I love this cookbook! I made the Goulash and it was fantastic, easy to make too. I think this cookbook will be a long-time favorite in my home!
I highly suggest you get a copy for yourselves!!
On my recommendation list.

The recipe called for tomato sauce in a can, or tomato juice. I used real tomato sauce, my family makes every year. Also it calls for canned mushrooms... I used fresh. Heck, I used fresh everything! That's the way to go!

I really enjoyed this cookbook. There are so many recipes that it was hard to decide which one to try first. I like that the recipes are simple and make filling dishes which are perfect for feeding a family. The spiral binding on the book makes it lay flat so you don't lose your page while following a recipe. A bonus is the short writings included at the beginning of each section that tell about the different Amish groups, which I found to be interesting. Great cookbook that covers everything from soups, to main dishes, to desserts. I especially have enjoyed making homemade jelly from this cookbook!

Some great recipes, but being new to Amish foods, photographs of the end result would have been incredibly helpful.

I believe it was in 2007, when author of Amish Christian Fiction Wanda E. Brunstetter brought us the Amish Friend's Cookbook. And now as of July 2009, also from Barbour Books and Wanda E. Brunstetter we have the second volume available.
With a good 200 recipes this cookbook provides with plenty of new things to add to your kitchen repertoire. I love the chapters that each tell you varying tidbits of Amish counties in multiple states. Probably for myself, if I had to choose a favorite chapter, it would be the beverages. I always get so bored with just water and there are only so many flavors of tea, but here you can learn Holiday Punch, Lemon Shake-Up, Amish Wine (alcohol free FYI), Homemade Hot Chocolate and several more. Love that!
