My dad read this to me at bedtime when I was a kid and now I am reading to my sons at their bedtime.

My great-grandfather wrote this book. He served in British intelligence during World War II, so I imagine more than a little of this story is based on his own direct experience. The book is about a teenage boy in Nazi-occupied France who discovers a "fire bowl" in his village, and unwittingly becomes involved in the underground resistance. Quick read with a lot of thrills, and a cool time capsule on a personal basis.

This book I bought from the Weekly Reader when I was in about the 4th grade. Fifty years later, I still have my copy.
