Dennis and Barbara Rainey, founders of FamilyLife, help couples establish the important daily habit of praying together, offering personal stories and answering questions about the dynamics of prayer. Daily entries -- including a short devotion, questions for reflection, and a prayer -- take husband and wife through topics related to prayer, spiritual growth, and key marital issues.
“Sweetheart, let’s pray.”
In the press of daily living, preserving a private moment to pray with and for your life-partner can be tough. Yet joining hearts before God is the single most transforming, intimate experience in marriage—a simple act that will fill your life, your relationship, and your home with wondrous love.
A time to listen, a time to touch, a time to connect with what matters…
Dennis and Barbara Rainey tell how a decision to pray together daily strengthened their understanding of one another, reduced conflict, and knit their hearts together in a deep, spiritual bond. Their thirty days of reflections can do the same for your relationship— starting today!

Michael and I just finished reading the book Two Hearts Praying As One together. This book was a 30 day devotional to help couples learn the importance and “how to’s” of praying together and get into the habit of daily joint prayer time. I’ve shared several times about prayer and prayer in marriage and the importance of both.
Nothing that I’ve learned about prayer is as amazing as what I read on the "When Couples Pray" amazon page:
Statistics show that when couples pray together divorce rates plummet to less than 1 percent.
This truly shows the power in prayer!!! Michael and I have gone through spurts of praying together and then not praying together. It has been so nice while reading this book to be consistently praying together and we plan on keeping it up! Praying is such a wonderful intimate tool to take advantage of in your marriage!
Praying is something that will bind you and your spouse so tightly together and to God that it will be very hard to separate you!!! It is that powerful!
Okay, back to the book. Each day has a topic with a devotional reading, then a reflection that offers questions that should create discussion, and then each day also comes with prayer points for those needing a extra push.
Here are some example topics: Praying Through Conflict, Prayer and Romance, Praying for Your Children, and Walking with Christ.
This is a great book for couples new to praying together and not really knowing how to start, or seasoned couples who have lost the habit of praying together and want to gain it back!
This is a really helpful tool in making you form a habit out of praying together, I really recommend it as a reference book even after you've read it together, whenever you don't know what to pray or you don't feel like doing it. It really has helped us by drawing us together and making us spend more time together.
Dennis and Barbara Rainey’s powerful work with marriages begins with their own. They’ve prayed together daily for many years. Prayer is drawing strength from Almighty God. Every marriage needs this strength, which is why every couple will benefit from this book. I wholeheartedly recommend it.
