This is not a learning aid I would recommend without the help of any actual ASL I class, or ASL tutor. Like any language, ASL is best practiced with someone that knows what they're doing, and despite the efforts of the video to clarify certain words and phrases, it's really best to take a class and follow along with the workbook.

Although I love learning ASL and this does have a good amount of the vocabulary that we learned in class, the book is dated. The videos look old, many of the signs have changed (some of the racial signs in this book are derogatory...yikes!), and the lack of English underneath each vocabulary term makes it harder to know exactly what the sign means because some of the pictures are vague.

This was my textbook for the first semester of my ASL class. It is clearly written, well-organized and informative. The accompanying DVD was also quite helpful since it is best to see the vocabulary and grammar structure being used in context.

This is the workbook and video cassette set.
I found it basically worthless---the video is totally silent! I was expecting to have them signing while speaking what it means aloud. And it did not even go along with the workbook! If I could rate as zero stars, I would

This was okay in comparison to my earlier books in ASL during my college years. Although it did come with a video that helps you to learn how to "listen" better.

The DVD that came with this book was very helpful.
