Maybe I'm a total slacker, but the greatest thing about owning a crockpot is the ability to throw everything in it, turn it on, and like magic later that evening dinner is ready. So the concept of cooking stuff up, then adding it to the pot, then stirring it several times over the next few hours, then letting the magic happen doesn't quite float my boat. I did pull out about 5 recipes that I'll try but for the most part I wasn't impressed.

I think the author missed the mark on this book. When I use my slow cooker, I really want recipes that I can put in the pot and then come back 4-6-8 hours later to a cooked meal and a single wash up. Not recipes that call for me to cook the meal and then put it in the pot for a little finishing -- with numerous skillets, pots and bowls to clean up. Not to mention significant prep time on top of the cook time. There are a few recipes that I tried. Most only came out so-so.

I agree with other reviewers, when I use my slow cooker I want to put it in and forget about it. I use my slow cooker when I don't have time; many of the recipes would require too much preparation for me.

This book gave you alternatives to the meats, and spices. It was a good book for a person who is 'not a cook'. Draw backs were that the recipes did require a lot of prep for some of the dishes vs. just plunking it into the crock pot and letting work it's magic.

The author has missed the point - I'm using a slow cooker so I only have one pot to clean. Which means I'm not going to brown everything in another pan first.

I love my slowcooker. I love putting food in in the morning and not worrying about it all day while the house fills with wonderful smells. When I experiment on my own, it all ends up as either BBQ or beefstew. After trying out at least half a dozen slowcooker cookbooks, this is by far the best one. Lots of variety and recipes of a number of international cuisines. Highly, highly recommended!

Good, consistent recipes plus some great tips in general on using slow cookers for those who like to improvise.

My only beef (har, har) would be the overall lack of healthy recipes in the book. I don't want every dish coming out of the slow cooker to automatically add a kilo just cause.

Some interesting slow-cooker recipes beyond the usual stews. Lots of ethnic influence.
