Despite the brevity, this (30-page) book contains information one cannot find in many dense books about Vincent Van Gogh and his extraordinary world of art and inspiration.

David Spence explores the figures in the background of known and widely spoken pictures, not only the artist but also the period and the art he lived at the same time. Spence explains how his work spoke to his era, and how it fits into the larger tradition of Western painting. In this regard, I learned many things I did not know. It's a good book for those who are curious about Van Gogh's artistic soul.

Great introduction to Van Gogh. Sad how brilliance is often misunderstood & ostracized. I am encouraged to go the extra mile when it comes to supporting my little Van Gogh. Great read. 5 stars.

Sencillamente me encantó.

A short book highlighting Van Gogh’s most famous paintings while framing his artwork with the era, other artists, and the various art movements. I read this after finishing Van Gogh: The Life, and found it quick and informative after a deep dive into Van Gogh’s life.

Perfect for a quick synopsis, 3.5 Goodread stars.
