Violet Fynne was haunted—haunted by memory. It had been nearly ten years since her father had moved the family from the tiny town of Rattler Rock to the city of Albany , New York . Yet the pain and guilt in Violet’s heart was as fresh and as haunting as ever it had been. It was true Violet had been only a child when her family moved. Still—though she had been unwillingly pulled away from Rattler Rock—pulled away from him she held most dear—her heart had never left—and her mind had never forgotten the promise she had made—a promise to a boy—to a boy she had loved—a boy she had vowed to return to. Yet, the world changes—and people move beyond pain and regret. Thus, when Violet Fynne retuned to Rattler Rock, it was to find that death had touched those she had known before—that the world had indeed changed—that unfamiliar faces now intruded on beloved memories. Had she returned too late? Had Violet Fynne lost her chance for peace—and happiness? Would she be forever haunted by the memory of the boy she had loved nearly ten years before?
Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Marcia Lynn McClure grew up influenced by the reminiscent stories of rugged, rural Colorado farm life fascinatingly recounted to her by her parents, grandparents, uncles and aunts…tales of runaway buckboards, mule-drawn plows and dust pneumonia; verbalized images of stream-flooded meadows, frozen over in winter, where a child could peer through the crystal clear ice in wonder at the small fish, snakes and mice sealed in the meadow grasses beneath; stories of hardship and tragedy, love and loss. But always the stories, and the people telling them, bore evidence of the wonder and worthiness of simpler, yet sometimes brutal, times.
These influential people and the family legends they detailed, coupled with her own life experiences and utterly romantic nature, led Marcia to begin writing novels as Christmas gifts for her closest friends…friends who long for a breath of the past and miss the romance of bygone eras; friends searching for moments of distraction from the stressful, demanding times we live in.
And so, knowing that it is the breath of the past and the "take me in you arms and kiss me" kind of moments that so many women long to relive, Marcia spins her tales of love, life and laughter…adventures woven around those compelling, romantic instances that most appeal to a woman's loving heart. Marcia feels that if her readers close one of her books with a contented sigh and a delighted smile, feeling rejuvenated, cheerful and edified, then she has achieved what she set out to do…shower refreshment and happiness on anyone having experienced the story.
Marcia lives in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. There she writes her stories surrounded by her beloved friends and family...and the beautiful desert landscape of New Mexico!
Every once in a while I get in the mood for a McClure book, which usually turns into me binging a bunch of her books. Sometimes, I'm just in the mood for a light, swoony romance and she knows how to deliver those!
I've read this one a few times and it remains one of my favorite McClure novels. A sweet story of second chances and sweet romance. Violet and Stoney grew up tougher, but when she was a young girl her family moved away. Violet never forgot her childhood friend or the promise she made to return to him. Ten years later she is now a school teacher and has accepted a position in her old childhood town. I loved that they had a shared history together and that that friendship returns after being apart for so long. They had great chemistry together! This would make a cute Hallmark movie.
Content Rated PG Romance: Kissing Language: Very mild Violence: Mild - talk of past abuse as a child (non descriptive)
And for fun, here is some casting we did a few years back for Swoon Fest (which was hosted by me, Katie from Hiding in the Pages and Kathy Jo from KJs Book Nook).
WOW,SOOOOO GOOD!!! Absolutely one of my favorites of Marcia's! From the title I pictured it to be strictly a sweet romance of lovers under a moon, lol, but it was so much more than that! It had all the angst, jealousy, mystery, angry brooding man, and passion that I love in a romance! It made my heart ache for the characters.
Wow this is classic Marcia Lynn McClure at its best. I loved this one! Currently available only as a 128 page ebook - it was well worth my money. Seems most of her ebooks eventually get expanded and printed and I'd pay money again to read this story if she lengthens it, although this one left me completely satisfied despite it's shorter length.
Another favorite of mine with the Marcia's books. I can't wait till this is in book form. A dear friend got the e-book and then printed it and that is the only way I was able to enjoy this book so far. It has the feel of "Anne of Green Gables." Childhood friendships turned to love and the promise of return when they are forced to part. After ten years, Violet keeps her promise to Stoney to come back to their childhood town to him. He only wanted her to promise to remember him...that she did along with the guilt of leaving him to deal with his abusive father alone. She returns a 21 year old single woman and the new school teacher. She learns about Stoney from the children and hears all the town rumors about his questionable character. When she finally meets up with him, he seems indifferent to her presence which unsettles her because he has the same drawing effect as before. After Stoney tiptoes around his feelings for her, the truth is revealed about his love for her along with the secret behind the "light of the Lovers' moon" the lights in the old Crisholm house due to the supposed ghosts of the man and woman who used to live there. Stoney and Violet have one more surprise from Buddy Crisholm, in a letter he tells Violet that he left her Sonora's stars' which turn out to be diamonds in the ceiling of the master bedroom that he shared with his wife. I loved this sweet innocent love story that started out so young and grew over time and distance.

Yes my pilgrimage continues with this newest addition to my local library! (I'm a college aged kid-I'll take free books anytime!) This one here goes out to my Marcia club...you know who you are! hahaha LOVED this one! The Queen of Clean Kissing at her best! As I have been reading (and who are we kidding re-reading AND re-reading) Marcia books I'm finding that her later writing is just becoming that much greater! I love the depth that she is putting into her characters! This book makes me want to call up my childhood chums and climb trees again and play night games and tell ghost stories! I have one specific thing that I absolutely loved about this book and it's how she tied romance into the night. It's not the moon-it's the lover's moon. And I loved the stars but if I go in depth into that I'd have to mark this as a spoiler and I don't wanna! :) But I'm okay with leaving a teaser and I'm okay with it because I get to quote a character I adored from this book! "I left the most beautiful part of the house to you 'cause it reminds me of you, all sparkling with life and love. I left the stars for you, Violet Fynne." -Buddy Chisholm
I really love this author and this was another cute story. I loved the two main characters. Their chemistry was great and their back story even cuter. My only real complaint was the fact that I felt like it ended to fast. I wished they would of had a few more conversations and we would of had a little more tention. I just felt like all of a sudden they were confessing there love, and all the mysteries of the book we being summed up im like five pages. It was to rushed. It's almost like the author was all of a sudden in a hurry to get he book done. I still loved it, I guess it just left me wanting a little.
This book has vaulted onto my elite Marcia Favorites List, and that's saying something because I LOVE with an unhealthy fervor Shackles of Honor and Crimson Frost.
I started reading The Light of the Lover's Moon at midnight as a little light reading before I fell asleep (what was I thinking--I've read enough Marcia to know better) and I ended up staying up until 4:00 a.m. savoring this tale. It's a short one so you probably don't even need four hours to read it, but I found myself reading passages again and again just so I could sigh and swoon all over again.
What can I say....the Queen of clean has done it again!!!! Thank you Marcia for ANOTHER favorite! I absolutely ADORED this book!! I've been saving it for about a year:) I have to read 50 books or so and then I treat myself to a Marcia Lyn...(NOBODY writes kissing like she does. NO ONE!!!!)...I'm savoring them. I own every book and I only have 4 left that I've never read:(....PLEASE PLEASE keep writing Marcia! Don't ever stop!!!! Quick, fun, clean read...with chemistry-a-plenty;)lol
I LOVE moons, so of course I had to buy this e-book, even though I prefer a book in my hand. Hopefully someday I will be able to have a book in my hand with that gorgeous cover, and equally delightful inside pages. :) I love my Marcia McClure, what can I say more? :)
I loved it! What a delightful story! Sweet, clean and, in my opinion, reminiscent of L.M Montgomery's "Anne of Green Gables".
Violet Fynne and Stoney Wrenn were close childhood friends who were separated when Violet's family moved away from the remote country town of Rattler Rock when she was just 11 years old. Violet promised her good friend Stoney (13 years old at the time) that she would come back to him. She did not know when or how, but she promised to return to Rattler Rock, fearing for Stoney's physical and mental well being at the hands of his abusive father.
At 21 years of age Violet succeeded in securing a place as a school teacher in her old hometown. Eager to meet up again with Stoney, she also feared his reaction after 10 years apart. Lucky for Violet , Stoney was still living in Rattler Rock, unattached, handsome and just as endearing as she remembered him. Cautiously, they rekindled their old friendship and realized they never stopped loving each other. The innocent love they shared as children was not lost over the years they were apart. If anything, that love intensified into a passionate love when they met up again as adults.
This was such a lovely book and worthy to be read more than once. Ms Marcia Lynn McClure, please keep those sweet romances coming.
12/6/23 This is the first one I ever read of Macia's books. It's still the most fun the most amazing and sweet book. I love the love story I love the sweetness it's just enjoyable to read. I love Sonora's stars.
9/8/22 It's still and always will be one of my top favorite Marcia Books. It was just as magical this time around as the first time I read it. Still brushes my skin with goose flesh and tickles my fancy. I love it! It's old west and I love it.
Other years This is where my love started. I happened to see it on the shelf at the library, I was keeping myself busy reading during a horrible pregnancy. I was hooked I didn't have to cover my eyes reading this book and was entransed by it. It was great a book writer that was clean and actually good, I WAS HOOKED!
Started with this one. It was on the new shelf at the library and caught my eye. Still one of my favorites!
This is the first book I ever read by Marcia Lynn McClure and fell instantly in love with not only Stoney and Violet but eh way Marcia writes. This time around is still just as blissful.
How can you not fall in love with Marcia's books? Another fantastically fun romance. Violet has been taken from her hometown and her best friend/first love. After 10 long years she returns to find the boy (now a man) that she just can't seem to forget. She is heartbroken to find that Stoney seems to have quite gotten over her! Stoney has been trying to put the past behind him. He was broken when Violet left him and never wants to set himself up for that kind of hurt again. A womanizer? Puhleeze! I love the fun and youthful friendship we get to see in the memories of Violet. The way their new relationship heats up (yowza!) and develops is touching, scorching, sweet and tons of fun. Romance, romance, romance! What a great first kiss. I loved the fun little romantic twist at the end. Classic Marcia at its best :)
Yes it was a novella and yes it was a Kindle freebie so it's kind of hard to believe but I really liked this story! I loved reading about a boy and a girl who were devoted to each other as children, separated only to be reunited as adults a decade later. This book had all the elements I love--emotion (I cried three times), fun, and plenty of sparks without being overly graphic or over the top. There were a few "cheesy" moments but it's romance people...
I Loved this book. I had to read it again after I finished it. Such a great story I love the story of the Light. I loved the surprise at the end brought tears to my eyes. Such a great book. Very easy read, great fun adventures and it is a story that just makes you feel good after you are done reading it.
HOLY COW!!! I loved this book and the sweet love story. It is how I think the world ashould be. . . maybe that's why I love Marcia Lyn McClure's books. There is the man who is a hard worker, with good morals and not feminine and the sweet girl who has a conscience and is kind to those around her. This book was a great read, the only disappointment was that the end came to soon!!!
Such a sweet and cute romance. Loved Stoney, of course...Violet was a great character too. McClure can do no wrong. Always wish they were longer...sigh.
Moral Note: Some passionate kisses, a handful of language (mostly heck, and son of a motherless goat, and cut off swear words) talk of illegitimate children, and some innuendos.
I liked this one. It was sweet 😊 As usual in Marcia’s books there are unanswered questions I still have and unlikely scenarios in the story, but, I just chalk it up to her writing now and just enjoy the great scenes she does include. I liked the candy scene in this book and I liked that Violet is so fun. The relationship she had with Stoney (whose name is not great, but that is typical for Marcia, too) was great. I liked it.
