Patrick Roth is one my favorite contemporary German authors. I discovered him through the collection "Starlite Terrace" and its stories surrounding a Los Angeles apartment complex. I permanently moved to the US with all my (then) belongings in early 1996 and felt so seen: the LA sun shining mercilessly nonstop while strange characters gather around the courtyard pool in my Encino based complex (later Studio City, same thing). Roth moved to LA 20 years before me and reading his stories that Lynchian feel washed over me so hard. All pre "Mulholland Drive" and with no visuals, Roth was able to evoke precisely the constellation of dreams and reality in dialectic battle. Oh wait I am reviewing the wrong book hahahaha sorry BUT: "Christusnovelle" was his debut and I just read it now and bummer it is only available in German maybe he wants to translate it? It is just magnificent! Nails it! Especially so called "Christians" should read it but every fan of Jesus should too! 2 more in this trilogy and then I think I HAVE TO read the Bible (I had read it in parts at age 14 but 40 years later I am possibly more qualified or not to understand it).
