Maybe not the known universe. But this book is still really, really gorgeous! And I like having some of my favourite fantasy artists in a book, you know, in case the entire internet blows up. Or I want to grab someone who is in my house and say "look at this!" instead of sending them links that they'll never click.

(Which is why I'm glad I never cancelled my print subscription to Locus - because I want to keep that awesome art issue forever and ever).

The publishers put out a call for entries and then judge the entries in various categories.

From the introduction: "Of the 6,288 images entered, 371 were featured in Expose 7".

Categories are:

Portrait (painted)
Portrait (rendered)
Architecture (Exterior)
Architecture (Interior)
Fantasy
Fantasy Femmes
Concept Art
Matte Painting
Environment
Warriors & Conflict
Science Fiction
Robotic/Cyborg
Steampunk
Futurescapes
Product Design & Still Life
Abstract & Design
Storytelling
Whimsical
Wildlife
Transport

Advisory board and Jury included: Stephan Martiniere, Lorne Lanning, Phil Straub, Max Dennison, Christopher Sloan, Brom, Alex Morris and Chris Stoski.

All men, which probably explains why the "Fantasy Femmes" and "Portrait" sections were a bit porny.

But I still discovered lots of amazing artists, and there was a good spread of nationalities, including, for example, Helen Chierego, artist behind "Kookaburra Princess".
