Andrew is the prodigal son returned to rebuild his life when he meets Hannah, an abused woman with a child. Falling in love is the last thing on either of their minds. But Andrew, in his new life, is drawn to helping her in any way he can. Can she trust him? Will he realize his dream of having his own family> And what about the painful secret she is carrying and the dangers of her life that could drive them apart forever? A story of forgiveness, second chances, and true love.
Some can relate to Andrew being the prodigal child who returned home; some can relate to Hannah's experience with domestic violence. Most can relate to the internal struggle over forgiveness. Everyone has felt fear. Gail Gaymer Martin weaves a multi-faceted story covering struggles so many people face.
Hannah has divorced her abusive husband but he will not leave her alone. Andrew rescues a woman and her little boy one rainy night and takes them to the shelter. As there lives become entangled, he's not sure how to handle the situation and Hannah does not trust.
The Christian theme is very heavy in this book. While I normally don't mind, I feel like it is brought up in the characters over and over again. Plus the community seems so judgmental, like hello who are you to judge other people, only God can.
I found the storyline to be a little boring and slow for the most part. Definitely didn't expect the violent and explicit moments that Hannah had to go through no thanks to her violent and dominating ex-husband Jack. Poor JJ is caught in the middle, hard for him to be a young kid. I did find Hannah to be a little too hard headed and reckless with her own health and others during the climax. Like I understand a mother would do just about anything and everything for her child, but she was too reckless, she endangered too many people. She should have waited for Andrew and the cops!
Honestly, what is so wrong for Andrew to go out into the world to try his luck. He may have failed with his ventures but it doesn't mean he should be ashamed. I mean you learn from experiences, plus he is here now for his family.
It was a quick read mostly focused on forgiveness, healing and love.
It's a really good story the author did a really good job writing it I had to keep reading chapter After chapter and find out what's going to happen next because it made me want to turn the page to see what happened
2006. Loving Tenderness is the reason that got me hooked in reading; the first romance book I've read. I even sent a letter to Gail via mail and she wrote back to me! Isn't she sweet? 😍 So I wouldn't forget this beautiful book that was beautifully written. I loved it so much!
This was actually one of the ones that I have read before and I am in conflict about it. It has a truly wonderful end that brings out the emotions or at least it did for me but the rest of it really seemed like the same old story repeated for yet another time with a few tweaks.
Honestly also I feel that although the characters were on the average side they could have been made stronger. Instead writing in their weaknesses and trying to get the compatible it seemed that the characters were a bit on the weak end of things while I know that Andrew definitely could have been one great character but instead it seems more thought was put into his brother than into him.
I also didn't like the way that Hannah seemed to respond to mostly all the situations that she found herself in. Some I can agree may have been a bit more like what one would see but some of the others.... Although she was a mother, she more often seemed like she was petty or not planning ahead thus making everyone go into danger without a care besides her own seemingly unselfish needs or desires.
All in all for those who like this book it makes for a quick and somewhat enjoyable read. Otherwise I don't know whether you would want a recommend or not.
5/26/12 - Went to a few yardsales with mom & Kristina today. Got this one & some others. I'm not usually one to read these types very often - but now & then I find one that involves babies & I gotta give it a try! LOL
I liked this book but I don't think I'll read it again. The storyline was unexpected based on the book jacket description but it was well written. I think how Martin wrote the love story between Hannah and Andrew was sweet. Forewarning: The underlying story is kind of dark.
Not a typical romance book. Had a lot of reality to it. It talked about domestic violence and everything that goes with it. It shows real situations and the feelings that go with them. Very good book :-)
This was a wonderful little book that certainly contained some subject matter that makes you think. I really like these Love Inspired books with the religious spin to them!
