Alan Wilson Watts was a British philosopher, writer and speaker, who held both a Master's in Theology and a Doctorate of Divinity. Famous for his research on comparative religion, he was best known as an interpreter and popularizer of Asian philosophies for a Western audience. He wrote over 25 books and numerous articles on subjects such as personal identity, the true nature of reality, higher consciousness, the meaning of life, concepts and images of God and the non-material pursuit of happiness. In his books he relates his experience to scientific knowledge and to the teachings of Eastern and Western religion and philosophy.
1965 interview with the great Alan Watts, well-noted Professor of Comparative Religion and Philosophy. One of the great spiritual thinkers of this modern era. Someone with deep knowledge of religion and philosophy, with the ability to provide clear explanations or pose simple questions. He intersperses the rise of thinking machines, unified fields, Christianity, Judaism, Taoism, Buddhism, Hinduism, attempted control of the future through technology and statistical analysis, Nature and the role of the individual in "society." Tremendous open-ended thinker, great "food" for thought!!
"Every season a tree brings forth fruits, leaves, flowers, and they fall off and others come and take their place. . . If our consciousness can be adjusted to feel that fundamentally you are the tree rather than just the fruit, just the leaf, then you get a sense of existence, that you are authentic instead of schizophrenic."
