This was worse than the first one.
Jade (card counter) ends up in the private room of a casino and witnesses Constantine (head of mafia family) killing a man. She identifies Con as the killer and he’s arrested and put on trial. She’s only 18 at the time and Con has a hardon for her. He’s of course released due to a mistrial because – duh – mafia. Eight years later, he gets news that the new DA wants to retry the case. Con has to find Jade and keep her from testifying. His dad is also pressuring him to marry and reproduce. He thinks he’s incapable of love and he’ll never find a woman that’s willing to tolerate his depravity in the bedroom (that’s a lie). He decides the perfect solution is to find Jade and marry her then knock her up. Eventually, HEA.
First, this nonsense is way too long. 439 pages?? It’s 439 pages of NOTHING. I was bored out of my mind after chapter 5.
Jade is annoying as hell and you basically get an entire book of her telling Con she hates him and he’s a murderer and she’ll never trust him. I can only tolerate so much of that before I lose my temper. Plus, there’s this added mystery of who Jade’s father is. It was sooooo lame. Con also allows his friend to threaten and manhandle Jade. I wouldn’t think a mafia man would allow that. At least in all the other mafia books I’ve read, none of the men have allowed it.
Then Con describes himself as: “my sexual appetites were considered far too extreme for most women, even those who frequented some of the most intense BDSM clubs.” The most he does is swat her butt while having pounding sex. I think he ties her hands one time. Big freaking deal. How is this too extreme for most women?? People in a nursing home probably have rougher sex than that.
In the end – I thought it sucked. I debated giving it 2 stars for the sex and fact that there aren’t any condoms. But I ended up with 1 star.

This is another gut-wrenching mafia-themed romance by Ms. Stone. You can almost guarantee that the villain will be wealthy, sexy, deadly, sadistic, powerful, and out for revenge. The heroine was innocent and feisty, with no choice but to accept a deal from the devil.
Constantine Thorn waited eight years to catch up with the woman who was a witness to a deadly crime he committed. Now he has her in his web, he will make her pay only his need for revenge started to change directions. She was forbidden fruit ripe for the picking. His obsession, a victim of his lust, but he redeemed himself in my eyes when his love for Jade took over his need to punish her. He was a puzzle. He was such a complex man, and what we learn about his past paints a picture of a of a damaged soul. No wonder he was so
he was so ruthless.
I loved the strong, sassy, feisty heroine Jade she was. Her hidden strength shone through. She may have been trapped at Constantine's mercy, but she gave him a run for his money. She just wanted the chance of a normal life, but he was the fuel of her nightmares. Despite her reluctance, her body started to crave his dominance. How could she feel so out of control yet so safe?
I enjoyed this deep dive with its twists and turns. Trying to work out the missing pieces of the a puzzle was challenging. This was a a raw, suspenseful seductive story rich in complexity, danger, love, and everything in between.

It's a standalone full-length romance with no cheating or cliffhanger complete with a oh so satisfying happily-ever-after. A raw, thrilling, twisted, savage, and sinful romance. Constanstine locate Jade but she's having some trouble with a loan shark name fast Eddie. She inherited the debt of her mom from fast Eddie after the death of her mom. Jade is desperate so she went to the casino to try and win the fifty thousand dollars. She had no idea that she was sitting next to the man who she testify against nine years prior. She was attracted to him their was a sexual tension when they look at each other. Jade was cheating and counting cards and Constantine allowed her to win, then he whispered in her ear "I learned in my life that you can't always win in love or war." Whose were the same words that he whispered in her ear after he was acquitted and instantly she recognize who he was with fear.
Jade always craved and hungry for the darkness and Constantine pull and feed that darkness in her. Constantine have some dark proclivities and Jade loves it. Their chemistry sizzles and sexplosive. It started out as revenge but he became obsessed with her and with unknown players after he's very protective. They started with a negotiation of her giving him a heir and ten million dollars and they both fell in love. King of Cruelty is a pulse-pounding one sitting read with off the charts steamy steamy scenes. Sinfully sexy and darkly beautiful, Kings of Cruelty will play games with your mind, heart, soul and leaving craving for more far after the story ended. "Wow this series just gets better and better!!!"

Scorching Hot, Brilliantly Beautiful Listen!

Little did he know, the game wasn’t at all what it seemed, and the stakes were higher than he’d ever imagined! “King of Cruelty”, is a scorching hot, fast moving, romantic suspense mystery thriller with more meaty depth that the butcher’s counter at Costco! The plot, darkly complex yet throughly and enthrallingly explained, flows smoothly, beautifully navigating more twists than Chubby Checker on steroids! I was perched on the edge, breath held, more than a few times, waiting tensely for relief and resolution! However, it needs to be said, that this story was so beautifully, so perfectly written, that there was no place I would rather have been! The amount of time I was left on that ledge before answers came was PERFECT! Long enough that I felt it, but not so long that it ruined the flow, or the experience! The characters, holy heck, THESE characters, they just get better with each story! I LOVE the snarky, sassy, strong, take charge Jade! No shrinking violet here! Constantine is just oozing with swoon worthy, alpha hero goodness, and he’s so badly in need of redemption! No spoilers! I’ll not be the one to ruin anything for future listeners, just know that with this story, the character development is off the charts fabulous, and ALL the characters grow and change appropriately WITH the story, resulting in a reveal that is not only fantastic, but brilliant and beautifully SATISFYING! The heat level is perfection! Hot, naughty, forbidden - I need a cold shower or THREE, perfectly complimenting both the lead characters personalities, AND this story! The last piece of a beautifully perfect puzzle was the narration. Every chapter, dynamic and delicious! A seamless performance of emotionally appropriate beautiful perfection, that kept this listener firmly in the moment, throughly engaged from the first words to the last, where THIS listener sat with tears streaming down her face, trying to recover from this thrilling, beautifully emotional, five star story!

A riveting read that will simply captivate you, you will read in one sitting a wonderfully entertaining read
She has been lying about her age so that she could get a job working in the resort and she had never expected that this would ruin her life, she has been running for years knowing that Constantine Thorn is a cruel predator that kills without a second thought.
Nine years Jade had been hiding away from the man she saw shoot a man through the head and she had fled for her life, unfortunately she had been brough in to testify against him and when he had been acquitted her life had been toast and she been running since.
Then had been at a casino trying to win enough funds to pay off her mother debt, she was being pressurised by a debt collector and he was starting to get nasty. Who would have believed the man she won all the funds off was her nemesis and there would be no escape this time Constantine Thorn was going to keep her and use her until his goal had been achieved.
Never would Jade have expected that she would actually enjoy some of Constantine’s proclivities, he was sexually very dark and like to play hard but she knew inside that he would not do her any lasting damage, nothing more than being unable to sit comfortably as long as she stuck to the rules.
Then Constantine negotiates with Jade asking if she will marry him and give him a child and stay with hi and the child for as long as she wished and for this she would be paid a hefty amount, however she had a plan that did not include her falling pregnant or staying for any time with her jailer.
I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read.

Absolutely Brilliant !! I LOVED listening to this audiobook. King of Cruelty is an action packed,dark romantic suspense from Piper Stone...and I honestly don't know how Piper does it but it seems her stories get better and better. Constantine Thorn is a ruthless man he kidnaps Jade for revenge as she witnessed a crime many years ago when she was only a teenager.A crime he had committed. She was to testify against him but disappears and now is on the run from him,but she can't hide from a predator. Constantine finds her and offers her a lifeline he would protect her but she as to be his wife and have his child. Even though Jade agrees to these terms she fights Constantine all the way and pushes his buttons. There is no doubt that even though Jade wants to hate Constantine there is an undeniable attraction to the brute of a man. the way he controls her pleasure is something that Jade becomes addicted too. But there is more to this story than meets the eye,because the event 9 years ago has a ripple effect...and it seems that someone had made sure Jade witnessed that crime,,whether it was to bring them together or destroy constantine and his family...they will have to find out. Fate has a strange way of putting the person you least expect in your life and turn it upside down. I LOVED this story it captivated me right from the start. Yet again Thomas Lockclear and Ri Paige are just outstanding !!. They never fail to impress me with their talent. I immensely enjoyed their narration and having them tell this story to me was the best desicion,I don't think it would have had the same effect that it did,if I would have read it myself. I totally recommend this audiobook you will be so addicted from the start. This is book 2 in this series and I am already eager to listen to book 3...Piper Stone's words are the best. Magnificent. Loved it 5 Stars.

The brotherhood returns this time it’s Constantine’s turn as the MMC Mafia boss and Jade MFC the supposed prosecutors trump card against Constantine.
Constantine’s and Jade’s relationship is as fragile and fraught with conflict as it is delicious leading to their HEA.
Ryan (Jade’s father) is an intriguing character once high ranking DEA agent turned rogue assassin.
I found one of the most interesting slants in the book is of Constantine’s moral compass however complexed and baffling to those outside his life and that of the brotherhood. The belief of right and wrong, black, white and grey.
When drawing an absolute line in any given circumstance its action can lead innocents to harm. The level of corruption in political and legal circles behaving in ways that suit themselves irrespective of their demand that the rest of society obeys their dictates.
Ryan sees the consequences and the contradiction of this corruption and its ramifications and decides to ‘go it alone’ as an assassin, this interplay between him and Constantine lead both individuals in their protective stance and love of Jade all be it from very different angles.
Jade’s dilemma start with the naivety of youth wanting to please her father to having to find the strength and conviction as an adults staying true to her beliefs and principles whilst protecting herself at the same time eventually learning the true nature of the person she witnessed being murdered and the role the prosecution coerced her into playing.
I love Pipers work and will continue reading her books as released.

Jade’s dilemma start with the naivety of youth wanting to please her father to having to find the strength and conviction as an adults staying true to her beliefs and principles whilst protecting herself at the same time eventually learning the true nature of the person she witnessed being murdered and the role the prosecution coerced her into playing.

“King of Cruelty” is the second book in the ‘Kings of Corruption’ series by Piper Stone. It’s an enemies-to-lovers, dark Mafia romance with some twists and turns that will keep you engaged with the story.
Jade is a woman with a complicated past, pushed to desperate measures after “inheriting” the loan shark debt incurred by her recently deceased mother. It caps nearly a decade of trying to cope with painful turns their lives had taken. Constantine is the Don of the Thorne Mafia. He’s brutal, sadistic, and has Jade in his sights. I don’t want to reveal much about the story because I don’t want to ruin it for you. Some of what takes place in the book are things you might expect, but others are surprising. Both Constantine and Jade are characters with unexpected sides to their personalities, which keeps things interesting. They have a tough road to travel in pursuit of a happily ever after ending.
This story has loyalty and betrayal, good guys, bad guys, and worse guys, beacons of hope, and moments of violence balanced by moments of humanity. A good amount of secondary characters and dimension to the story. There is also a lot of steam! Pay attention to the trigger warnings that are thoughtfully given. Both Constantine and Jade are characters with unexpected sides to their personalities, which keeps things interesting. As Piper Stone works her way through the Brotherhood of Kings, it’ll be interesting to see whose story will be told next.

Constantine Thorn is part of the Brotherhood. Maintaining the order of his domain. When a young woman witnesses a hit, Constantine isn’t about to let her get away. Eight years ago, Jade Rollins witnessed a man being killed. She did the right thing and told the police. When Constantine walked away a free man, she knew she had to keep low. But a debt her mother created puts her in a bind. She has to use her skills at the casino to pay the debt. Unfortunately, her days are numbered and Constantine isn’t about to go to prison or even let her get away.
I love that we get to read about the others in the Brotherhood. I have my concerns over his attorney Barrett and one of the guards Tristan. Something about him doesn’t add up. And I love that Jade is a fighter. Boy, she sure can move. She fought like a wild cat when Constantine found her. Jades’ past is a big issue. 'King of Cruelty' is the second book in Piper Stone's "Kings of Corruption" series and believe me, she delivers this storyline with aplomb. Briefly? At sixteen, Jade witnessed a murder and then testified against Constantine. As fate would have it, he was acquitted and Jade has been in hiding for the last eight years. On the other side of that coin, Constantine is being pressured and badgered by his father about taking a wife and producing an heir. Constantine really wants no part of it but he does want revenge against the little songbird that testified against him. Circumstances are twisted when Jade is in financial trouble. A debt collector is becoming more aggressive by the minute over her mother's medical bills. When she tries winning enough money at the casino to pay them off, she had no idea she was winning money from the man she had previously testified against. Yup. If you've read any of Piper Stone's previous works then you can almost guarantee that the anti-hero will be wealthy, sexy, deadly, sadistic, powerful, and out for revenge. The heroine was innocent and feisty, with no choice but to accept a deal from the devil. And if you're like me, you'd have it no other way.

Wow, I was absolutely captivated by this book, I was mesmerised reading this story and the characters were really amazingly grand. I am still trying to catch my breath, the characters Constantine known as King of cruelty, he still has been looking for the witness to a job he had done many years ago, and now he has finally found the person but would they remember him. Jade has really grown up now, she lied about her age to be in a Casino, when she was spotted she was playing at the tables counting cards. When Jade finally remembers who he is, she didn't know what to do, she was cornered and taken to his home. The chemistry between them was hot, dark, rough, intense sexual scenes with plenty spankings to keep her in line and enjoyment aswell. Now he wants to keep her safe, someone is after her. But what will happen if a retrial is opened up on the case she was a witness to, will she tell the truth or the lie or will something happened to change it all.

After nine years, once again the new DA tried to bring back the charges that Constantine was acquitted. Jade and her mom had moved from Kansas City to Miami. Jade took care of her mother after college by working in the Casino. When Constantine found Jade she was in disguise at the casino trying to win money to pay off the debt to a loan shark. Constantine kidnapped her and their love journey had begun. Her dad was a key player in a lot of things that was happened to Constantine and the Brotherhood. The puzzle was trying to figure out who was trying to kidnap Jade and why and it all led to her father whom she hadn’t seen since she was a litter girl. Beautiful love story with twist, turn, deception and murder with happily ever after. Highly recommend reading the Kings of Corruption Series, you will not be disappointed.

Wrong place, right time or right place, wrong time? Could be a little of both depending on how you look at it. Jade is just 17 years old when she witnesses something she should not have seen. When she testifies against Constantine Thorn, her life is about to change. Constantine is taken by the young Jade and cannot get the feisty, sassy young woman off his mind. She disappears for 8 years only to be found by Constantine. The prosecutor is looking to retry Constantine for the murder, and he will find a way to make sure the young Jade does not testify!
A few twists, deception, betrayal, passion, realizations, and truths come out in this story! I loved trying to put all the pieces together and it was a challenge! I feel like this could have been a good story. I listened to the audiobook, and this book seemed to drag on forever. The last 2 or 3 chapters were the best part of the book.
I thought the female narrator was a bit OTT and dramatic. She had a nice clear voice, so It may have been the dialogue. Idk. The male narrator had a nice deep voice, kind of growly.
My issue was how many times they each had to repeat the same words or phrases. If I heard Constantine demand Jade's obedience, or tell her she had to obey his commands, I was going to toss my phone across the room.
The same goes for Jade being referred to as "formidable". Also having to listen to Jade refer to Constantine as a "monster", or being " horrible".
There was entirely too much repetition that completely took away from the story. Sad to say that I was really glad when this book ended. I have read this author before and I was really expecting more of a story. This was almost a DNF for me.

Again, Piper has sucked me into her world of these morally grey men who turn out to be amazing characters (shhh…don’t tell them). The first book in this series is so good you won’t want to miss it but this one reads as a standalone. Constantine, a super fabulous name, thinks he is all big and bad and I love that about him. He can be brought to his knees, which I also love about him. Feisty women in stories is such a pull for me and we get that in Jade. She takes no prisoners and stands her ground. From their contentious beginning to the absolute great ending, Constantine and Jade will hold you enthralled in their story. Action, suspense and a bit of sexy times really melds well into an amazing story. Okay, girl, stop gushing so much. Cannot wait for the remainder of the Brotherhood’s stories.

I was immediately pulled in to Jade and Constantine’s abrupt start in this story. Then, years later I feel for a disguised Jade who has to win big by counting cards as she has an unpaid debt from her mother’s passing. But who should join her at the poker table, but a much older Constantine who threatened her at his trial that one day they would meet again. Fast forward after the game, and Jade believes she made it home safe, until she senses Constantine’s presence. Constantine plans to make Jade his by marrying her to appease his father, but what happens is so much more. Add in plot twists with Jade’s father that keeps you guessing through the story that will have you turning the pages! I love how Piper keeps you guessing as Constantine and Jade work through their feelings!

The only real softness to him is his refusal to just eliminate a woman, even one who witnessed him killing someone. Don’t make the mistake of thinking this is a weakness. He has no problem punishing her, which he does, repeatedly. Jade is an interesting heroine. Smart, self-sufficient and strong as well as beautiful, she’s actually the perfect woman for Constantine. In many ways I doubt any other could meet him needs without breaking. And she definitely brings out real emotions in him, even if that was never the plan. There are a lot of potential triggers here, including questionable consent, with a lot of room for grey. Don’t read this if stuff like that isn’t your cup of tea.

Jade ends up seeing Constantine Thorn murder a man 9 years ago. She's been running since. Jade ended up testifying against Constantine but he was acquitted and she been running ever since. Jade is trying to get some funds to pay off her mother's debt but instead gets pulled into Constantine's web. He persuades her to marry him, provide him with a child and he will protect her and pay her mother's debts. I loved the chemistry between Jade and Constantine as they are so hot together. The story is suspenseful, dangerous, a damaged soul, and they both have hurts the are so heartbreaking and sad. I am so glad I read this story and I can't wait for the next story to come out.

Jade first set eyes on Constitine when she was barely 16 and, oh yes, she happened to be present when he blew a man's brains all over her dress and face. She was a reluctant witness who was coerced into testifying against him and then after the trial ends in a mistrial, she disappears. Well, she meets him again many years later and he decides that he will do whatever he needs to prevent her from testifying if a new trial is slated. What makes this story a page turner are the things that happen to these two, their steamy connection and the lengths Piper Stone goes to give them their HEA. So far, this Series has been epic, and I can't wait to get my hands on the next stories.

I thought I loved the first book in this series but I think this one tops that one I couldn’t get enough of it! Between the mysteries about her father among other things that needed answers the main characters had me laughing and at the edge of my seat. You could feel the chemistry and steamy coming off the pages I love how sassy strong willed the main girl character is and she is not afraid to go head to head with the hot determine mafia guy! I’m so happy with how everything went I want more it’s a keeper in my opinion can’t get enough of piper to die for books can’t wait for the next steamy enemies to lovers in this series! They are so entertaining and very easy to get lost in bring on the heat 😂.

Jade have expected that she would actually enjoy, the dark sexually acts that Constantine, wants from her. The discipline he dishes out if she breaks the rules , stops her being able to sit down.

Constantine’s father had three wishes that he ran the family, find a wife and provide an heir. The story starts with the murder that had been witnessed, really a setup as to how the witness was on their floor, it went to trail and Constantine get off as it was declared a mistrial, that was eight years before amid he hadn’t forgotten Jade the witness, he was reminded again when a lead detective wanted to reopen the case. Piper Stone has written another fantastic book.

Oh yes Piper Stone. This hit the spot! Enter a brutal and sadistic Mafia head - Constantine - and a beautiful, innocent young woman - Jade -quite simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Add blackmail - marry our dark hero and produce an heir or be thrown to the wolves- and this well written, page turner really takes off.
The steam is dark. Constantine Thorn has certain 'needs' that don't include roses and sweet nothings, but wow! I'm not complaining!!!
Thoroughly enjoyed this pacy, multi layered read. I wasn't familiar with Piper Stone before this and I am to remedy that.

I enjoyed the combative attitude Jade had towards Constantine. She was difficult to handle but sassy and witty. Her back talking was amusing. Constantine surprised me with the depth of his character. The story took time to really look at what made him the way he became and why. The action was intense and I liked that there was mysterious opponent the brotherhood was facing. Also I liked that characters from the previous book were featured in this book. Overall I really enjoyed it and I do recommend it.

Good romance with dark atmosphere. Jade is a young waitress when she happens to open a door and sees a murder. She manages to get away and goes to the police. She agrees to testify against Constantine, a mafia boss. He is freed and Jade goes into hiding. Nine years later he finds and captures her. He demands her to marry him and bear him an heir! He is a cruel lover and there are some dark scenes. The love between them, however, makes for a great romantic story. I loved the characters, especially Jade. She is brave, if a little foolhardy, and feisty, giving Constantine all he can handle! Great story in a wonderful series.

I enjoyed listening to the audiobook, this is an action-packed dark romantic suspense where ruthless Constantine Thorn kidnaps Jade for revenge. She witnessed a crime he committed but disappeared. When he finds her, he offers protection, with the condition of marriage and having his child. Jade resists him, and hidden motives come to light. The narration by Thomas Lockclear and Ri Paige is outstanding and adds an extra layer of immersion to the story. I highly recommend this addictive audiobook, and I'm eagerly awaiting the next installment in the series. Piper Stone's storytelling is truly exceptional.
