It's been a long time since our last visit to Knight's Mageverse of vampires and witches

More like 2.5 stars. I liked both of the leads, and Knight did a good job of making me believe that the hero Logan (human son of Gwen and Arthur) fell for the Maja Gaida who was sent undercover to protect him, he admires her intelligence as well as her beauty. But I had a harder time with Gaida's feelings for Logan. Lust? Yes. Love? Not so much. Logan hurts Gaida emotionally several times and she gives him the cold shoulder but Gaida' anger/hurt just faded away when he broached her barriers through seduction.

It was interesting to revisit the Mageverse series, it wasn't too long ago that Knight's was one of the few paranormal romance series out there - unlike today when there are so many series to choose from. Knight's book was more erotic than I'd remembered and I'll admit that the book hit pretty much all of my unfavorite sensual words and almost all of them in two back to back paragraphs, which likely is part of the reason that I didn't enjoy the book as much as other reviewers. Still it was pretty good and I found the supporting character who was a fae god disguised as a cat intriguing so Iam still tempted to check out the next book, Master of Smoke, where he takes centerstage.

The hero has been fighting against his destiny for many years. After witnessing the change of his friend and the subsequent death that followed, the hero has fought to remain human even though his people need him to become a vampire. His parents - Arthur and Gwen, and his aunt Morgana have all pressured him into accepting his place but the hero is just not ready yet. It's why he's so resistant to the sneeky handed tactics of his aunt. She's sent females his way who are witches in the hopes that he'll sleep with them 3 times and become a vampire but he's always managed to clock them before. The heroine is a different sort of spy. Sent by him parents to NOT sleep with him, she has orders to protect him only. Mages and vampires are being killed and they fear he won't have the ability to protect himself because he's very much mortal. She is barely turned witch herself and therefore more able to fit into mortal society. They become partners and friends. There is a level of chemistry to their relationship but the hero has resisted because she's his partner and she's resisted because of her vow to Arthur. But as time passes and the danger of the assassin becomes more and more real, they suddenly look at each other and can't keep their hands to themselves. The heroine is wrought with guilt over her lies and betrayal and when the hero finds out what she'd done, he is livid. But when his head cools he realizes it was high time he accepted his destiny and if any woman is going to turn him, he wants it to be her. Because he loves her greatly and he needs the strength to keep her safe.

A word to best describe this books? boring. I lost interest in it very quickly. This is mainly because the POV switches to damn quickly and frequently that the reader has a hard time becoming one with the story. I couldn't find my footing in either the characters personality or the plotline- not that there were much of either. I found the hero to be a bit wishy washy is his priorities and though he was pissed that the heroine basically tricked him, he was still very quick to cast all that aside and offer her the truebond. But he didn't tell him he wanted it because he loved her, he kept that very secret. He wanted people to think he needed the heroine for her blood and the strength she will give him. I don't know why he just couldn't admit his feelings. The heroine was a bit more tolerable. She was pressured from every other person from Arthur to Gwen to Morgana to herself to feel one type of way towards the hero and as such was pulled this way and that. She was stuck in the middle and made the best choices she could with what she had- while trying to follow her own heart. The plotline was boring, the POV's jumped and I had little to no interest in the characters romance. Not so good.

LOVED IT!!! This to me is what a really good paranormal romance should be. Angela uses such a fantastic imagination in writing these book's. I really liked both H&H the and secondary characters. Of course the love scenes were Hot and that is always' a plus for me.

I'm so glad that Angela came back to write more of this series. The last book in this series I read was back in 2007. Up until then I could hardly wait for each new book in this series to be released. This one slipped by me and I'm glad that I finally found it. Master Of Smoke is the next book to be released and it will be an auto buy for me.

I do so enjoy reading the evolution of Knight's Mageverse series and seeing how the titles fit. Knight has such a hot touch with this vampire culture she has created.

I liked Logan and Gaida, but ultimately I didn't feel like their relationship developed as smoothly/believably as I would have liked. Logan's pretty shitty to Gaida at times in this, with some justifiable anger, but their reconciliation felt like Gaida gave in a little easily.

There's of course a new big bad developing in this story that we know is going to be a problem. This story though just wasn't my favorite in the series.

Warning - this has a cliff hanger ending. I HATE that. If I'd known, I would have waited for the release of Master of Smoke and just bought both of them then.

Good read, hot sex, but you really don't see much typing the h/h together except sex and location/profession. I'm guessing they might be further developed in the next book - as Smoke [who is the hero of the next book:] was started in this one.

There is an ongoing series arc - books should really be read in order [although the short stories are not as involved with the main storyline as the novels.:]

Mageverse
1. Seduction's Gift (2004) (in Hot Blooded)
2. Master of the Night (2004)
3. Galahad (2005) (in Bite)
4. Master of the Moon (2005)
5. Master of Wolves (2006)
6. Moon Dance (2007) (in Over the Moon)
7. Master of Swords (2006)
8. Master of Dragons (2007)
9. Master of Fire (2010)

Giada has been tasked by Arthur and Guinevere to protect their son. Someone has been targeting and killing Latents (those who possess the ability to become a vampire or a witch), and Logan is a Latent who has been resisting his inevitable change into a vampire. He works for a police department in the mortal world, specializing in explosives and forensics. Giada has a degree as a chemist, and she is assigned to work with Logan as her cover. Logan would be furious if he knew his parents sent a babysitter, plus he's wary of witches, for fear one will try to turn him into a vampire by having sex with him. Bzuh? Moving on...

Giada saves Logan from a couple close calls, which he doesn't even realize. She soon learns that she's up against someone who's no mortal, as her magic is having difficulty tracking him. In the meantime, someone takes a shot at her, and of course Logan decides the only way for the lovely chemist to be safe is in his house, where, of course, they can't keep their paws off of one another. Now, Giada has to contend with the 'oh god, he's going to hate me', while Logan knows he can't take up with a mortal woman, and...yawn. At least the sex scenes were scorching hot.

The story itself was compelling and exciting and even a bit scary. I just could have done without the personal angsting and the twu wuv too soon aspects. Even though I came into the series so far into it, I didn't feel I was missing out on too much. I did wonder, however, why Arthur and Guinevere only had one child (that I recall mentioning) when they were both about 1500 years old. Uh, wouldn't they have literally dozens of offspring? Anyone? Bueller?

Objectively, this was an excellent story; subjectively, I wasn't that enamored of it. I'll be generous and give it a score of 4.

Logan is Arthur's son, a Latent. He's been putting off accepting the gift that would change him into a Magi and to join the battle to protect earth. He's afraid he won't be able to master the change.

Giada is a fairly new turned Majae sent to protect Logan. Someone is killing Latent's and she's sent to protect Logan without letting him know who and what she is, which is becoming problematic. With Morgana giving her a magicked necklace, she falls into bed with him and when he discover's the truth it get's a bit ugly.

An assassin is hired to kill Logan, making it look like an accident but he's foiled time and again by Giada and her partner, a demi-god, called Smoke.

This is an erotic, paranormal love story, that was just an okay read for me. I found myself more interested in Smoke and his story line than the main characters.

Someone is trying to kill Arthur's son, Logan. They are killing the Latents before they acquire their magic. Arthur and Gwen have sent Giada a new Maja to protect Logan. She is forbidden to sleep with him because he doesn't his powers yet. Logan doesn't completely trust her because too many have tried to trick him into sex. This is fun read because of that and because Giada is trying to keep him safe without using to much magic so he doesn't find out what she is. He works for a police dept. on the bomb squad. And the cate, Smoke who is more than a cat. He talks and has more powers than all of them. Really a good read! Love this series.

Main characters were wonderful, but Arthur, Guin, Morgan - they were all manipulative, conniving jerks. I would use other language to describe them, but would prefer not to curse in a review. Their behavior left a really nasty taste and kept me from fully enjoying the story.

Giada Shepherd is a brilliant chemist who also happens to be a relatively new Maja (aka immortal witch). With someone targeting and killing Latents – mortals with the ability to become witches or vampires – Giada is called upon by the legendary Arthur and Guinevere of Camelot to protect their mortal son, Logan MacRoy. Logan, an intelligent forensic chemist in his own right, works with the Greendale County Bomb Squad and if he knew the new chemist shadowing his work was a Maja he’d toss her out on her ear. So Giada is ordered not to reveal her true identity and to most definitely not sleep with Logan and trigger his Change. But with the unfulfilled desire between Logan and Giada becoming too much to bear and a deadly enemy determined to take out the pair, the truth is bound to come out. And when it does, it’s not just the fate of Logan and Giada’s hearts on the line.

Take a trip into the exciting Mageverse world in Master of Fire. I’ve been long awaiting a new Mageverse novel and Logan’s story in particular, so I was thrilled when I got my hands on a copy of Master of Fire. I must say, I loved revisiting some of my favorite characters in the Mageverse series (Arthur and Guinevere in particular) and seeing new obstacles arise that are sure to continue in future books. It’s nearly impossible to talk about some of the more thrilling points of Master of Fire without spoiling the book, so I’ll avoid danger by saying that I’m sure other readers will finish the story as desperate as I to read the next book, Master of Smoke.

Where Master of Fire falls short for me is, quite sadly, the two protagonists. There’s a spark missing from Logan, Giada, and their romance that is present in the earlier Mageverse novels. They did not come alive for me, nor did I become invested in their love story. I had such high hopes for Arthur and Guinevere’s son that this book was a bit of a letdown in terms of characterization.

Master of Fire is the tenth story (sixth full-length book) in the Mageverse series, but Angela Knight provides enough information that it can be read as a standalone. The action sequences and the new troubles that arise in the Mageverse world were intriguing and the lead in to Master of Smoke left me eagerly awaiting its release.

Back in November when I first found out this book was being published I said "I am SO excited, if you want something fun, sexy and full of action then this may be the series for you. Any vampire warrior who must live off blood and sex can try and see if I am a mage any time of the week. Set in a parallel Mageverse Arthur and his knights and Maja protect the human real from all kinds of demons and beasties, helped by Dire Wolves, a couple of Dragons and Fey they strive to battle evil. Turned into Vampiric immortal warriors by a now absent Merlin and Nimue Arthur et al create a fun pack. To survive they must drink the blood of the maja, their female equivalent who require sex and blood release to survive. It is a FUN symbiotic relationship. Sadly my poor explanation does not do it justice."

And I was justified to be excited!

After the first chapter(s) I was hooked, Giada was innocently charming but certainly packed a punch, Logan had the honourability of an Arthurian knight but was his own man. They suited each other very well and that made the book flow nicely,Logan has resisted the change for so long; he has his own reasons which we discover in the book, Arthur and Gwen don't want to lose another son, they want him to change... and Gwen knows Giada will be perfect for her son! Mwahahaaaaa! They both try to resist, but with the help of Morgana and Smoke they have no chance, and the are HOT together. Whilst Giada and Logan getting together is the over-riding theme the assassin plot is intriguing and fast paced. I loved how the plot twisted and turned, the hunt for the plot and those behind the assinations... and this is only the beginning.

The book also introduced the character of Smoke, and I love Smoke... he is so cute in cat form! But he doesn't stay that way and is integral to the plot, the next book Master of Smoke is all about him. If you want a fun, sometimes funny, downright sexy book with a killer and mysterious plot (literally, as someone is trying to kill him) then this book could be for you. If you have not read any of them, please try them, I can not recommend them highly enough.

4 pink panties out of 5, a damp panty read! Mysterious, sexy and downright hot!

Giada - new mage (witch) - 4 months old - as human a brilliant chemist...

Logan - son of King Arthur & Gwenivere - Gwenivere raised him in the human world, though he regularly visited the mageverse - he witnessed an adopted brother, who when turned to vampire, went mad, and Arthur had to kill him, and Logan feared that he may also go mad and require his father to kill him, so he put off turning.

But someone is after the the Latents - killing 10 or more, and someone is targeting Logan... so Arthur & Gwenivere send Giada, who is too new for Logan to know, to protect him, with strict instructions not to have sex with him (a vampire is made by a Latent having sex with him 3 times) because they did not want him to think they were forcing him into the change...

They are after him with bombs... he is on the bomb squad, and she is observing him for a month... she magically disarms two bombs - but unfortunately misses a 3rd, back up bomb, and one on the team dies.

The werewolf family of the last book, where the son was killing women are the ones out to get Arthur via Logan... and the werewolf family is following one they call the Sorceror...

Smoke is an ancient - of the Sidhe - and takes the form of a cat... he was Arthur's companion growing up and is now Giada's companion... when the Sorceror finds out about the cat, he becomes his target... and he captures the cat, draining his power - but Smoke pushes all of his power at him and overwhelms him, and escapes... next book is about him...

Giada sleeps with Arthur twice (once under Mordrid's influence, and once because she felt it was right)... and the 2nd time, he figures out she's mage... at first angered, he then wants to complete the change with her... she reluctantly agrees... and then they Truebond, to strengthen their powers, but secretly because each loves the other... so after they succeed in saving the children, destroying the werewolves (not the Sorceror), they are connected and cannot hide their love... and are truly bonded... ahhhhh

A while back, I picked up the anthology Hot Blooded to read the novella written by Christine Feehan. Because it was an anthology, I read the other novellas just to see what other authors were penning at the time. That was how I discovered Angela Knight's Mageverse. And it was a discovery I was excited about. Usually, I end up discovering a new series long after it has started and I have to wade through countless books to catch up. But Mageverse was new, so as long as I stayed on top of it, I would always be one step ahead.

So why did it take me so long to read this one?? I got a bad copy of this novel and so the series got shelved. I refused to move forward until I had read this one first, since the world building is crucial to the greater story arc. As soon as I found a good copy, I read this one and I am so mad I had to wait. This was one awesome book, from start to finish!

I loved Giada. I love strong female characters who don't feel the need to be physically strong so much mentally, emotionally, and verbally. Giada was one of those female characters for me. She followed orders until she simply couldn't abide by that any longer. Yeah for her!

As for Logan, he was a let down. First, in all the prior novels, it is never mentioned, not freakin' once, that Arthur and Gwen had a baby. Since Gwen would have only recently gone back to Camelot after raising Logan, like say within the last 10-15 years, I would have expected to have heard about this before. But - we didn't. Second, regardless of a bad childhood experience, Gwen and Arthur would have raised Logan, I would think, to not be afraid of his future within the Magekind. Yet that is exactly what happens. Is this insecurity supposed to be attractive? Cuz it's not.

Their chemistry together was phenom. And the addition to the Mageverse universe was nice.

Brilliant chemist Logan MacRoy, the son of Arthur and Guinevere Pendragon, is also a cop, an arson investigator and a bomb tech. Someone has been killing Latents and immortal witch Giada Shepherd is tasked by the Pendragons to protect Logan without letting him know what she is or what she's doing. With a serial bomber in town doing his damndest to kill Logan, Giada certainly has her hands full. Enter the psychotic DireWolves and you have a lot going on and your choice of villains.

I loved Logan and Giada is a perfect match for him. I really liked Logan's struggle with being a vampire and his automatic distrust of Giada's motives. A truly romantic story with a very dangerous enemy making for a suspenseful romp through space. I can't wait to read Master of Smoke so I can find out what happened to Smoke.

Another great installment from Angela Knight. A very sweet love story with incredibly steamy sex scenes. LOVE Angela Knights sex scenes. Giada and Logan battle the evils stalking them as well as battle the growing affection they feel for each other. It's your typical romance book.. However, if you love romance with the dangers that accompany the preternatural world then these will be a sure favorite. I've loved all of Angela Knights Magaverse series books. She has spun a great story with Arthur and his knights of the round-table.. AKA Vampire's, and the witches that accompany them into battle.

I have enjoyed the few books in this series and was excited to read this newest addition. I think it was quite good in the sense that it was a stand-alone story that linked to the other books in this series. However, there was just a feel of the dialogue being a bit on the fussy side -- it was probably just me. However, I enjoyed the story as a whole and was glad I had an opportunity to read it. Otherwise, I would have not encountered Arthur Pendragon's "other" son -- not Mordred, the son he had with his half-sister, but his own son, the one that never shows up in the legends. And I have to add, I am still "blown away" that King Arthur is really a vampire. What a hoot . . .

If your a fan of paranormals then you'll love Angela Knights Master series. The Master series is a mix of wolfs, witches, elves and vampires. Lets not forget King Arthur and his round table. Giada Shepherd is a brilliant immortal witch whose job it is to protect Logan MacRoy who is King Arthur and Guinevere's son. Logan isn't looking forward to becoming immortal. He's worried that he could hurt someone and is putting it off for as long as he can. Of course having someone trying to kill you might change your mind. Its wonderful to watch Logan and Giada come together and fall in love. Its also great to see a few past characters and meet new ones.

Knight does an excellent job in imagining what it would be like to be the 21st-century son of Arthur and Guinevere, especially a mortal son of legendary Magekind parents. Logan MacRoy is a compelling character, easy to admire, to cry over, to cheer for, and occasionally get exasperated with. Giada Shepherd, the heroine of the novel, is less well developed. It was hard for me to get why Logan was attracted to her. Still, the story--multiple attempts to kill Logan as revenge against Arthur by a psychopathic father-daughter Direwolf duo--is well-crafted and chilling. It also introduces the next major villain for this series: Warlock, the only immortal, magic-wielding Dire Wolf Merlin created.

Another great book by Angela Knight in her Mageverse series. Great book if you like: vampires, witches, suspence, parellel worlds, a little mystery, and a sexy read. Having sex three times will turn Logan into a vampire, and Giada was expressly forbidden to turn Logan, but the sexual tension between the two makes that hard. Plus throw in a werewolf who is trying to kill Logan, preferably with a bomb, and you have an exciting read. There is some deaths, even of a good guy, and the werewolf was not who I expected. Can't wait for the next one, which there was a hint of in this book.

I enjoyed this enough to keep reading it, but felt the "magic" aspects were inconsistant, zapping in and out and disarming stuff, until they needed it, then there was some new rule or problem. Also, hero and heroine both came across as naive. The sex scenes were heavy-handed ("Sweet Merlin's Cup, you're tight!" - pretty cheesy) But still, there were some good plot elements, and if the next story is about Smoke, I'd probably read it.

Giadda is an immortal witch who falls for Logan. Logan is the son of King Arthur, an immortal vampire. He thinks that Giadda is a new trainee to investigate crimes but she is really sent to protect him. Logan has always fought against becoming a vampire like his father. But if he and Giadda get together he does not realize that he would be turned into the very thing that he thinks he does not want.

Giada a Majae, a magical witch from the Mageverse is sent to watch over him as someone is killing Latens that are to become immortal. They are gunning for Logan. They twist fate they experience is like no other. Very intense story. Read the book in one day as I could not put it down.

I enjoyed this book but it was a little disapointing that it took so long to really get Logan MacRoy to except that he needed to become a vampire. He knew that eventually he would. But he had been putting it off which it seemed kind of silly. After you hear he reason you understand a little better. But still it made the story a little drab.

Only my second novel by Angela Knight - though I've read a few of her short stories, too.
I didn't enjoy this one quite as much as the others, but I think that may be because I took so long reading it. I didn't love the characters as much as I usually do, though.
Knight writes great sex scenes, though, and I love the Mageverse in general. I'll keep reading these :)
