I love this book because my chapter (Pisces) is insanely accurate. The author must be a Pisces. He’s also clearly had some bad relationship experiences because a couple of other signs’ chapters aren’t exactly flattering. It’s a little silly, highly campy and really just genuinely fun to read.
The good parts: There’s a few laughs. Parts of the descriptions feel shockingly spot-on. As much as I complain below, the book DID keep me reading all the way through each of the matches with my own sign. Also, most astrology books and horoscopes are pretty heteronormative, so it just feels good to see the signs through a gay lens...even if I really struggle with the writing sometimes.
The bad parts: Each description for the signs (spelled “sings” throughout the book) reads like the author has dated each of the signs and the relationships all ended horribly. Like, astrology is just organizing people into widely relatable stereotypes, and that’s part of what makes it fun! However, this book gets SPECIFIC about the different ways each sign is generally terrible and goes so far as to predict how a break-up will go. It might just be that the author is aiming for snarky humor, but it feels like it crosses into the territory of just being petty most of the time. OH! I don’t know if maybe it’s just the ebook, but the edition I read was saturated with spelling and grammar errors to the point where it was distracting.
Overall, it fell short on my expectations but kept me entertained anyway. There’s a decent foundation; it just needs work.
This book has been very helpful in understanding my friends and boyfriends. Most astrology books talk about the chemistry between a man and a woman, this book tells about the chemistry between two men in a relationship. The author has even divided the signs into types of gays (i.e. guppy, gym bunny, drag queen, etc.) and the different effects that has on the relationships. The author even gives very friendly advice on what each relationship should look out for/ work on in order to be successful. I found this book to be very positive and would recommend it to any of my gay male friends.
The voice is informative. There's no story line. Tone can be several things depending on how one feels when they read about their sign. Overall, it is an informative text.
I like how they gave examples of situations with each signs. Although, a character was not created with descriptive adjectives as a traditional novel would, the author used examples to demonstrate his point.
No strategies to implement, just would like to know what was the source as I was reading. Although it's an informative text, one cant really say it's factual.
Seems pretty damned accurate to me. I also like this author's sense of humor. I didn't give it five stars because his description of the five different types of gay men exclude many people (like myself) that don't fit into those categories. The rest of the book can apply to anyone though.
Anyone following my reviews---my real account on GoodReads is under whereismikeyfl. I only found out by accident you all were following me under this name.
The book is easy to read, useful if you want to find out about your zodiac sign. It gives basic knowledge about astrological signs with a lot of fun, so it is only for beginners in astrology.
