subsided. This is a wonderfully written book by Gloria Arenson, a Marriage and Family Therapist, who is an expert in her field. Unlike most other books on procrastination it does not talk about using DayTimer’s and to-do lists. This book deals with the root of your issue and show you how to nip your emotions in the bud.
I will admit that I had to slow down and really READ this book. It is not a book that a reader, who is serious about change, can quickly thumb through. You must take your time and consider the message that it presents. This book will uproot all of your emotional baggage whose funk and debris has crept into your thought life and modified your behavior. Page after page pulled thoughts of past hurts, feelings of unworthiness, and anger about certain situations kicking and screaming onto the piece of paper that I kept close by. The great part about it: the author deals with those feelings with simple steps and explanations on why or where those feelings arose.
One of my favorite chapters is chapter 6: Thinking Doesn’t Make it So. Wow, that is a good point to remember as we travel this road called life. Many of us suffer and lose sleep over thoughts that may or may not be True – with a capital ‘T’. Cognitive distortions, what the author describes as twisted thinking, is the procrastinators culprit of many lost dreams and aspirations. When you travel along life’s journey, day after day, thinking negative thoughts about your situation, you fall into a state of depression. You feel the way you think. It seems almost too simple. So simple, many people have missed it.
I’m a perfectionist! I admit it and even though I am a perfectionist, I love and accept myself. The section on “All or Nothing” was both reassuring and therapeutic. Perfectionists see things as either black or white. I have been, since I was a child, grounded on the mantra, “Do it right, or don’t do it at all.” There is no middle ground, no ‘just enough will do’ or anything of the like. Feelings of anger and/or depression plague my mind when things do not turn out the way I would have wanted them too. This section reminded me that it is OK to not be perfect.
EFT for Procrastination was a very interesting book. There are loads of techniques, invitations for reflection and challenges to gently move you towards success in overcoming procrastination. If you are a procrastinator, like me, pick up this book and start on the road to recovery. Gloria Arenson
Have you ever planned on doing something, but talked yourself out of it? You’re not alone, many people are procrastinators, too. Gloria Arenson has had this exact same problem, and she has written this book to help others by using the EFT, Emotional Freedom Techniques, method founded by Gary Craig.
You have to think positive thought if you want to achieve your goals. For ex., Tell yourself I can do this, and I can be a better person. Through out the book are true stories on normal everyday people who struggle with procrastination. They struggle to accomplish goals and making the proper changes in life. They took the EFT, aka emotional acupuncture, and have made successful changes.
I never heard about Emotional Freedom Techniques before reviewing this book. Techniques are about tapping on certain parts of your body, like under nose, under eye, etc., to step into the energy that flows through your body. I tried this, and honestly, I just didn’t get it. Maybe it takes lots of practice, but I can’t see this ever working on a person. I can understand repeating the positive phrases during the EFT, but can’t a person just close their eyes and repeat the phrases to calm their nerves down.
I enjoyed most the chapters that Gloria Arenson wrote herself and the stories she shared about others. Despite the fact that I didn’t care for the EFT, I still think that a person can get a lot out of reading the book.
Until I read this book I wasn’t aware that procrastination was a medical condition. I knew I put things off in my life, and knew I had to do something about it but I had no idea at all how involved this condition was. I read the book twice began to apply the techniques with hesitation. I am always wary before I try something new, and not from an actual doctor. I am happy to say that I no longer ‘put things off’ and my life has become much more manageable in the process. I have begun, and stuck to, a new health regime that involved sticking to my New Year’s resolution to end a 10-year smoking habit. Once I finally got to the root of my procrastination problem it got easier to follow the book and finally end a life of ‘oh it can wait’, and ‘I’ll do it tomorrow’, and ‘I’ll get around to it eventually’ excuses that were holding me back. EFT for Procrastination is effortless to use and results are easy to achieve. I recommend this book and the others from EFT to anyone I see, or hear about with a problem. Comparing the monetary value of the book to the life value of it’s lesson is useless as it far exceeds expectations.
A fabulous self-help for the self proclaimed “over” or “under” achiever. EFT is a simple, easy to do technique for clearing emotional blockages that prevent you form moving forward. It helps you identify what that baggage stems from and allows you to get ride of it. This book filled with stories, methods, and helpful tools that the layperson can use to change their life is well written and interesting! As an overachiever, I always felt that I could not get things done because “I didn’t have time.” “I am so busy, how can I ever get this all done?’ EFT helped me clear my blockages on this and gave me constructive ways to attack my projects. Now, I am better at looking for and finding the root cause. As a practitioner of acupuncture and herbal medicine, if you get to the root, you resolve the problem.
Worry and compulsive thinking drain your energy. I learned how to put that energy into productive work. This book gives you many answers and helps you in many, many aspects of your life. A lot to” noodle” on…and then put into practice. ISBN978-1-60415-042-1
I read this book because I am promoting the EFT series for the publisher. This book goes beyond procrastination. It also addressed two subjects that are close to my heart personally: perfectionism and OCD. A thorough yet easy to understand approach to EFT.
