Phoenix Force #43

Gulf Of Fire

Rate this book
The Persian Gulf has become a fire-stormed oil slick as the Iran-Iraq war rages throughout the Middle East. When the U.S. begins escorting supertankers through the Gulf, it, too, becomes a target, and there are those in the U.S. Congress who say the United States is nothing more than a sitting duck.

Phoenix Force is dispatched to Kuwait to learn if the violence is an act of state-sponsored terrorism - or the work of independent fanatics - before the U.S. declares open war on Iran. Suddenly Katz and his men find themselves up against the Purple Warriors of Righteousness, and extremist Shiite cult dedicated to carrying out their suicide mission - to deliver America to the fires of hell!

Maybe closer to a 3.5 but it is enjoyable. William Fieldhouse has a formula for these for sure, but it works. These time the team is sent to the middle east because it looks like Iran is going after American interests during their war with Iraq. This would bring America and other countries into the war causing many more deaths. PF's main job is to find out if Iran is responsible for the terrorism if not stop who is. The terrorists happen to be a sect of crazed Muslims led by a guy who thinks he is some kind of messiah, they are lots of them, who are well armed, and wanting to be martyrs.

Recommended, Fieldhouse is always a decent read at least, and he does a good job in describing the countries the Force ends up in and giving some historical context for each. He also knows what genre he is writing and keeps the action flowing.

A spin off series from his Executioner books. This series follows several secondary characters that band together. Recommended
