Note: The decision was made to consolidate all Disney publications under the name Walt Disney Company. This profile is for Walt Disney, the characters he created, and the company he founded. Any questions, please ask in the Librarian's Group.

Walter Elias “Walt” Disney (December 5, 1901 – December 15, 1966) was an American film producer, director, screenwriter, voice actor, animator, entrepreneur, entertainer, international icon, and philanthropist. Disney is famous for his influence in the field of entertainment during the 20th century. As the co-founder (with his brother Roy O. Disney) of Walt Disney Productions, Disney became one of the best-known motion picture producers in the world. The corporation he co-founded, now known as The Walt Disney Company, today has annual revenues of approximately U.S. $35 billion.

Disney is particularly noted for being a film producer and a popular showman, as well as an innovator in animation and theme park design. He and his staff created some of the world's most famous fictional characters including Mickey Mouse, a character for which Disney himself was the original voice. He has been awarded four honorary Academy Awards and has won twenty-two competitive Academy Awards out of fifty-nine nominations, including a record four in one year, giving him more awards and nominations than any other individual. He also won seven Emmy Awards. He is the namesake for Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resort theme parks in the United States, as well as the international resorts Tokyo Disney, Disneyland Paris, and Disneyland Hong Kong.

Disney died of lung cancer in Burbank, California, on December 15, 1966. The following year, construction began on Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. His brother Roy Disney inaugurated the Magic Kingdom on October 1, 1971.

The Walt Disney Company (NYSE: DIS) (commonly referred to as Disney) is the largest media and entertainment conglomerate in the world in terms of revenue. Founded on October 16, 1923, by brothers Walt Disney and Roy Disney as the Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio, the company was reincorporated as Walt Disney Productions in 1929. Walt Disney Productions established itself as a leader in the American animation industry before diversifying into live-action film production, television, and travel. Taking on its current name in 1986, The Walt Disney Company expanded its existing operations and also started divisions focused upon theatre, radio, publishing, and online media. In addition, it has created new divisions of the company in order to market more mature content than it typically associates with its flagship family-oriented brands.

The company is best known for the products of its film studio, the Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group, today one of the largest and best-known studios in Hollywood. Disney also owns and operates the ABC broadcast television network; cable television networks such as Disney Channel, ESPN, and ABC Family; publishing, merchandising, and theatre divisions; and owns and licenses 11 theme parks around the world. On January 23, 2006, it was announced that Disney would purchase Pixar in an all-stock transaction worth $7.4 billion. The deal was finalized on May 5. On December 31, 2009, Disney Company acquired the Marvel Entertainment, Inc. for $4.24 billion. The company has been a component of the Dow Jones Industrial Average since May 6, 1991. An early and well-known cartoon creation of the company, Mickey Mouse, is the official mascot of The Walt Disney Company.

I have a disabled TV since almost 2 weeks, I guess that was since the boys (my sons) have finished their school ... Yes, we have only one TV in my 2 floors apartment (duplex) because I insisted on this setting since before I got married, although we had 2 TV sets in my family house and same went with my husband's family house ... I've always thought of a TV as a source of distraction... I never wanted to see me, daddy and the boys mesmerized infront of TV sets in different rooms of the house watching our different favorite shows, each alone! I dunno if my husband would ever try to convince me to buy a second TV later after we fix the one we have :-/

Few days earlier, when our TV was still working, I asked my sons why don't they read their books nor ask me to read along with them??!! The answer was because we find better things to do (not including playing with their toys), like what??! Watching cartoon channels or playing with my ipad! Oh! Miserable, indeed.

The TV went useless and they earned a punishment of not playing with my ipad for a week so they turned to their books and toys.

I guess they've grown for this book, and since they know the original stories, they no longer wanna read it with Donald, Minnie, Mickey, till the end of Disney Characters as the main characters of these known stories ... I asked them twice for their evaluation before I write this review and both answered we didn't like it ... And they didn't like the nursery rhymes part too and I can understand why, given all these CDs we've been handed by school and those I know my younger son has heard and watched over and over in his multimedia classes, and later, at home.

I might keep the book for a future baby of my own who would just admire drawings and colours or admire my voice while reading the book :) or I might just give it away for another family child. The book is as good as new anyways, the boys are as neat as their Mommy when it's about books :)

Nursery Rhymes & Fairy Tales (Hardcover) by Walt Disney Company

This book is appropriate for Kindergarten.

Nursery Rhymes & Fairy Tales by Walt Disney Company features nursery rhymes and fairy tales with a Disney twist. This collection includes both vintage and brand-new artwork. Large type and illustrations on every page make it a perfect choice for read alouds.

The book is a great for children! Children can relate to the nursery rhymes because of the illustrations provided, seeing as though they are Disney illustrations. For children who are struggling to read still, the relatable illustration can help them figure out what it may be about.

There are two possible in class situations where I would use this book. The first in class situation would be when I'm trying to have the kids understand how illustrations can help for you to understand what is being written. The second in class situation when trying to teach kids how to create a rhyme.

I get why they make such heavy books, but they are annoying for read alouds. That said, it’s a good collection.

I have a three month old son that I try to read to nightly. He's at the point where he's starting to stay awake for longer hours and although my little boy is still really tiny, he's learning how to fight sleep. Nursery rhymes and fairy tales are things that we typically grow up on. We have learned them as children and we had recited them in schools for rainy day fun. We heard them at our mother's knees and from those moments we created memories. It's because of those memories that I wanted to pass down the tradition of learning the nursery rhymes to my little boy. So nightly, as he is fighting sleep, I rock him back and forth while reading to him from this book.

Although there are many editions of nursery rhymes and fairy tales, I chose this edition for it's vibrant artwork depicting disney characters. The disney characters used are the ones that are popular today. I chose this book because I wanted my child to grow up connecting the figures he will see in the book with the characters he will one day see in disney movies he will watch when he grows older.

I read through this with my two-year-old daughter, story by story, night by night, over the course of a few weeks. She enjoyed it, and so did I--though there were times that the Disney character replacement made for a weird read. For example, my daughter is already familiar with the tale of Little Red Riding Hood, so reading about Little Red Riding Minnie was confusing to her. In the end, I ended up just reading it as Little Red Riding Hood and it was more easily accepted.

The first collection of stories/rhymes we read to Kaitlyn after she was born. Love the Disney twist with the characters being inserted into the fairy tales and the illustrations are darling.
