Librarian Note: there is more than one author with this name in the Goodreads database.
Michael Phillips has been writing in the Christian marketplace for 30 years. All told, he has written, co-written, and edited some 110 books. Phillips and his wife live in the U.S., and make their second home in Scotland.
This book was slow to get moving and didn’t seem to get too exciting until almost three quarters of the way through it. Sometimes it was even predictable. Still, I’m looking forward to completing the series and will start book 4 later today.
Corrie Hollister has a dream to become a newspaper reporter in a world of only men being accepoted as such. The book is slow moving which makes the first half rather boring. It doesn't get exciting until that last few chapters when Corrie begins to see her dreaming coming true. Or does she?

Enjoyed the third book of "The Journals of Corrie Belle Hollister". I have to say it is refreshing to read a book without flagrant use of profanity. Corrie continues her growth into adulthood, and as a daughter of God. She learns a life of truth is so important.
I'm a huge fan of young Miss Hollisters. I have all of these books & think they should be on everyones book list that loves the old west & inspirational reading. A+ all the way!!!!!!!!!
This good book continues to follow Corrie Belle Hollister through life. In this book she learns being truthful in all she does and how to take care of herself as she becomes an adult.
I really loved this book. Corrie Bell Hollister's father has just gotten remarried, and that means Corrie now had a stepmother. Corrie also has the dream of being a journalist, despite the fact that in the 1800s, women weren't really employed.
I have to say that I admire Corrie for going after the dream job she wanted. Despite all the men of in the town she lives in are opposed to the idea of a female reporter, Corrie doesn't let that stop her from following what she believes to be the path God wants her to take.
Also, the storyline that had Corrie investigating election taking place in her hometown. I didn't like that Mr. Kemble gave Corrie such a hard time whenever she trying to write a story for the newspaper.
On the Trail of the Truth is every bit as good as the two books before it. I rated it three stars because at the end the authors (Phillips/Pella) “over played their hand.” Corrie Belle Hollister, the heroine, was 19 years old. At the conclusion, what Corrie did, a girl her age would not have been able to do. My thought was, “No way.” She had already done amazing things. This was too much. It went over the top. You will have to read the book. I won't spoil it by explaining. Otherwise, I recommend this book, as well as the series. It’s clean, wholesome, entertaining and spiritually edifying.
Corrie wants to be a journalist in the worst way, even though it was something that was considered a man's job. She was determined to be a writer and was willing to face dangerous obstacles to achieve her dream. There was a thing that she was unwilling to do, and that was to sacrifice the truth for earthly gain. Above all, she wanted to live and work as a woman of God.
Our library doesn't have vols. 1 & 2 in this series, so I almost skipped this one. I'm so glad I read it, and am looking forward to further stories of CB Hollister.
The story has a capable and brave young heroine, and lots of adventure ensues.
I grew up as a Christian with books like this as entertainment and guidance in one text. Corrie pursues a dream to write professionally and uncovers a much bigger story than she planned. Watch her faith and her profession get tested at the same time and see how both improve. Lesson learned: you grow when you are tested.
