Good book...primarily about the witch trials documented in the Channel Islands. Loads of history is included along with a few bits about the New Jersey—Jersey connections and some interesting bits about Salem, MA.

Very interesting - especially in the middle chapters that deal with the early modern witch trials. The remote nature of the islands meant that the role that religion and politics of the islands was slightly different to what went on in England itself. I found a letter written by a tortured 'witch' to his daughter to be particularly emotive. Less convincing / effective is the author's attempt to link pre-christian beliefs to the witch trials, and his discussion of modern day beliefs. I would give 3.5, and on a different day I might round up. Overall it's worth a read because it has enough interesting material and without being overly lengthy.
