The judge and the acquitted murderer get married. That begins a wild romance and that isn't supposed to happen, it supposed to be in name only marriage to save the baby. Loved this one. All kinds of emotions run through this book. Really liked it

#8 in my quest to read every Montana Mavericks books (I mean all of em, up to the modern day, whoooeee)
Well damn. This one was fricking great! I was so deeply invested in these two characters, not only in their battle to win custody but in their emotional journey to let go of the grief and sadness of losing their sweetheart/best friend in Vietnam.
Ethan could be hard work at time, here was a man at rock bottom and honestly the the heroine had to do so much heavy lifting here - in fact she did everything for their relationship and he just sort of grumped along being difficult. No worries though as I rate romance books on how much I love the heroine, and I loved her hugely!

I have mixed feelings about this book. For one, I really like the FMC. She was smart, level-headed, and proactive, but the MMC was annoying. I understand that he was going through a lot: he lost his mother, sister, and best friend. He fought in a war and likely has PTSD. But he was so rude and mean to FMC when she was doing her hardest to help him win the custody of his niece. This guy was on a self-pity party throughout the book. I'm still surprised the FMC even put up with him.
