Rescued by Colonel Brooke Pennington after fleeing from her violent stepfather and an arranged marriage to the vile Lord Frampton, Clarinda feels relieved until she learns that the secretive colonel has had dealings with her stepfather
Nothing much to say about this book. It's your typical historical romance novel. It was enjoyable while I was reading it, but not at all substantial enough to actually remember what the book was about.
The basic premise of the book had an abused young woman that was supposed to marry the evil friend of her stepfather. She refused to wed, was beaten nearly to death, but ran away from her circumstances into the arms of another man. The hero of the book obviously knows what happened because the heroine is rescued and brought to his manor, but the heroine's evil stepfather and friend is searching for her.
The fact that the heroine falls in love with the hero too quickly after what happened to her is very offputting. However, I do like how abuse is handled in this book, even though the author made it seem that a woman needs a man to be saved from a lifetime of abuse.
