He just took off. But he couldn’t outrun the pain and he couldn’t outrun the dreams. Hot, sweaty dreams that threaten to drive him mad. He can’t stop thinking about Bree.A year later, he returns home, determined to close the book on his old life. But those dreams—those dark, guilty needs—haven’t gone away. They threaten to consume him. And it doesn’t help that his wife’s ghost is haunting him…encouraging him…

Bio...
Shiloh Walker has been writing since she was a kid. She fell in love with vampires with the book Bunnicula and has worked her way up to the more...ah...serious vampire stories. She loves reading and writing anything paranormal, anything fantasy, and nearly every kind of romance. Once upon a time she worked as a nurse, but now she writes full time and lives with her family in the Midwest.
I'm really disappointed in this one. When I first found it, I was excited to read it. I'm all for a "forbidden" romance..
Unfortunately, I just didn't get the connection between them.
Bree has loved Colby since high school. Then we find out he had a crush on her back in high school. Ok, cool. Plus, Colby is having hot dreams about Bree...sounds good. However, the chemistry wasn't there. I felt like I was told Bree liked Colby, and I was told Colby liked Bree, and I was told that they were friends....but there wasn't enough time spent with them to develop their friendship or chemistry.
One of my favorites by Ms. Walker, this book just knocks my socks off every time I read it. Colby just makes me go into a major sighing session! My review: http://bit.ly/bx15pO
Surprisingly touching love story with a fresh feel. made me tear up. Only criticism is I was looking for more saucy smut and this was more a romance with just a touch of sexy times thrown in.
What would you do if your dying best friend asked you to be with her husband when she was gone? That is exactly what happened to Bree as her bestfriend Alyssa made her swear to be with her husband Colby when the time was right.
But Bree has been in love with Colby for the best part of her life and is shocked to learn Alyssa has known all this time. Colby doesn't even see her that way. What is she to do? A day later, Alyssa dies and the mourning starts.
Colby is devastated. His bestfriend and high school sweetheart has just died. His life is over. The house they built together no longer feels like home. How is he going to survive without Alyssa? As the sod is thrown onto her coffin, Colby is pulled away by Bree - the one person who stood by Alyssa from the moment she was diagnosed with Cancer. She was there everyday without fail. Always there for him and Alyssa.
Somehow through his grieve, Colby finds himself in Bree's home. A place that has become a second home to him and his now dead wife. Pictures of Alyssa and Bree and him are everywhere and as he is overcome with grief, Bree is there to catch him. He doesn't know what happens next but all of a sudden he finds himself drawn to her but before he does something else, he ups and leaves.
A year passes and Colby returns home believing he is crazy. He is hearing his dead wifes voice whispering in his ear to be with her best friend. The same woman who has been hounding his dreams for the last six months. The same woman who is knelt in his garden right at that moment.
Bree is shocked when she sees Colby. He left without a goodbye besides a few short words - he need time. Bree is also used to seeing her bestfriend's ghostly form telling her that her love for Colby is returned but after living with a broken heart for fifteen years, she is unsure if she can take that step.
Feeling guilty for different reasons, Bree and Colby take the next step but there is always consequences when the truth is hidden. Can they last when everything comes out? Will the trust be there or will it be broken?
I loved this book. It takes true genius for a writer to make me cry but that is exactly what happens when I read anything written by Shiloh Walker! This is the type of book that I could just read over and over again.

so... I know this is an EC book and that's not a good thing but - the story? it's good. It's fresh and new and OH MY GOD difficult. The whole ... friends to lovers, forbidden love, EXTREMELY DIFFICULT SITUATION. Didn't looovveee the ghost thing, but I get that it was popular when published.
Oh - the angst and everything was spot on. Not overwrought, just the right amount and realistic ... I can see myself re-readng this book.
There were some things that bothered me a little - the plot/characters, but I think it's also because I was so invested. Solid B read maybe a B+
