When mysterious objects of a possibly alien origin begin appearing near his island home, Nakoy's life and the safety of everyone he loves is threatened. After discovering a sinister metal structure in the forest, and then a slimy egg-like object floating in their fishing grounds, Nakoy's family tries to hide these strange puzzle pieces , but they aren't the only ones who know about these odd artifacts. A hundred light-years from Earth, a species called Asidrans have been sending their egg pods to different planets for generations, and they aren't happy when one of their offspring goes missing. Fraternal loyalty is tested and long-buried secrets come to light when this humble family of protagonists stands between an incredibly advanced alien race and their sought-after prize. The powerful connections of family are the key, and the recognizable dynamics between Nakoy , Saboya , Lorrian and Paamie .
U.S. Navy veteran Chamnol was born in Battambang. He and his family fled the Cambodian Civil War, and he currently lives in Illinois. Vivid dreams of aliens, sparked the ideas in his own stories. He enjoys movies and series binging occasionally.
Disclaimer: I received this book as part of GoodReads' First Reads program.
The Missing Son is a story about a fisherman and his family who find an alien egg for some reason in the ocean, take it home, figure out what it likes to eat and raise it to be part of their family, hiding its existence from everyone else in the area. This book seems to aimed at an elementary school aged demographic, which is definitely not me. It is poorly written, uses terrible grammar and consistently uses the wrong words. For example, the author constantly uses the word "smirk" when he means "smile", apparently not having bothered to consult a dictionary to find out what kind of smile a smirk is. In addition, the story is not even finished, but leaves you hanging with a "to be continued" ending. I usually enjoy reading the books I get from GoodReads, but this one was excruciatingly difficult to finish. I cannot recommend it.
