For my little boy who is a train aficionado, this book was a hit! I love the author as she takes the initial illustration on the introductory page and dives into the scene, explaining different types of trains and their functions. The book offers some varieties of trains, such as monorails, freight trains and elevated trains in cities. This is a great book to teach children city vs country comparisons and contrasts.

The book Trains by Anne Rockwell is a very short and easy read for younger children. This is an informational text for children and talks about types of trains and how they work. This book is an easy read with short text and large pictures that take up the entire page. The illustrations are very blue and a little dull because the author wants the reader to focus on the simplicity of the sentences.
The illustrations cover the entire page and the illustrator uses water colors and bright colors to capture the young readers attention. The illustrator uses thin lines and vertical lines which indicates stability and height of the trains. There are also a lot of diagonal lines which means motion and movement of the trains and people running to get the trains. This book is used to inform children of different types of trains and learn something that they can use in the everyday world. The text went along with the illustrations extremely well which is good for young readers to understand. This was a fun read because it was information, and had a clearly defined setting.

We got a train book bundle from the library last week, so it has been all train books all the time at my house lately. My son likes this book a lot because there are tons of trains to point out, and they are clearly and obviously trains (as opposed to other books in the bundle that have more abstracted train images).
The one weird thing is that this reads like a little kid non-fiction book with basic train facts, and yet the illustrations feature foxes instead of people. I find it a little odd to use foxes when the foxes aren't actually characters in the story. I do like foxes, though, so I guess I am on board.

A great book for preschoolers and younger. The illustrations are adorable and the simple language was easily repeatable my my 3 yr olds. No educational value except for reading and instilling the love of books in your child! Highly recommended for the smaller children.
