Ancient prophecy holds that 12/21/2012 will bring a global cataclysm. Mankind’s only hope lies with the Nightkeepers, modern magic-wielding warriors who must find their destined mates and fulfill the legends to defeat the rise of terrible Mayan demons.

All his life Lucius has been an outsider. He yearns to be strong, to be a warrior like the Nightkeepers. And when the Prophet’s magic begins to change him, Lucius finds himself becoming the sort of man he’s always wanted to be.

Held back by her lack of a warrior’s magic and the strictures of her bloodline, Jade longs to break out of her supporting role. Determined to prove her worth among the Nightkeepers at any cost, she won’t let anything stand in her way—especially petty matters like love.

When Lucius and Jade are charged with rescuing the Mayan sun god from the underworld, they ignore their growing attraction. But unless they can confront their demons and accept that love isn’t a weakness, even destiny might not be able to save them.

I have really been enjoying Jessica Anderson's Nightkeeper series and love seeing the Nightkeepers (a group of warrior/mages descended from Mayans) find love as they try to stave off demonic forces and keep those evil beings (both human and supernatural) from bringing about the prophesied 2012 end time.

Anderson again brings her impressive amount of research and detail about all things Mayan to bear, as we finally get the story of the geeky and formerly possessed Lucius. I have felt sorry for Lucius in the past books and was happy to get his story here which starts with Nightkeeper librarian, Jade, deciding to 'take one for the team'. Jade hopes that sex with Lucius will be the key to unlock Lucius' ability to find 'the Library' and the gain access to the much needed information that the Nightkeepers necessary to fight their enemies and save the world.

Lucius in Demonkeepers has undergone a metamorphosis, no longer is he the gangly intellectual, Lucius' time with the demon has triggered a change in his body (he's now totally hunk worthy) and brought a dangerous edge to his attitude. But behind the dangerous exterior still lies the scrawny nerdy teen who was a disappointment to his brawny athletic family. Jade has her own feelings of unworthiness to deal with, since her Nightkeeper powers haven't manifested yet. The pair are quite perfect together and their chemistry is good, the real trick is getting over the baggage from their last attempt at a relationship- Jade just wanted to be bed buddies and Lucius was the type to lead with his heart.

I really likes Demonkeepers, I really liked Lucius and was happy to see that, despite how tough he starts out with Jade and the new packaging, that the core of what made him appealing, is still intact. And I still like all of the Mayan mythology that flavor this series and I liked the background story to save 'the sun', even though with all the build-up of the fate-of-the-world-hanging-in-the-balance the actual resolution to this was awfully quick and easy.

Jade Farmer of the Harvester line is finally getting the front line position. Not exactly as a warrior, since she's supposed to be a scribe talent, but she's on for the booty-action. Her one-time lover, occasional demon-vessel, and all around rather nice, if a little too academic, guy Lucius Hunt needs a boost to reach the Nightkeeper library, and sex magic just might do the trick.

The problem arises when Jade sets eyes on Lucius. Gone is the geeky, gawky, nerdy boy. There's a hunky, ripped, all around hot man in his place, a stranger with a friend's eyes. A stranger that is more than a threat to Jade's peace of mind, since one look at him makes her want to forget her "friends-with-benefits" mantra. Lucky, or not, for her, there's no time to think about how Lucius filled up, when problems keep on piling, coupled with danger, a Xibalban trick to take over the world, and the truth about her family and her roots...

This was yet another great installment in Ms. Andersen's Final Prophecy series, but unfortunately there were too many issues combined between the hero and heroine to let that greatness and awesomeness truly shine.
I've never seen (or read about) so many issues and hang-ups in one book. And I know those same issues and hang-ups made Lucius and Jade all the more realistic - people in the real world are flawed and make mistake upon mistake - but when those issues could (and should) have been resolved, the hero pulled a "template heroine act", the resolution blinked out of existence, and the issues started to get really annoying.
Lucky for me, this is Romancelandia we're talking about, and all we needed was some seriously perilous situation for Lucius to see reason. Finally! And men say we women are complicated and impossible to understand.

The story more or less revolved around Jade and Lucius, their struggles with themselves, their emotions, their feelings, their complexes...blah blah blah, so there wasn't that much time for some serious action as in the previous three books. But what there was, more than compensated for the abundance of before-mentioned issues.

I felt the ending was a bit rushed, and more questions arose than were answered, but that's why this is called a series.
I'm slightly disappointed the next book will be about Patience and Brandt, though, because I don't particularly like the chick, but I hope the author will redeem the blonde.
And I really hope Rabbit's girl turns out to be a villain, because I don't like her either, and all her nagging about him finding the truth about his mother. Seems a bit shifty to me...And on the Sven front (though we don't get to see much of him, except in battles), I really hope he'll get his story soon.

Anyway, a little too many issues for comfort, taking the spotlight slightly away from the main story and the action sequences.

Several months ago a makol (demon) tried to permanently posses human Lucius Hunt but the Nightkeepers were able to save him before the possession was complete. He is now living at Skywatch (Nightkeeper compound) and is still fighting the nightmares of his attack. But he doesn't have time to dwell on that now. When Lucius' soul was returned to his body it came back as a prophet which the Nightkeepers desperately need. Each passing day is one day closer to 2012 and a possible war that would see the rise of demons and the Banol Kax, the lords of the underworld. The problem is Lucius has no idea how to call up his prophet powers. Sex magic is what the Nightkeepers use to help call up their powers and this is where Jade comes in.

Jade is not thrilled about being asked to be Lucius' booty call (her words) but not because she doesn't have feelings for him but rather she does and refuses to admit it. Five month ago they had a brief yet intense sexual encounter that sent Jade running. She is tired of being in the background and wants stand proud as a warrior. She will let nothing hold her back from proving herself not even her feelings for Lucius. But after their encounter she begin to fall for him but it may already be too late. Now is not the time for them to think about where they want their relationship to go. The sun god Kinich Ahau is being held prisoner in the underworld and if they do not free him, their chance of stopping the rise of the Banol Kax will be near impossible.

Lucius and Jade have been two characters that blended into the background in the previous books. They were there but never really stood out or in Lucius' case, just got themselves in trouble. In Demonkeepers Lucius is now physically stronger and is not as timid as he once was. He is going to fight and do everything he can to prove he can be a useful tool in the fight against evil. Jade's main responsibility has always been to the Nightkeeper archives but wants to be out fighting with the others and have magic of her own. Both of these characters are missing something but when they come together they fill in the missing pieces. They are just both stubborn and need more convincing.

I enjoy Jessica Andersen's books because even though it is set in our world, she still make it her own and you can actually picture the way her characters and dimensions look by the way she describes them. One issue I have is all the detail she puts into them. It isn't a bad thing but it can definitely be confusing at times. There are a lot of entities, places, back stories and people and it becomes so much that it all starts to blend together and you lose track of exactly what is what or who is who. Other than that, Demonkeepers shines the spotlight on two of my favorite characters from the series and is filled with suspense, action, romance and comedy. If you want to read this book you could choose to read first but I suggest to go back and start from book one, Nightkeepers, because there is A LOT you will miss out on.

The last time I checked in with Andersen's The Final Prophecy series was back in 2010, when it was still being referred to as Nightkeepers. 2012, the mythical Mayan apocryphal fulcrum upon which her series rests, has since been and gone, which has the unfortunate effect of letting a bit of the air out of her plots. I mean, we all knew the world wasn't really going to end 12/21/12, but you could at least suspend disbelief on the remote possibility that it might right up until dawn of the 22nd.

Unfortunately, Demonkeepers has little going for it other than its ability to move Andersen's overarching plot forward. Our leads, Lucius and Jade, hook up within the first 40 pages, which seems jarring if you haven't read their backstory in the previous novels. And if you haven't - well, all you're going to learn here is that Jade is buttoned down, and Lucius got buff. The end, move along, nothing but Mayan sex magic to see here!

Andersen, like J.R. Ward, specializes in uber-Alpha males, so if being towered over and glowered at (while being scrupulously respected because this ain't the 1980s) is not your thing you'll probably need to look elsewhere. Readers interested in the series should start back at the beginning and avoid jumping in midstream, because I cannot imagine that any of this would make sense even with the ten-page glossary the author includes at the end. Stripped of its gimmick, Demonkeepers is passable but not exactly a keeper.

I liked Jade and Lucius (and most of the other characters, although I'm developing a strong dislike for Anna). The world-building doesn't make much sense but I find it entertaining anyway. I do think this series would be 500 times better with tighter editing, though. I found myself pondering, while reading, what percentage of expositionary info-dumping would need to be cut for me to actual read each page instead of skimming most of it. My conclusion: you could take out 100 pages, easily, and clarify meaning while picking up the pace.

This book simply ROCKED! It was filled with emotional turmoil, sexy sizzle and tons of action. The character ARC of Lucius was so well done.

I had a hard time putting it down. I can't wait for the next one in the series

In order to jumpstart Lucius’s Nightkeeper Library connection, Jade offers to try sex magic with him. It works but instead of the library they both get sucked into a strange valley in the in-between. And it turns out the Library and how to use it are not what anyone expected.

I was not very happy about the situation between Patience and Strike (and Brandt). If I were her, I would have immediately said goodbye and left the whole group to set out on my own. But then she had something to do first.

Fave scenes: Lucius and Jade getting dressed just in time, the Nightkeeper Ouija board, Jade’s explosive ‘accident’ and Rabbit helping Jox with the boxes.

I read this about a decade ago so I am entering my notes from then.
Jade has not found her magic. She is from a line with very weak powers and supporting powers. She yearns to be a warrior. She finds out her mother was from the Star line, one of the most powerful. She must work with Lucius, a human who is their prophet and needs to unlock his abilities.

Of course, the dreaded date of December 21, 2012, has passed, so the Nightkeepers have obviously succeeded in saving the Earth. But I still want to know what they had to do to achieve that goal, so I will keep reading the books. 4 more to go, and if they are all this good, I will enjoy that journey very much.

This part of the series focuses on Jade, the Nightkeepers librarian and spellcrafter. So far her magic is weak, she is the only one without the warriors mark. She wants more for herself than always being in the background, but her winikin has always stuffed her with duty and diligence, and tries to hold her back. But Jade knows she can be more. She needs to be more to help the Nightkeepers. So far, after six months, the human Lucius has not found his magic needed to open the Library after having undergone the Prophet spell. Of course he is happy that he is no longer possessed by the evil makol, and that he seems to be growing in his body. Finally he is looking like the jock his father and older brothers are, instead of the geek he is.

And so Jade offers the King to try sex magic with Lucius. It is not as though they never had sex before, even though that one time was not only awesome but also very disastrous. It could help both of them to find or enlarge their powers.
At first it seems to work, but then the magic takes them to the Underworld, where they witness the sungod Kinich Ahau being held prisoner by the makol. They plan to sacrifice him at the next solstice, and put Akhenaton in his place. Somehow, there was still a god left on earth, and they would have to free him. The Nightwalkers would need him in the coming fight.
Then the magic brings them back to Lucius’ cottage, only to whisk them away again. But this time, Jade ends up in the barrier, and Lucius in the Library he has been looking for. Only getting back might not be so easy. Nor is returning again, especially with the warnings his predecessor left him.
Jade meets her ancestors in the barrier, and gets some conflicting advice. But her powers are growing, and she is determined to pursue her relationship with Lucius. Only he seems to have second thoughts now, having been rebuffed by her all those months ago. Does she only want him for his new buff body? His new powers? Or does she really love him, and can he admit to his feelings for her? After all, the thought of her kept him sane, all those months captured in the Between.

Anna is determined to live the best life she can have in the remaining two and a half years, she is convinced that the Nightwalkers cannot succeed. There should have been hundreds of them to fight the demons, not just the handful of warriors they are! And she never wanted her seer powers, so she cannot help them either. Strike is of course not happy with this, but he cannot force her.

Rabbit is up to something, his girlfriend has put the thought in his head, that he wants to find his mother. Perhaps not all of the Xibalba are evil, like Iago and his cult of followers. The Nightkeepers do personal bloodsacrifices to raise the magic, but the Xibalba sacrifice others.

Time is running out, they have to find access to the Library again, and they will have to free Kinick Ahau. The Nightkeepers will have to do all in their powers to achieve those goals.

Again, a totally fresh story. I enjoyed the fact that their enemies did not really show up this time, apart from one scene. I really loved Jade and Lucius together, I have had a soft spot for them since the first book. I am not so sure what to think about Lucius body changing like that though. Is he a Nightkeeper after all?

Patience is getting tired of being separated from her children. She wants to see them, to know for sure that they are safe, but Strike won’t budge. His priority is to keep the boys safe, and not to make Patience happy. The relationship between Patience and Brand is deteriorating as well, as it seems that Brand keeps choosing Strike’s side in this. And so Patience sets out to find out her children’s location on her own, doing whatever she needs to do to find them.

A lot of story threads, and I can’t wait how it all will play out. I really love this series. Even though they are all working to the same goal, to stop December 21, 2012 from being the disaster for the world and humanity as is prophesied, every story is different. If you want to start reading this series, do so in the right order. You will miss out on a lot otherwise, even though you can read it for the romance part alone. It is the awesome use of mythology in this book that captivates me, the action and of course the finding of love. Love is the most important thing in the universe, not power, and is needed to win the war.

9 stars.

Why I read: The author asked for a review.

Favorite Quote: Lust slammed through Jade revving her system from zero to holy shit in two seconds flat.

In two years and six months, the barrier separating earth from the demons of the underworld is set to disappear. The Banol Kax are set to up rise and bring an apocalypse. This is where the Nightkeepers come into play – they are to protect humans from this devastating event. The fourth book in the Final Prophecy series features Lucius and Jade. Lucius is not a Nighkeeper, but in a previous book a demon invaded his body, and as part of the exorcism, they tried to turn him into the Prophet, so he could gather more intel for them. In order to kick-start his powers the Nightkeepers think he needs to invoke sex magic, which means Jade is in for a bootycall. Jade and Lucius have a previous history, even have had sex – until the demon took over and Lucius has gone through an extensive recovery period.

All is for the fate of mankind, so they put aside the awkward feelings and move forward with the smexin’! First on the agenda, is to try to get into the library, a magical place which hopefully holds key information to their upcoming battle. Lucius is frustrated he can’t get into the library – he has tried everything, and now sex is his last option. The Lucius that Jade meets now is physically different. Muscled, tall, broad – a true warrior. She realizes the Prophet spell must have had some effect, with such a drastic change in him.

Meanwhile the Banol Kax want their own sun god in the place of the the rightly god, Kinich Ahau. In nine days during the summer solstice, they are going to put their god in his place. In order to further the Nightkeepers cause and stop the sacrifice of the sun god – Lucius and Jade must answer the question - is it sex that unlocks these powers or love?

I enjoyed Demon Keepers and the world Jessica Andersen is building. First let me say, this is the first book I have read from this series and  I definitely would have benefitted from reading the previous books. Once I discovered the glossary at the the back of the book, I felt I had a much better grasp of the world.

I love the relationship between Lucius and Jade and the action and adventure in this book, but before I go into more detail I first have to say the one thing that held me back throughout the book. Too much information and too much detail. This is a complicated world set up, with lots of players – both bad and evil and lots of things happening. I could barely see straight during the first twenty-five pages. I just wanted to get started with Lucius and Jade’s story and have the important past events fall into place. Instead we get massive information overload and it made the story very hard to get into. I found this overly descriptive phrasing happening throughout the book.

However, diving through that – we have a great romance and a really fun story. The relationship between Lucius and Jade is a beautiful one – and although complicated outside forces are coming at them, their intimate relationship is really quite simple. It takes them some time to truly admit their feelings, but at the same time, they let it happen. They roll with the punches – they both have scarified so much for the greater good, I think they are expecting a much harder road to true love than what is presented to them.

The world Jessica Andersen has created is really cool. I wish I had read the previous three books, I think I would have appreciated it much more. Besides the romance, she has several other Nightkeeper characters, all with their own problems and issues to deal with. Very unique characters that were a lot of fun to read about. She also advances the story to the eventual 2012 deadline, and I am very interested to see how this is all going to end up.

Finally, there are several times I laughed throughout this book. Many smart-ass comments and humorous moments mixed in with stressful trying times for these characters makes it a fun read. Take out the overly descriptive and excessive information, and Demon Keepers is a solid mix of romance and action that makes for an enjoyable read.

My Review:
The two misfits...Jade & Lucius.

In the NightKeeper world, sex magic is one of the most powerful ways to channel magic (another reason why I like this series so much.) Lucius is a human, but has been chosen by the Gods to act as a prophet for the NightKeepers. The problem...he's having issues accessing his gift. Jade is a scribe within the NightKeeper world, but her own powers have been less than impressive. They have a history of one amazing night full of scorching sex. That was 6 months ago and things have changed a lot in the interim, but when the NightKeepers call Jade back to Skywatch to see if a bit of sex magic can help Lucius out, she decides that she can take one for the team. That's the way that this book starts out- oh, and the shocker that the Lucius she left (the lean, geeky one) has been replaced with this huge, buff, sexy guy with the Lucius that she could have fallen in love with inside him.

Yep, chapter 1 and I was in love with this book! Lucius and Jade are the misfits of the group. He's human and has no magic. She's a NightKeeper, but her magic is basically non-existent, but the two of them together are perfect. I love how they read each other and how well they know each other. They both have huge insecurities, but they recognize that in each other and know how to bolster each other up. They make an amazing team and the longer that they work together, the more powerful and self-confident that each of them become as individuals. They mesh together just perfectly.

Lucius has issues because he was all-in when they hooked up the first time, but Jade shot him down. She was a therapist before coming to SkyWatch and has seen too many women lose themselves for the sake of "loving" a man and vows that she will never fall into that trap. But as their relationship develops, they change rolls which means that they have a lot of issues to resolve...while trying to save the world. ;o)

A great book with 2 wonderful characters. Out of all the NightKeepers, I think that these 2 are my favorite couple (so far...)

Jessica Andersen has done it again! Demonkeepers is an emotional metamorphosis where the characters, once cocooned, develop into beautiful iridescent butterflies. The fourth book in her Novels of the Final Prophecy series is a fun, exciting, sexy, action-packed read that sucks you into the world of the Nightkeepers. If this book is your first introduction to the series, never fear, because this read will leave you wanting more. Though it's part of a series, you, the fledgling Nightkeeper lover, will not be left wanting. It references the first three books and gives tantalizing clues of what came before this moment, but it does not spoil them.

Lucius and Jade's journey was phenomenal. They went through changes in each book from tentative and somewhat introverted learners who were eager to please into strong and confident individuals who are comfortable in their own skin. You, the reader, will feel every emotion, try to make every decision, take every breath the characters take, face all the obstacles, and sit on the edge of your seat. When reading this book, the "now" falls away and you forget you are just a reader. You become a living, breathing character in this wonderful new world created by Andersen.

I LOVED Demonkeepers! It is the best book in the series so far, but then again each of the previous books held that same title for me. It just gets better and better with each book. Once you read one of the Novels of the Final Prophecy, you will thirst for more. The journey begins with Nightkeepers, followed by Dawnkeepers, then Skykeepers. Jessica Andersen is a phenomenal weaver of tales so powerful and real. Her characters come alive on the page. The Nightkeepers and their winikin are a wonderful group of characters and I am very excited to be on their journey of discovery and ultimately, their triumph.

This could very well be my favorite of the series so far :)

My review can also be found on my blog Collections.

In Demonkeepers, the Nightkeepers must find a way to access the library of their ancestors in order to acquire knowledge of new spells and prophecies. Their only hope in finding the library is with Lucius. A human who has the Prophet's power lying within him. However, after rituals and blood sacrifices fail, it is decided that another type of magic should be used to try and awaken Lucius's powers. Sex magic. Although not having seen Lucius in months and not truly knowing the status of their relationship, Jade, who is tired of being on the sidelines, volunteers.

Demonkeepers is the second book I've read in Jessica Andersen's "Final Prophecy" series. From reading Nightkeepers, there were some characters that I wanted to know more about, like Rabbit, Sven, Cara, and Jade. When I realized the fourth book was Jade and Lucius's story, I was very intrigued and couldn't wait to get started.

I must say that I really enjoyed the book. I liked Jade and Lucius. They were great characters, and I could easily connect with them. Both wanted to do more than what they felt they were actually capable of doing. Even though there were times where I was frustrated with them because they kept pulling back from each other, I thought they had an interesting (and hot) relationship. I was glad when they both began to realize that magic was not the only answer. And I was definitely rooting for them till the very end.

After reading this one, I can't wait to read the rest of the books in the series. Thank you goes out to the author, Jessica Andersen, for sending me a copy of the book! :)

I really like this series. Jessica Andersen has obviously done her research! This book was the first one where I got the sense that one of the characters actually BELIEVED in the pantheon they are supposed to represent/worship. Jade seemed to really trust the Gods and when we caught a glimpse of Strike's alter room, I truly felt like I was getting a peek at a holy place. Not an ancient site where people once worshiped, but a current day belief/religion. The "sun God's game" was really intense and I loved that she's tied in The Heretic King, Akhenaten, from Ancient Egypt. It's hard to look at him as a villian when I've always kind of liked him (even though he was a little out there!) ;)

Side rant ~ I hate that this series might end up like many series do; as more books keep coming out, the author has to spend more time updating the secondary character's plots and can't focus as much time to the primary character's plot. By the end of the Darkyn series by Lynn Veihl, there was so many details to tie up with everyone else that the main couple the book SHOULD have been focused on kind of got ignored. I hate to compare two completely different series/authors like that. And I sure hope my hunch proves to be unfounded.

Demonkeepers
3 Stars

In one word - disappointing.

The world building based on the countdown to the Mayan Apocalypse is one of the most compelling aspects of this series. Unfortunately, in this installment the ongoing conflict with the Order of Xilbalban and the Banal Kox takes a back seat to Jade and Lucius's personal angst.

Lucius is an intriguing character in the first three books but his own story falls flat. The plot revolving around Lucius and Jade coming into their personal magic and discovering their value to the Nightkeepers is slow and repetitious. Moreover, the romance is lackluster without the passion and intimacy of the couples in the previous books.

The subplot involving the search for the Nightkeeper library has potential but is underdeveloped and the buildup toward the climax is excessively detailed (who really cares about Mayan ball games?). That said. the climax and resolution are well written and exciting, and somehow manage to leave the reader satisfied despite the book's shortcomings.

Patience and Brandt's book is next. Little is known about them other than the fact that they met and married before the series begins but I look forward to finding out more about them.

In Demon Keepers, we now get to know a lot more of Jade, the quiet librarian of the Nightkeeper crew. Ever since Lucius, Anna's grad student, found his way to Sky Watch, Jade and Lucius have skirted with being a couple. But his whole demon possession derailed things. Or so we thought. Actually, it was Jade that derailed things because she is the commitmentphobe in this book.

Honestly, at this point, I can't WAIT for Brandt and Patience (Blood Spells), the already married but very rocky mated couple. The reason is that every couple since Nate and Alexis have the same problem. And honestly, it is tiring. In this case, Lucius wanted Jade from the first, but Jade was afraid to love. Now, Lucius is back from his demon possession with a hot new Nightkeeper worthy body, and suddenly Jade can't resist him. But Lucius has decided that now, despite a LIFETIME of acting different, he is going to play hard to get. Honestly, even me, a fan and a strong believer in suspending reality for a beloved series, had a hard time with this premise.

Just finished reading the 4th book of Jessica Andersen's Final Prophecy Novels, and I must say this series is getting more and more intriguing with each book. (For me, it's almost like watching LOST - I'm enjoying the hell out of the journey but at the same time holding my breath just trying to figure out how it will all end.) This particular novel tells the story of Lucius and Jade (however we do get plenty of action from the other Nightkeepers)two of the more cerebral pairs in the group. As a romance I found Demonkeeprs exceptionl; it was on point with both Jade and Lucius finding their way to each other as well as finding their place in the 'final prophecy'. Jessica Andersen is pretty terrific when it comes to action sequences and building tension. She never misses when writing them. She has an amazing imagination and is able to paint these wild pictures with her words. There is a particularly cool basketball game that goes on in this book - and all I have to say is - Jessica??? How did you ever think that one up?

According to Mayan doomsday prophecy, 12/21/12 marks the end of the world in a global cataclysm that can only be prevented by the Nightkeepers, magical warriors enlisted to fight the rise of the underworld demons. To fulfill the final prophecy the Nightkeepers must find their mates, but when Lucius and Jade are charged with rescuing the Mayan sun god, they try to ignore their growing attraction. Unless they can confront their own demons and accept that love isn't a weakness, even destiny might not be able to save them...

Okay first I have to say this book held so much information that I was glad for the small breaks my kids were offering me to take in what I read. There are times when I feel Andersen is giving me to much description and yet I know that I have to have all the description to get the full story. I have honestly looked forward to Jade's story. Her and Lucius I love. I know there are more stories to come but I really wanted Rabbits to be next. I am losing patience with Patience and Brandt, who only played a small role in this book

In Demonkeepers, Lucius and Jade were the main characters, and Andersen continues to let all the other members of the Nightkeepers play important parts in the storylines. Lucius, who in the first book was a geek, who worked for Anna at the University, but after having been possessed by a makol demon, he has totally changed physically and mentally in this book, very much like all the other Nightkeeper warriors.

Jade feels she is destined for more then being a lower level bloodline (Harvester-researcher), and wants to be a warrior like the other woman. She has feelings for Lucius, and this increases over time, as well as Lucius coming to the understanding that Jade loved him as a Geek or a Warrior. Lucius was destined to be the Prophet and Jade a spell caster. Together they were a great couple and I thoroughly enjoyed their story, which also allows Jade to discover who her mother was.

This is book 4 in Jessica Andersen's series about the Mayan prophecy on the 2012 end-date. This book focuses on the two misfits in the group (Lucas and Jade) and how they develop their powers.

I do like this series, it is unique. However, I should probably take a break from these books for a while as the lore is quite heavy and for half the book I have no idea on what is actually happening. For example, in this book they had to play a ball game in "hell" in order to free the sun god. WTF? My head hurts......I don't recommend reading these books back to back. A break is necessary, with reading brain candy in between.

The romance in these books plays second fiddle to the detailed lore and action and I guess that is why I do keep reading. It is unique in the genre. I just may take a break before I read book 5 though as I am pretty sure the world was saved last year so no need to rush to find out the ending :-P

Lucius is the odd man out, at times he seems like he is part of the group, yet other times he is on the outside looking in. Recent actions, though seemed to have brought him closer to being in. I really liked his friendship with Jade. I like how Jade was honest and upfront with him about how things would be between them.

In this book, it seems like they finally really talk about the past, the event that changed all of their lives, the massacre. They all seemed to learn some hard painful truths and realize, really realize that the winkin lived through this event and it is still very painful for them.

It seemed like afterwards all of them had to face things about themselves, particularly Lucius, Jade, Rabbit, and Patience. But like before they have to take things in faith, jump in with 2 feet and hope that they made the right choice.

"Magic isn't the answer. Love is."

Ms. Andersen has once again written a very compelling story in the Final Prophecy Series. Demonkeepers is the story of Lucius, the human turned makol turned "human", who through his interests in Mayan history has been linked to the Nightkeepers through Anna; and Jade, the nightkeeper still on the search to be more than what she beleives is intended. Together they find themselves in some pretty tricky situations and only together can they even begin to find the answers to how to get out.

I really enjoyed this book - it took me a long time to read - but not because of the books quality. I read because I like to escape and go on adventures - this book surely did that for me.

I am looking forward to the next in the series as I work my way up to the last book to be released later in 2012.

Thank you Ms. Andersen!

Another really good Nightkeeper story by JA. :-) This time it was about Lucius and Jade. Some interesting developments about the libray, Jade's background and they do accomplish some things together which was nice to see. I'm very curious to see where the story is going with Rabbit and his background, but I guess that book is not in the works yet. Or hopefully it is? :-)

Definitely looking forward to the next one about Brandt and Patience. Considering she hasn't seen her sons in over 2 years and the fact that her and Brandt are very much drifting apart, it should be interesting to see where this one goes.

Not quite a 5 Star read for me - possibly because I've been reading these one after another without a break and its overloading my brain...but still a great read!

Can't say that I felt really connected to Lucius and Jade (or to their relationship as a whole) because it felt a bit disjointed at parts because of all the back and forth of "he loves me, he loves me not" but, as usual, love conquers all and the Nightkeepers prevail! I'm excited to see what else could possibly go wrong with our lovely saviors in the last two years before zero date and will definitely be picking up the next one ASAP!

This is Jessica Andersen's take on the Mayan doomsday prophecy. Mages called the Nightkeepers are charged with stopping the apocalypse and allowing the demons to roam free on earth. This is the fourth book of the series and it tell the story of Lucian and Jade. Lucian was not born a Nightkeeper and instead becomes the prophet after he is taken over by a demon. I liked the struggle Jade has to go through in the relationship. This book is not a pure romance novel. It has plenty of action and is very descriptive when describing Mayan history and the writers own take.

I would recommend the previous books in the series first but don't worry it is worth it!
