Pg. 49 "Even when a situation seems so personal, even if others insult you directly, it has nothing to do with you. What they say, what they do, and the opinions they give are according to the agreements they have in their own minds."
A gift that must be shared. So simple yet so hard. I was able to realize that I hold the key to my happiness and no one can take it away without my permission.
though i've read this before, am reading again. it's cool to see where i was when i first read it as opposed to know. i've grown a lot since then. the agreements are totally practical, and i'm glad to review them for reinforcement.
This book should be read every year, say, on one's birthday - or, if your birthday falls on a major holiday, every half-birthday!
the wording of this is a bit odd, in my opinion. overall, it has a good message! i would recommend maybe listening to a summary of the book to anyone interested, so you get the main points without all the fluff (it’s about gaining personal freedom to anyone interested)
According to the author, The Four Agreements were created to offer the possibility of ending emotional pain and opening the possibility of enjoying a fuller and more rewarding life. Although there are some interesting points made, the author presents his thesis in a rather simplistic and Pollyanna manner. The problem is that these principles cannot be taken at face value but can only be used as general guidelines in our lives. I believe that there are valid exceptions to each of these four agreements that several other reviewers have adeptly outlined. In my view, this is not a book that offers any great insights
I got inspired by reading this book. It is so well written in simplest of words. We only need to follow these 4 things to make are lives simpler. They are written so well and easy to follow with minimal effort. I got a hope and positivity within me after reading this book.
This book has great concepts but they are presented imprecisely and in some cases with contradiction. Just read the inside cover and put it back on the shelf.
This is one book that every family needs to add to their library collection..it is filled with valuable Toltec wisdom that can be applied to everyday life and has the ability to make a person grow spiritually..
🌼 The Four Agreements 🌼 This is your solution to every problem, therapy to your every life issue and constant companion in this chaotic world. You see motivational quotes, videos and stories being shared everywhere on every platform but there are only so many stories that you can relate to. The four agreements that the wonderful author Don Miguel Ruiz with Janet Mills ask you to make with yourself deal with the roots of all the problem that a person can have in a life time. For high- schoolers and seniors, there is a period of self-doubt, envy, abuse , jealousy and the need for validation from their peers. Working people have a constant hate for their job and are unhappy with their life. This again leads to self doubt. Couples have misunderstanding in relationships, the reason is always common; lack of communication and assumptions. This makes them doubt their choices. People stay in the wrong company and claim they are different but they don't understand the power of a single word whispered, it crawls into their minds and makes a comfy home by decomposing your reasoning , in turn making your world a living hell. Till the time a person starts to contemplate these problem, reach to their roots and take steps to eradicate them, it becomes a matter of the past. And yet they are not able to identify and fight them when they are face-to-face with same situations. The author focuses on the main subject and does not bore us with his infinite musings. Everything said and advised hits home at some point, which is not a surprise since every person is as much a puppet in this play as the other, sharing the same problems. Reading this book everyday like a mantra will benefit every aspect of your life. It improves your life and guides it toward a happier path where not everything said matters and a person knows who he or she is. To sum up : This book is a mentor . Time invested in it is time spend in healing yourself. The agreement you make here gives you the wealth of happiness and confidence. 🦋
A fascinating life story of unlearning and finding your truth

Authentic Self: The Divine inside of you; the force that gives life to your mind and your body.
The Four Agreements
Be impeccable with your word. Don't take anything personally. Don't make assumptions. Always do your best.
when you let go of all those things you think you know about yourself, of all your images, you find freedom.
Every day, every moment, you change your perception of the world, and it changes constantly as you change.
Recognize that you are perfect just the way you are, and really believe that you are perfect just the way you are.
we are the artists of our lives. We are all dream masters.
The definition of freedom is to be yourself, whatever you are, even if you have no idea what you are. Freedom is to be authentic. No one else can give you your freedom.
When you try to control others, or make them act or believe the way you want them to, you are not respecting them.
When you stop trying to push your beliefs and ideas on others, only then are you truly respecting them.
You are letting them know that they are good enough, intelligent enough, and strong enough to make their own choices in life.
Love always comes from you, and what makes you happy isn't someone loving you, it is the love coming out of you that makes you happy.
Don't carry the weight of another's choice. You are only responsible for your own will.
This short little book has some good practical insights. I especially like the idea of watch what you say and try your best in anything you do. However, some of its philosophy is definitely not Christian. For example, the author says, "Religion talks about sin and sinners, but let's understand what it really means to sin. A sin is anything you do which goes against yourself." (pgs. 18-19) It's a little confusing then when the author says, "Personal importance, or taking things personally, is the maximum expression of selfishness because we make the assumption that everything is about 'me'". (pg. 31) So the author thinks it's selfish to make everything about yourself and yet he thinks that a sin is something which goes against yourself. What about how sin goes against God and others? A little contradictory to my way of thinking.
I recently read Wisdom from the Four Agreements and I appreciated how the book offers simple reminders on how to live with integrity, compassion, and mindfulness. The wisdom in its pages is timeless, and it's the kind of book you'd want to keep on hand for those moments when you need a quick dose of clarity or inspiration. It's certainly piqued my interest in picking up the full version of The Four Agreements to dive deeper into the ideas presented here.

This book was a slap in the face of common sense, but written so beautifully and easy to read it’s common sense that most people, like myself, need to be reminded of. It’s definitely a go to book whenever you need to be reminded how to be your true and authentic self. It’s a must read and also great to have in an audible version as now I can listen to it on my way to work! :)
Though a quick read with some generalization that may even cause you to furrow your brow, if you go with it until the end you will come out smiling. I did anyway.
Putting the agreements in practice, though requiring a lot of reminding, did make my day go by really well yesterday. I would reread this purely because the message is something I want to carry forward.
“if you have done your best and your inner Judge tries to just you according to to your Book of Laws, you’ve got the answer: ‘i did my best.’ there are no regrets. that is why you always do your best.”
“but it is not what i am saying that is hurting you; it is that you have wounds that i touch by what i have said.”
I didn't mesh well with this book. I am not sure if it is because the timing wasn't right for me, or what. I felt like I would get lost in what he was saying, and only understood parts here and there.
I honestly bought the summary version by accident, but I can't say enough good things about it. I've read it all the way through 4-5 times now and plan to read it many many more times. Timeless wisdom for a life well lived, everyone should read this atleast once, maybe thrice.
You wont find any revelatory insights inside you haven't heard before. What makes it worth reading is how it conveys its wisdom concisely, as to remind the reader that simple attitude changes can improve the only thing you have control over in life - yourself.
very simple to the point of being repetitive. all of the agreements are things i have figured out on my own but i appreciated hearing someone else’s perspective on how important they are. ALSO loved the smoke in mirrors and star analogy’s
I can't say whether or not this book will or will not change my life thus far. However, while reading this book I have had so many "aha" moments. This book has really made alot of my life make sense, when it comes to successes and trials and tribulations.
I read this as part of a course I’m taking. It’s a quick read and the 4 agreements are meant to help us reset our “programming” and take control of our lives back, allowing ourselves to live in a more free and authentic manner.
