This book (Harper & Row, 1979) begins with a helpful biographical outline (p. vii - ix). It includes a number of plates, both color and B&W. However, within the first 24 pages, I found a few statements/facts that contradicted the information found in a later publication on the same topic, Dear Friend by Eric Torgersen (Northwestern University Press, 1998).

The writing is clear; I may return to this later for additional material or to triangulate but I do not feel 100% confident in its accuracy.
