In this absorbing novel of the contemporary American West, the fall of the wealthy and dysfunctional King family is played out on Eden--their sprawling ranch estate. It's 1992, and crude oil prices have hit bottom; as a result, the Kings' Eden oil wells are showing scant returns. When the family matriarch learns that she's dying, she names her eldest son the executor of the estate. However, his plans for the family holdings may drive his siblings to murder.
This was a good story about a mega-dysfunctional family which seems to have a dynamic that I went over my head, but I stuck with it to the end, which had an ending twist that struck me as pretty lame.
