Embracing Her Curves
Derek Bettencourt and Jessica Cavanaugh are fantastic! I love how Jessica owns her curves, even when she's inwardly self-conscious, and I love how she helps other women do the same. She could be a spoiled little rich girl, but she puts herself out there fabulously.
I love how she confronts Claire! It takes courage, especially with the audience she has. She's the kind of woman I'd like to be friends with.

As for Derek, I love that he owns his mistakes and has his priorities straight. He's a stand-up guy and easy to like.
As for their parents... well, they suck... rotten lemons. 🍋😖 They each come from parents who don't understand the meaning of the word with their belittling and controlling ways. To the curb! That's where I think they should be kicked.
I read along with the audio book. The narrators are Connor Crais and Samantha Cook, and they are great choices for these characters. While duet narration would've been ideal, I really like both voice actors. 🎧🩷🎧

Let me first start off by saying that the cover is really cute. Let’s get into the book, easy read, you fall right into the storyline from page one. The characters burst with electricity from page one and you can quickly get into the story. It’s a cute typical brothers best friend likes younger sister. I really enjoyed the banter between the characters as well as the rough patches they went through. If you are looking for a romantic, cute book! This is it!.

Just a Little Hookup was a great friends to lovers romance that I didn't want to put down.
Derek Bettencourt typically doesn't mind being involved in philanthropic activities, but he's not all that excited about being auctioned off in a bachelor auction even though it's for a good cause. He ends up caught in a bidding war between his former fiancée and his best friend and business partner's little sister, who he has known all his life. He's not upset in the least when it's his best friend's sister that ends up the victor.
Jessica Cavanaugh never planned to bid at the auction until she heard what Derek's ex was planning. Plus, she figured if she won, it wouldn't be bad to spend a weekend with the man she's had a crush on her entire life, oh and there is the fact there might be a little payback involved for something that happened between them years ago too.
When the weekend rolls around and Jessica puts Derek to work as her personal handyman, sparks start to fly when flirting ensues and things grow steamy. When they actually spend time getting to know one another, they realize that maybe this could be more. Will they actually be able to make a go of it? Or will outside forces end things before they begin?
I really appreciate the inclusion and body positivity aspects of this book. It's important that not every character is small in stature and showing the struggle and real emotions about it are really important and I applaud the authors for it. I really enjoyed this book and the romance that unfolded between Derek and Jessica.

short, cliched, but problematic

This author rolls out a list of tropes for this short novel about love in legacy families of NYC. There is no backstory, we just jump into the lives of self-made billionaires and emotionally traumatized women trying to prove they are worth more than their tag size. If that was all, great, whatever, this isn’t meant to be award-winning literature or timeless romance. It’s a smut burp meant to entertain on the 3 hour flight you’re enduring. But it’s just not good…
The red flags are normally excused but for some reason I couldn’t get over the hypocrisy of the MMC… Derek. He harks on and on about narcissistic behaviors in his family, his ex-fiancée, and the FMC’s parents, but he then exhibits each of those checkpoints to show how his apple didn’t fall far from the tree. No, indeed it’s still on the branch and thriving off the mothership. Just not good…
The writing is juvenile, the smut is C-grade, and the attempts by the author to engage the reader in the stories of the whole host of other characters (all white and rich, btw) so she can produce more short novels and sell them for full price, is so exhaustive. This is what a book would “look” like if you could classify books as thirsty. Not good…

I love anything either of these authors writes, but when they write together, it can be special. Getting more of the Dare world in this new crossover series makes it even better.
Derek and Jessica are not supposed to be together; just ask his ex. But Jessica wins him at a charity auction, a little revenge, and a little payback. A fun fast read, banter, feels, and chemistry galore. I am ready to see where this duo takes us next.

Excellent read by these authors! First book of theirs that I have read! It was very exciting seeing the two character development. Jessica and Derek are easy to fall in love with from the start of the novel and the chemistry between the two leaps off the pages from the start!

When Derek is up for auction Jessica bids on him to save him from his ex-fiance who also happens to be Jessica's former/ current rival. The time that Derek owes Jessica is spent in many ways but through that time their relationship starts to change. I was rooting for them to make it work the whole time- you'll have to read to find out what happens!.

This was another amazing story written by this dynamic duo of authors. Derek Bettencourt was introduced in his sister's story as part of Carly Phillip's world and I was intrigued by him from the beginning. I don't recall if Jessica was from Erika Wilde's world, but she was Derek's perfect match. I loved the body positivity that occurs in this book and how protective Derek is of Jessica and his sister. The way Derek handles Jessica's brother Ben (who is his friend and business partner) was perfect. I now want Ben's story so I hope this duo will eventually give us that. I absolutely recommend this book and basically anything written by either of these authors.

This book was super cute! This is a brothers-best friend book that follows Derek and Jessica, who spend a weekend together after a bachelor auction. They both are infatuated with each other their romance might have some costs. With a crazy ex, protective brother, and a business, their relationship might rock many boats. This book was short and sweet and both Jessica and Derek were super sweet and caring. They were both always there for each other, making sure that they don’t fall alone! I loved the plus size representation in this book as well as the topic of overbearing parents and the effects that they have! This book was good!

Just a Little Hookup has one of the simplest plot lines in romance books, BUT the characters and love story made me fall in love immediately! I enjoyed A LOT Derek & Jessica's story and I couldn't put the book down until I finished it, plus I loved that Carly Phillips & Erika Wilde speak to me to me with the Jessica's character, her personal history and that we have another book in this series on the way.
Jessica is a fabulous character! A successful & strong woman, with a diverse body, who knows what she wants and who is not willing to allow anyone to pass her by, and although her life has not always been easy, and the authors show that in the past she suffered because of her weight, currently she is a woman who loves herself, accepts herself as she is and MOST IMPORTANTLY: she knows she is beautiful and worth a lot for who she is. Plus, she has always been in love with Derek, the best friend of her older brother and who has always seen her as a sister, until not.
I fell in love with Derek since I first read him in Just One Taste because his relationship with Nikki, his younger sister, helped me see how cute, tender, loving and protective he can be, and I loved that in their plot the authors made Derek see Jessica before the auction. I also love that Derek always knows what he wants from his relationship with Jessica, he's unconditionally supportive and also understands when she needs space and that she can make her own decisions.
Finally, the love story is one of the sweetest, most sensual and beautiful I have ever read, I LOVED that the authors will show us the growing sexual tension between them, the attraction that is there from the beginning and since even though Derek refuses to give in to his feelings, it's always pretty obvious what he wants from Jessica. Also, I really liked that Jessica know what she want from Derek, trust him and be clear with what she feel & want.

Derek owns Blackout Media with Ben, the firm they started together in business school and is a major contender in the industry.
He's not looking forward to the auction when he sees his ex bidding but was happy that Jessica won the bid which is a weekend with Derek.
The weekend is fun as he's acting as her personal handyman but takes a turn when they have a steamy night together. Now that the weekend is over they should go their own way but he just can't get her out of his head and wants more and Jessica feels the same way.
Shouldn't be a problem until threats are made against Jessica and her business. Will this be the end of them?

Now this is why I love to read this duo. All of their stories are filled with feel good vibes and it's impossible not to fall hard for her MC.

I do love a billionaire romance. Throw in my favourite "brother's best friend" trope and I'm a happy camper. When Jessica wins Derek in an auction to save him from his conniving ex, she's just looking for a little payback and maybe to get some work done around the house. But Jessica is all grown up and the attraction between the two of them eventually reaches a boiling point...and it only gets better from there.
I loved that we got to see some characters we hadn't seen in a while and be introduced to some new ones and I loved that Phillips and Wilde built in some much needed revenge without going overboard. I truly enjoyed this spicy addition to this universe. One last note below, but it's a bit of a spoiler so I'm hiding it.

I will say I was concerned that the mention of PCOS was going to lead to a miraculous baby and I'm very glad that didn't happen.

If your looking for a super fun read, with flirting and the perfect couple, you’ve found the book. I absolutely loved these two characters. Jessica is a strong woman, who stands up for herself. Derek is an alpha male, who wants to protect, but has to curb it to let Jessica fight her battles. I enjoyed the fun of the auction and their initial weekend. All of which led to so much more.
