I'm not a reader of horror, never have been. The last thing I want is a book that's going to keep me up all night jumping at every little sound. When I first saw this book, my immediate reaction was "no way!" but because the author seemed like a nice guy, I thought, OK, I'll give it a chance.

I looked at the first chapter and could not stop reading.

Nathan has crafted a book that pulled me right into this world, totally against my will. I was prepared to hate it, it's horror after all. But I cared about the characters, I cared about their struggle, and absolutely had to see how it resolved.

While I know horror isn't for everyone, I can't recommend this book enough. Just be prepared to be up all night. (Just don't forget to keep a stake near at hand. Maybe some garlic on the nightstand. A little Holy Water perhaps?)

I really wanted to rate this higher! But I can't. This story is well written, dark and -at times- disturbing at a level on-par with Stephen King. Using a Craft she doesn't fully understand, Chelsea give eerily lifelike animation to a puppet she makes for drama class every victim makes it stronger and she has to find a way to destroy it before it destroys her. I don't want to bore you with details or give anything away, but the ultimate message seems (to me) to be that, no matter how hard you try to correct your mistakes, your belief in Jesus Christ as your savior is the only thing that will give you a glimmer of hope. Not a sentiment I can really get behind.

Preachy, and heavy-handed. Strangely, I learned that I can thoroughly enjoy the story and disagree in fundamental ways with what the author says. Right away in the forward notes, I feel like he starts on a defensive note. And to be fair I agree on a lot of points; Catholicism takes a lot of assault, scientific nit-picking and media representation have never tested the faith of any other religions in the same capacity. I can appreciate the gravity of that truth, but I feel like out of frustration he does everything he can to demonize a religion he doesn't really understand and barely researched (which if I was bitter I might point out has been the Cristian prerogative for the better part of the past couple thousand years). Religion is about a spiritual bond, not about who is right, and certainly not about who has greater Authority.

Ripper Grimm is an intense ride. A cult ceremony brings a vampire puppet to life. He then draws in followers and becomes a terror on the college campus. The only way to defeat the monster she created is to put on the full armor of God and go to war.

Hang on for the wild ride!
