Bob Dylan is popular music's most celebrated poet/singer/songwriter - a legend, a maverick and a superstar who has rarely given away much about his personal life. Now comes 100 Songs & Pictures, a truly unique collectable book about the man, featuring the full sheet music of his most important songs plus the intimate stories behind them - all accompanied by 100 rare photographs.
Peter Doggett has been writing about popular music, the entertainment industry and social and cultural history since 1980. A regular contributor to Mojo, Q and GQ, his books include The Art and Music of John Lennon, a volume detailing the creation of the Beatles’ Let It Be and Abbey Road albums; the pioneering study of the collision between rock and country music, Are You Ready for the Country? and, most recently, There’s a Riot Going On: Revolutionaries, Rock Stars and the Rise and Fall of 60s Counter-culture.
Because all of these were in cellophane in the bookstore, I wasn't exactly sure what was in it. But, as a Dylan fan, I trusted I would like whatever it was. It is a very hefty book of great photographs (probably 100 like the title suggests). 100 songs lyrics and sheet music for all of the songs, which I'm guessing is why it was locked up pre-purchase. If I were a musician this would be great. Ah well, maybe I can get one of my musician friends to strum Dylan for me. Also in the book are tidbits about the songs and quotes by Dylan and Co. about each song. Interesting to read through and look at. Wish I were a musician.
Братская могила переводов и вариаций на темы песен Дилана, изданная весьма помпезно. Непонятно, зачем, я в ней тоже поучаствовал (но не всем и не лучшим). Ничего хорошего от издателей пока не дождался.
